Patent number: 8340618Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses, and combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for down-converting an electromagnetic (EM) signal are described herein. Briefly stated, in embodiments the invention operates by receiving an EM signal and recursively operating on approximate half cycles (½, 1½, 2½, etc.) of the carrier signal. The recursive operations can be performed at a sub-harmonic rate of the carrier signal. The invention accumulates the results of the recursive operations and uses the accumulated results to form a down-converted signal. In an embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to a baseband information signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is a frequency modulated (FM) signal, which is down-converted to a non-FM signal, such as a phase modulated (PM) signal or an amplitude modulated (AM) signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: ParkerVision, Inc.Inventors: David F. Patent number: 8337652Abstract: An efficient lamination presses can rapidly provide both heating and cooling, as well as pressure to resin sheets to create a laminate end-product. Specifically, an efficient lamination press can comprise one or more components and apparatus that can apply uniform fluid pressure across one or more platens. The one or more platens, in turn, can flex about one or more contours in a layup assembly. For example, an exemplary platen can comprise a plurality of coupled platen extensions, which can flex or otherwise adjust about each other to help create flexibility in the platen, and thus, uniform pressure across a laminate assembly.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2009Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: 3form, Inc.Inventors: Matthew B. Patent number: 8340431Abstract: An automatic photographing method with face recognition is applied in a camera having a detecting lens and a photographing lens for a user to photograph a target. First, detect a face of the user through the detecting lens, and obtain a plurality of face images of the detected face. Then, capture an image variance of the obtained face images, and photograph the target through a photographing lens when the captured image variance exceeds a photographing starting value. Therefore, during the whole photographing process, photographing can be achieved through determining variations of the face images of the user without pressing the shutter key of the camera, thereby completely preventing handshakes resulted from the pressing action, and thus improving the photographing quality.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2008Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Altek CorporationInventors: Tzu-Chih Lin, Huan-Chun Lo

Patent number: 8339411Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for assigning color values to pixels based on object structure. For example, when rendering a writing system symbol on an electronic display, a non-color characteristic of the symbol can be measured and the measurement can be used to select a color value for a pixel associated with the symbol. Legibility of open and closed line-based graphical objects can be increased by inferring spatial depth and distance through application of a color assignment model.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2006Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Geraldine Wade, Tanya Matskewich

Patent number: 8341687Abstract: Described are methods and apparatus for enhancing an information resource, such as a Web page, simultaneously residing in memory on a number of remote receivers. A content creator, (e.g., a program producer, broadcaster, affiliate, cable company or satellite provider), embeds a trigger in a data service channel of a broadcast signal. The trigger includes a resource identifier unique to the information resource and a script capable of modifying the information resource. The script might be a script or a segment of a script written in a conventional scripting language. Each receiver that includes the targeted information resource monitors the data service channel of the broadcast video signal for script-bearing triggers directed to that resource. If a receiver receives a script-bearing trigger directed to the resident resource, the receiver executes the script contained within the trigger to alter the resource and/or the displayed video defined by the resource.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2005Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Dean J. Patent number: 8340655Abstract: A communications device (1) communicates with an access point (7) to gateway (21) and local area network (13) by a wired or wireless communications link (9). These components may, for example, be accommodated on a train or serve some other predefined area. Gateway (21) receives data packets from device (1) representing information for transmission via that device's “home” communication system (15) to a destination device. The gateway (21) creates packet data protocol channels (27,29,31) with a plurality of communication systems (15,23) and (25) and sends the data packets received from the device (1) selectively over each of these communications channels (27,29,31). A link between a communications systems (23) and (25) allows the data packets to be forwarded to the communications system (15) where they are compiled by concentrator (49) for onward transmission. The communication systems (15,23,25) may be mobile or cellular communications systems.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2005Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Vodafone Group PLCInventors: Nick Papadoglou, Bulent Ozgur Gurleyen

Patent number: 8336035Abstract: Embodiments described herein are directed to allowing a user to extend the functionality of a software code interpretation system. In one embodiment, a computer system receives user-defined conversion rules from a user for converting dynamic language code to continuation-based abstract memory representations. The computer system identifies portions of software code that are to be converted from dynamic language abstract memory representations into continuation-based abstract memory representations, where the identified code portions include undefined, extensible input primitives. The computer system also generates a dynamic, extensible set of output primitives interpretable by a continuation-based code interpretation system using the received conversion rules and converts the identified code portions including the undefined, extensible input primitives from dynamic language abstract memory representations into continuation-based abstract memory representations using the generated set of output primitives.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2008Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: John Robert Lambert, Kenneth D.
