Patent number: 8077103Abstract: A cup waveguide antenna with integrated polarizer and OMT for simultaneously communicating left and right hand circularly polarized electromagnetic waves is adjustable to obtain efficient propagation and reception of electromagnetic waves. The antenna includes a circular waveguide having an orthomode transducer utilizing first and second pins longitudinally spaced apart and oriented orthogonally with respect to each other. Six radially-oriented adjustable polarizer screws extend from the exterior to the interior of the waveguide. A septum intermediate the first and second pins is aligned with the first pin. Adjustment of the polarizer screws enables maximized propagation of and/or response to left hand circularly polarized electromagnetic waves by the first pin while simultaneously enabling maximized propagation of and/or response to right hand circularly polarized electromagnetic waves by the second pin.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2007Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventors: Roberto J. Patent number: 7933027Abstract: A computer implemented process for simultaneously measuring the velocity of terahertz electromagnetic radiation in a dielectric material sample without prior knowledge of the thickness of the sample and for measuring the thickness of a material sample using terahertz electromagnetic radiation in a material sample without prior knowledge of the velocity of the terahertz electromagnetic radiation in the sample is disclosed and claimed. Utilizing interactive software the process evaluates, in a plurality of locations, the sample for microstructural variations and for thickness variations and maps the microstructural and thickness variations by location. A thin sheet of dielectric material may be used on top of the sample to create a dielectric mismatch. The approximate focal point of the radiation source (transceiver) is initially determined for good measurements.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2008Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Administrator of National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationInventor: Donald J Roth

Patent number: 6550267Abstract: A method for chilling an animal carcass comprises spraying the outer surface of the carcass with a liquid, preferably water, which will freeze on the outer surface of the carcass to form a solid shell to prevent moisture loss from the carcass. Preferably, the liquid is sprayed onto the outer surfaces of the carcass at a critical point in the chilling process at which the outer surface of the carcass reaches a temperature close to the freezing point of the liquid. The liquid is preferably sprayed onto the carcass within a spray cabinet which is preferably positioned along a conveyor line in a refrigeration chamber through which the carcass is conveyed. The spray cabinet comprises heated side walls which maintain a temperature inside the cabinet greater than the freezing point of the liquid, which is sprayed onto the carcass by a plurality of nozzles located within the spray cabinet.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Maple Leaf Foods Inc.Inventors: Gordon R. Patent number: 6523596Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a flexible curtain as disclosed and claimed. Edges of a polymeric material are folded back on themselves. A portion of the edges are secured and a portion is left unsecured or free. The flexible curtain is used in a windlocking apparatus to prevent the unwanted intrusion of wind, water and debris into a building opening. The free, or unsecured flap of the folded edge absorbs shock associated with storm disturbances. Edge rollers are used to laminate the edges of the curtains selectively such that only a portion of the edge is secured leaving the flap unsecured. Stitching, ultrasonic welding and gluing are alternative ways and/or additional ways of providing for the securement of a portion of the edge to itself. Perforations are made in the secured portion of the folded edge.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2000Date of Patent: February 25, 2003Assignee: Wayne-Dalton CorporationInventors: Willis Jay Mullet, Donald Bruce Kyle, Kelly Ray Green, Harry Edward Asbury

Patent number: 6467502Abstract: A manifold assembly and method of making the same is disclosed. The manifold assembly is preferably made of a polymer. A mold is used to make the manifold portion of the manifold assembly such that small diameter passageways and valve seats are formed enabling use of small solenoids. Since pressure is applied to small diameter plunger seals (valves) driven by solenoid plungers, small solenoids may be used because the force on the solenoid plungers is correspondingly low. The manifold assembly is comprised of a manifold portion and a plug portion. The manifold portion, as disclosed, has an inlet port for the supply of air pressure. An inlet housing in which an inlet solenoid is housed, a supply port for supplying air to or exhausting air from a reservoir, and an exhaust housing in which an exhaust solenoid is housed are connected to a chamber. The chamber which interconnects the housings and supply port is enclosed by the plug portion which is ultrasonically welded to the manifold portion.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2000Date of Patent: October 22, 2002Assignee: Snap-Tite Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Timothy L. Patent number: 6386221Abstract: A solenoid valve is mounted in the bore of a ferromagnetic journal. Mounting the solenoid valve in the journal conserves space on the firewall of a vehicle where the solenoid is typically located. Journal mounting also minimizes the length of the air line necessary to supply air to the solenoid valve. Use of a ferromagnetic journal as part of the magnetic circuit allows full use of the journal bore for the components of the solenoid valve. A leak vent path is provided as well as a principal vent path in the flux flanges of the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve controls the flow of air through a seal which engages a rotating coupling of a clutch which operates a fan.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2001Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: Snap-Tite Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Christopher C.
