  • Patent number: 6775340
Abstract: A mobile communications system receiver has improved synchronization and channel estimation for receiving a transmitted signal passing through a radio channel. A processor receives and samples the transmitted signal for a plurality of timing hypotheses. A channel estimator hypothesizes unknown symbols at a pilot cluster of the sampled signal and estimates the radio channel of the pilot cluster for each hypothesized symbol sequence. The estimator determines an error corresponding to each hypothesized symbol sequence using the sampled signal, the estimated radio channel and the hypothesized symbols and determines actual timing estimates and actual radio channel estimates by selecting the radio channel estimates associated with the hypothesized symbols and the timing and hypothesis that minimizes the error.

  • Patent number: 6581035
Abstract: A server for processing voice-enabled transactions from a communication device including a communications interface in communication with the communications device for receiving a voice transaction message generated at the communications device, the voice transaction message being in one of a plurality of predetermined formats for carrying out a transaction. A voice recognition processor is coupled to the communications interface for performing voice recognition on the voice transaction message to generate a recognized message. A controller, operating under a program and in communication with the communications interface and the voice recognition processor, receives the recognized message, generates a corresponding processed transaction message for the transaction, and sends the processed transaction message to the communications device using the communications interface.

  • Patent number: 6546492
Abstract: A system and method for updating software for a remote unit over a network is disclosed herein. The system and method includes the remote unit, an authentication server and an update server. The remote unit may have a flasher host for communicating over the network and for transmitting commands to the remote unit. The system and method allows for the verification of a request message from the remote unit, and a response from the authentication server. The response message to the remote unit from the authentication server will contain an decryption key to decrypt the update file that will be sent by the update server. Such an authentication process prevents rogue programs from being sent to the remote unit thereby decreasing the potential for cellular fraud.

  • Patent number: 6497433
Abstract: A coupling assembly comprising a female connector body, a male member, a retainer and a dust barrier with integral secondary latch. The female connector body defines a bore extending axially inwardly into the body from an entrance. A radial face is defined in the bore axially inwardly of the entrance. The male member is received within the bore and having a radially enlarged annular upset. The retainer has at least two locking beams extending between the upset and the radial face to retain the male member in the bore. The locking beams define a slot between said locking beams. The dust barrier with integral secondary latch is slidably mounted on the male member axially outward of the retainer. The dust barrier has a skirt surrounding the entrance. The dust barrier further has at least one leg extending axially inward into the bore engaging the radial face to secure the dust barrier to the female connector body.

  • Patent number: 6446711
Abstract: Difficulties in obtaining consistent bonds of high quality between side pieces and tubular headers (10), (12) in heat exchangers are avoided in a side piece (42) that extends between the headers (10), (12) and which has circular recesses (48) at each end (44), (46). The recesses (48) define resilient fingers (56), (58) which may separate to receive the ends of the headers (10), (12) and frictionally grasp the same, eliminating the need for fixturing at this location and assuring a strong consistent gripping of the headers (10), (12), by the end piece (42) to assure consistent bonds of high quality.

  • Patent number: 6434941
Abstract: A room temperature heat engine, wherein only one pipe structure for connecting a high pressure part to a low pressure part, which is a fatal structural defect of the room temperature heat engine for decorative toys (water drinking bird, peace bird) which merely produces a weak and small mechanical energy, is improved so as to produce much powerful mechanical energy for practical use of the engine, no energy source being required because the energy used for power generation is a beat obtained from the atmospheric temperature, the high and low temperature parts are connected to each other through at least two pipes, the high temperature and low temperature parts are formed in a stationary large-sized structure, two pipes are used exclusively for a gas-only pipe and a liquid-only pipe, and a turbine wheel is installed in the fluid-only pipe so as to turn the waterwheel under a fluid flow from the low temperature part for power generation.

  • Patent number: 6427766
Abstract: A compact cooling system for a vehicle includes an assembly of heat exchangers (10), (12), (14) and (16) connected to each other to provide a box-like configuration. Each heat exchanger (10), (12), (14), (16) includes a core with headers (20), (22) at each end in fluid communication with spaced, flattened tubes (18) with fins (24) extending between the tubes in each of the cores. One of the cores (10) is generally horizontal and located at the upper side of the box-like configuration. A radial discharge fan (42) is located within the box-like configuration and receives cooling air and directs the same radially outwardly through the cores to cool fluid passing through the tubes (18) of the cores. An equalization tank (60), (80) is mounted on the box-like configuration in overlying, spaced relation to a substantial portion of the surface of the heat exchanger (18) so as to be in the path of cooling air merging from the heat exchanger (10) to divert the same.

  • Patent number: 6397939
Abstract: Problems due to fin fall-out in the manufacture of heat exchangers having flattened tubes (14) with interposed serpentine fins (16) are eliminated by providing the exterior sides (22), (24) of the tube (14) with elongated, relatively sharp ridges (36). The ridges (36) form deformations (52) in the crests of the fins (16) which lock the fins (16) and the tubes (14) together during the brazing process, thereby preventing such fall-out.
