  • Patent number: 4747026
Abstract: An improved electric torch or flashlight of the type having an elongated case, a bulb and a battery source of electrical energy is disclosed. The flashlight includes a pressure-receiving surface, which may be in the form of a series of flexible segments formed of case material at an end of the case, a pressure-transmitting surface, which may be in the form of a nib at the end of a right-angle bend formed in the flexible segment, and a complementary surface, which may be a portion of the bulb. Radial pressure on the segments results in a longitudinal displacement of the complementary surface, which controls closing of the electrical circuit and illumination of the bulb.

  • Patent number: 4736219
Abstract: A camera having a lens cover is provided, at its one end portion, with a projecting portion which assists gripping of the camera. The lens cover is laterally slided to cover and uncover a front surface of an objective lens and is provided, on its front surface, with a recess to be engaged with fingers of a hand which grips the camera. The lens cover is operated by the fingers of the hand gripping the camera to move between an uncovering position where the lens cover is positioned adjacent to the projecting portion and a covering position where the lens cover is positioned apart from the projecting portion. The projecting portion in combination with a part of the lens cover located between an edge adjacent to the projecting portion and the recess constitutes a grip portion to be gripped for holding the camera.

  • Patent number: 4731245
Abstract: A vaccine, comprising as antigen, at least a part of the cell of strains of Streptococcus sanguis having a high pathogenic potential and capable of decomposing raffinose and mellibiose, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. Preferably, the antigen is derived from the pili-like structures on the surface layer of the cells. Antibodies produced by immunizing a mammal with said antigen to produce the corresponding antibodies in the body of said mammal and recovering the resultant antibodies from the mammal. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising as active ingredient said antibodies, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. • Patent number: 4729644
Abstract: An interchangeable zoom lens assembly in which a part of the zooming lens groups is commonly used for focusing includes a stationary barrel to be mounted on a camera body, a cam ring fitted over or inside the stationary barrel, a manually operable zooming ring and a manually operable focusing ring. The cam ring is rotated relative to the stationary barrel in response to manual operation of the zooming ring and is moved relative to the stationary barrel in the direction of the optical axis of the zoom lens in response to manual operation of the focusing ring. A transmission mechanism moves the zooming lens groups for zooming in response to the rotation of the cam ring and to move the part of the zooming lens groups for focusing while keeping the remaining part of the zooming lens groups at rest in response to the movement of the cam ring in the direction of the optical axis.

  • Patent number: 4724448
Abstract: A fixed focus amphibian camera comprises a foremost element of a taking lens group on a water tight camera body. The foremost element has a concave shaped surface on its front side. When the camera is used in water the refractive power of the concave shaped surface is reduced due to the difference in the refractive index between water and air, so that the subject distance that can be focused is shortened in water than in air.

  • Patent number: 4722899
Abstract: A process for producing an antibody having a high specificity to a first antigen and a low cross-reactivity with at least one second antigen, said first antigen comprising a desired antigenic determinant and said second antigen comprising at least one antigenic determinant which is structurally related to said desired antigenic determinant of said first antigen, which process comprises treating a mammal with a copolymer of D-glutamic acid and D-lysine coupled with said second antigen whereby to induce a substantially effective immunological tolerance to said second antigen and then immunizing said mammal with said first antigen. This process results in a higher productivity of a mammal cell capable of producing said desired antibody by culturing said mammal cell, for example, by forming a hybridoma with a suitable tumor cell and implanting the hybridoma into another mammal. The antibody or antiserum of this invention may with advantage be used for immunoassay such as radioimmunoassay.
