  • Patent number: 6509248
Abstract: The present invention relates to the formation of multiple gettering structures within a semiconductive substrate by ion implantation through recesses in the semiconductive substrate. A preferred embodiment of the present invention includes forming the recesses by using a reactive anisotropic etching medium, followed by implanting a gettering material. The gettering material is implanted by changing the gettering material for the reactive anisotropic etching medium. An advantage of the method of the present invention is that gettering structures are formed without the cost of an extra masking procedure and without the expense of MeV implantation equipment and procedures. As a result, metallic contaminants will not move as freely through the semiconductive substrate in the region of an active area proximal to the gettering structures.

  • Patent number: 6507065
Abstract: A silicon structure is formed that includes a free-standing wall having opposing roughen ed inner and outer surfaces using ion implantation and an unplanted silicon etching process which is selective to implanted silicon. In general, the method provides a recess in a layer of insulating material into which a polysilicon layer is formed. A layer of HSG or CSG polysilicon is subsequently formed on the polysilicon layer, after which ions are implanted into both the layer of HSG or CSG polysilicon and the underlying polysilicon layer. The aforementioned selective etching process is then conducted to result in a relatively unplanted portion being etched away and a highly implanted portion being left standing to form the free-standing wall. The free-standing wall has an inner surface that is roughen ed by the layer of HSG or CSG polysilicon. The free-standing wall also has a roughen ed outer surface to which has been transferred a near-impression image topography of the opposing inner surface.

  • Patent number: 6505232
Abstract: A server system provides a client system with a number of on-line services including a log-in service. Once the server receives a request from the user for initiating access to the server, the log-in service accesses a user database for information including access privileges of the authorized user in relation to the other services available on the server. The server then generates an information packet containing this information, and transmits the information packet to the client. The client than transmits a second request to the server, requesting use of another service offered by the server. The information packet provided by the server in response to the log-in request is transmitted along with the second request to the server. The server then regulates access by the client to this other service by using the information packet transmitted back to the server from the client. Thus, access to the user database is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6502467
Abstract: An improved method and system for measuring a multi-phase flow in a pressure flow meter. An extended throat venturi is used and pressure of the multi-phase flow is measured at three or more positions in the venturi, which define two or more pressure differentials in the flow conduit. The differential pressures are then used to calculate the mass flow of the gas phase, the total mass flow, and the liquid phase. The system for determining the mass flow of the high void fraction fluid flow and the gas flow includes taking into account a pressure drop experienced by the gas phase due to work performed by the gas phase in accelerating the liquid phase.

  • Patent number: 6499031
Abstract: Provided is a method for locking computer resources and for accessing locked computer resources. Resources being used by remote users can be locked such that other remote users and local users have restricted access to those resources. The remote user provides the resource to be locked, the type of lock to place on the resource and the duration of the lock. If the resource is available and the user has the proper credentials and the proper access permissions, the resource is locked and a lock token is provided to the remote user. A resource handle is also provided to the remote user. Once a resource has been locked, the lock token must be provided and verified before access to the resource is granted. Because the locks can be discovered, a security token of the owner of the lock is associated with the lock token. The security token of the remote user must also match the security token associated with the stored lock token before access to the resource is granted. The locks can either expire or be refreshed.

  • Patent number: 6495919
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward the formation of implanted thermally and electrically conductive structures in a dielectric. An electrically conductive structure, such as an interconnect, is formed through ion implantation into several levels within a dielectric layer to penetrate into an electrically conductive region beneath the dielectric layer, such as a semiconductor substrate. Ion implantation continues in discreet, overlapping implantations of the ions from the electrical conductive region up to the top of the dielectric layer so as to form a continuous interconnect. Structural qualities achieved by the method of the present invention include a low interconnect-conductive region resistivity and a low thermal-cycle stress between the interconnect and the dielectric layer in which the interconnect has been implanted.
