Abstract: Various aspects are disclosed for building a device driver stack in a virtual machine partition that does not physically control the device represented by the stack. In an embodiment, a secondary interface and driver for an I/O device may be instantiated. Information from an I/O virtualization layer describing the devices that the associated driver may control may be requested. A multi-path redirection layer may provide a handle to an existing stack that includes a driver for the I/O device. This existing stack may then be used to communicate with the device and allow the creation of a new stack including an object representing the device and a new driver for the device. The multi-path redirection layer may then open a handle to the new stack and inform the device virtualization layer, which may then ask the existing device interface to relinquish control of the device to the newly created interface.

Abstract: Devices, methods and computer-readable media for providing broad quality of service optimization using policy-based selective quality degradation. Data associated with a quality of service for customers and QoS policy rules are stored. Customers are grouped for potential degradation. Levels of degradation are defined for each type of user device. Degradation for the group of customers is optimized using policy rules. Degradation is adjusted to account for variations in user treatment within the group. The adjusted degradation is then implemented.

Abstract: Emergency communication initiated from an internet protocol enabled device may be recognized and established. An address representative of a designated recipient with which communication is to be established may be provided to a first communication service operating on the internet protocol enabled device, such as a wireless mobile device. The communication may be a non-voice communication or a voice communication. The communication may be determined to be indicative of an emergency. The communication may be established with a recipient associated with the designated recipient address via a second communication service operating on the internet protocol enabled device and a predetermined network upon the communication being indicative of an emergency. The predetermined network may provide the communication between the internet protocol enabled device and the recipient securely.

There is a database in communication with the alert gateway and an emergency alert server configured to broadcast the alert message to the subscriber base, and if the first stored portion of the alert message is not available, then broadcasting only the text message as the alert message.

Abstract: A restraint device is disclosed that limits the movement of the cable or rope relative to the traction, thus reducing or eliminating the popping noise associated with the cable or rope snapping back against the traction sheave. In one embodiment, the restraint device comprises a molded component that is fitted to encompass the region of the sheave where separation of the wire rope from the sheave is most likely to occur. The restraint device may be mounted so that it is removable and replaceable with minimal dismantling of the hoist containing the sheave. The restraint device may be reversible so that one restraint device may by used for at least two cycles before being replaced. Indication of the need for replacement may be provided by including a second color material at the depth where wear reaches the allowable limit, thereby providing a visual signal to initiate replacement as seen during service.

Abstract: Project property sheets store project compiler and tool properties that are shared across multiple software projects. Property sheets enable a global repository of compiler and tool settings, so that changes in a global project property sheet will automatically propagate to the project property sheets that inherit from the global project property sheet, or from other project property sheets that inherit from the global project property sheet. Users of project property sheets are able to customize their project property sheet by defining their own compiler and tool properties. Defined compiler and tool properties override or supplement compiler and tool properties found in the global project property sheet.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for generating stereoscopic images for a user based on one or more images captured by one or more scene-facing cameras or detectors and the position of the user's eyes or other parts relative to a component of the system as determined from one or more images captured by one or more user-facing detectors. The image captured by the scene-facing detector is modified based on the user's eye or other position. The resulting image represents the scene as seen from the perspective of the eye of the user. The resulting image may be further modified by augmenting the image with additional images, graphics, or other data. Stereoscopic mechanisms may also be adjusted or configured based on the location or the user's eyes or other parts.
