  • Patent number: 4214693
Abstract: The invention provides an improved wireline that comprises one or more insulated conductors contained within a smooth walled metal sheath; which improved wireline is satisfactory to perform all of the normal wireline operations in an earth borehole and particularly in very deep boreholes; and in which the sheath material of the wireline is a metal having a high yield strength to weight ratio, and the sheath is swaged into intimate contact with the inner insulated conductor or conductors, such that the weight of the inner conductor or conductors and insulation is effectively supported by the sheath.

  • Patent number: 4200980
Abstract: A composition and method for affixing a dental appliance to the teeth characterized by effecting a layer of catalyst that will effect polymerization of a bonding resin on the surface of the teeth to which the dental appliance is to be affixed, after the surface has been cleaned and dried so as to effect a good bond; effecting a layer of the catalyst on the base of at least a portion of the dental appliance that is to be bonded to the teeth after the base has been cleaned and dried so as to effect a good bond; positioning the base of the portion of the dental appliance adjacent the teeth after resin has been applied intermediate the two layers of catalyst on the base and on the surface of the tooth. After a predetermined cure time, the remainder of the dental appliance is affixed in place. The bonding resin is selected from the group consisting of epoxy, per se or capped with hydrolysis-resistant moiety; urethane; cyano-acrylate; methacrylate; vinyl ester; and acrylate.

  • Patent number: 4179008
Abstract: A loudspeaker assemblage is made up of a group of cylindrical speaker housings, with a speaker mounted in each housing. A respective spacer in the form of a wedge block or angle sleeve is interposed between adjacent housings, so that housing end closures abut respective wedges. A flexible tension member passes through each speaker housing and spacer so that when the tension member is taut, the housings and spacers are clamped to make up a relatively rigid structure having a generally toroidal shape. The tension member is releasable so that the speaker housings can be rotated about a respective axis normal to the speaker axis to selectively orient the speakers. When the tension member is taut, the speakers are retained in the selected orientation.

  • Patent number: 4124070
Abstract: An improved wireline borehole shifting tool comprises upwardly extending upper dog means and downwardly extending lower dog means, with the upper dog means being extendable and retractable responsive to slack or tension, respectively, in the wireline; with the lower dog means being extendable and retractible and longitudinally movable relative to the upper dog means responsive to movement of a reciprocator shaft and power means that is disposed within the tool body beneath the lower dog means and with the lower dog means being at all times movable radially inwardly against a spring bias force. Also disclosed is an arrangement utilizing the shifting tool for running a caliper log of the borehole conduit diameter profile for a selected region, with the shifting tool lower dog means acting as the caliper sensing means. Further disclosed are unique methods for utilizing the shifting tool to perform shifting operations on devices that are disposed in wellbore conduits.

  • Patent number: 4094359
Abstract: Improved apparatus and methods are provided for conducting drill stem and production testing operations. A bypass sub removably receives a wireline tool in sealing engagement within a bypass sub bore, with the bypass sub including bypass passage means and selectively actuable port closure means to permit fluid from below the bypass sub to flow into conduit means above the bypass sub when the wireline tool is seated and secured in the bypass sub. In one embodiment, the means for selectively actuating the port closure means is a motorized shifter means incorporated in the wireline tool. The wireline tool carries selected sensor devices for sensing earth formation characteristics. Improved and unique means are provided for securing the wireline tool in the bypass sub and for selectively engaging the motorized shifter apparatus with the port closure means.

  • Patent number: 4089381
Abstract: Improved end closures for shaped charge unit chambers in borehole perforating tools have flanged peripheral portions to be clamped in the threaded joint when sidewalls of adjacent chambers are threadedly joined. Also disclosed are sealing means for conductor wires passing through the end closures, which sealing means involves means for compressing and deforming the conductor insulation so that the conductors with their insulation sealingly occupy a predetermined space between surfaces of cooperating compressing and deforming means.
