  • Patent number: 7857071
Abstract: A graphical grade indicator for use in earth moving operations has an improved, variable resolution and a substantially unlimited range. This grade indicator results in a more accurate indication of the position of a cutting blade relative to the desired grade and, as a result, allows a machine operator to more accurately control grading operations. In one embodiment, a graphical grade indicator has a graphical scale with a substantially unlimited range and various indications indicating a desired grade level and at least a first undesirable grade level. When the cutting blade deviates from the desired grade level, a first indication is provided indicating, illustratively, the direction and magnitude of movement of the cutting blade repositioning necessary to achieve the desired grade. The resolution of the graphical scale can be changed in order to provide a desired degree of accuracy in grading operations.

  • Patent number: 7847436
Abstract: A power supply including a plurality of power supply modules and method of operating such a power supply includes monitoring the state of individual power supply modules. The power supply modules are monitored to prevent the operation of the modules outside a predetermined range. One power supply described herein includes a greater number of power supply modules than necessary to produce a desired output waveform. This allows a subset of power supply modules to be chosen to produce the desired output based on the state of each of the power supply modules as determined by monitoring.

  • Patent number: 7828011
Abstract: A pneumatic safety valve prevents dangerously rapid outflow of pressurized air in the event that an air hose ruptures or a pneumatic tool is accidentally decoupled from the hose downstream of the valve. The valve has an internal air conduit in fluid communication with the inlet and outlet ports. The air conduit cooperates with a pivotal flap that selectively closes to prevent a sudden discharge of air in the event of a hose rupture or an accidental decoupling of the pneumatic tool from the hose. By containing the highly pressurized air and preventing the air from rapid discharge, the valve prevents the air hose from flailing or whipping violently, thus eliminating the physical dangers to operators and other personnel in the vicinity of the rupture. This simple and inexpensive valve ensures safe containment of hose ruptures or of accidental disconnections of the pneumatic tool from the high-pressure hose.

  • Patent number: 7757817
Abstract: The invention relates to a lift system wherein a drive unit (2) drives, by means of a driving disk (4.1), a flat belt-type carrier means (12.1, 12.2) which carries the lift cage (3). Said flat belt-type carrier means comprises several ribs (20.1, 20.2) which extend in a parallel manner in a longitudinal direction of the carrier means on a bearing surface which is orientated towards the driving disk (4.1) and each rib comprises at least two traction carriers (22) which are orientated in a longitudinal direction of the carrier means. The whole cross-sectional surface of all the traction carriers (22) is at least 25% of the cross-section surface of the carrier means.

  • Patent number: 7710316
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining coordinates of a mobile rover. The method includes determining a vector of one-shot code coordinates of the mobile rover. The method also includes determining a vector of phase increments by determining full phase differences for each navigation satellite in a plurality of navigation satellites in view at a discrete time interval (called a time epoch) and at a previous time epoch in a plurality of time epochs. A vector of radial range increments is determined from the full phase differences. A vector of rover phase coordinate increments is also determined using the vector of radial range increments. The vector of one-shot code coordinates and the vector of rover phase coordinate increments are then filtered to determine, at each time epoch, smoothed code coordinates of the mobile rover. Measured phase increments are cleared up from abnormal measurements.

  • Patent number: 7710324
Abstract: A patch antenna having a plurality of structures, referred to herein as comb structures, is disclosed that results in an antenna having a reduced overall patch size and weight as well as a broader the angular response pattern of the antenna. In a first embodiment, comb structures are attached to one of the surface of the patch or the surface of the ground plane. In a second embodiment, the comb structures are attached to both the patch and the ground plane in a manner such that the structures interleave with each other. The structures may be pins or ribs that are electrically connected to the ground plane and/or the patch, or may be any other suitable configuration depending upon the polarization of the signal to be transmitted or received.

  • Patent number: 7703465
Abstract: A locking assembly is disclosed for use with a walker or a rollator having foldable side members. The locking assembly includes a locking pin movable between a first position in which the corresponding side member is held in a locked, unfolded state and a second position in which the side member is in an unlocked, folded state. A lock plate extends transversely to the longitudinal axis of the corresponding side member, and includes an aperture adapted to receive a locking end of the locking pin when the pin is in its first position. A lever is coupled to the locking pin such that when the lever is pivoted by upwardly applied pressure, the locking pin is moved from its first position to its second position to permit rotation of the corresponding side member to its folded state.

  • Patent number: 7689351
Abstract: A virtual profilograph is disclosed that can provide measurements indicative of the ride quality of a roadway as the road is being constructed. As a result, a more timely, less costly indication of the ride quality of a roadway is obtained as compared to prior methods. In a first embodiment a Global Navigation Satellite System antenna is attached to a vehicle. When the vehicle travels over a roadway, measurements of the position of the antenna are recorded at different times. A profile of the roadway is created by measuring the elevation of the antenna as a function of the distance traveled from a starting point. In another embodiment, tilt sensors are used to measure the slope of the roadway and the tilt of the vehicle so that a precise orientation of the vehicle and, hence, the contours of the roadway, can be determined.
