  • Patent number: 5003008
Abstract: Shaped articles of a crosslinked poly(vinylidene fluoride) resin can be prepared in a relatively simple process to be imparted with greatly improved resistance against heat, water, and chemicals in a much higher productivity than in the conventional electron-beam irradiation method. The method comprises the steps of (a) compounding the resin with an organosilane compound having an ethylenically unsaturated group, e.g., vinyl, and at least one alkoxy group in a molecule and a free-radical generator, e.g., organic peroxides, (b) heating the resin compound to effect graft-polymerization of the organosilane compound to the polymer molecules, (c) shaping the resin compound into a desired form, and (d) heating the shaped body in water containing a silanol-condensation catalyst dissolved or dispersed therein.

  • Patent number: 4988758
Abstract: The fluorine-substituted organopolysiloxane as the principal ingredient of the inventive silicone rubber composition has vinyl groups to serve as the cross-linking points at the molecular chain terminals while at least the penultimate siloxane unit or the silicon atom adjacent to the terminal silicon atom has no fluorine-substituted hydrocarbon group bonded to the silicon atom. Being freed from the steric hindrance due to the bulky fluorine-substituted hydrocarbon group bonded to the adjacent silicon atom, the vinyl group bonded to the terminal silicon atom can pertain to the cross-linking reaction much easier than otherwise so that the silicone rubber composition of the invention containing an organic peroxide or a combination of an organohydrogenpolysiloxane and a platinum catalyst as a curing agent can be rapidly cured to give a cured silicone rubber article having excellent resistance against oils and organic solvents as well as mechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 4977320
Abstract: An electrospray ion source is designed for ready and simple plugging into commercial mass analyzers for mass spectrometric analysis of organic molecules. The electrospray is carried out is the ambient air and the ions and other charged species enter the mass analyuzer through a long metal capillary tube and three stages of differential pumping. The use of the long tube allows (a) convenient injection of the ions into the mass analyzer (b) optimization of the spray by direct visualization in the air (c) efficient and controlled heat transfer to the droplets and (d) efficient pumping of the region between the capillary exit and the skinner. Desolvation of the solvated ions is carried out using a combination of controlled heat transfer to the charged droplets during the transit through the tube and collisional activation in a region of reduced pressure. Desolvation with this system does not involve use of a strong countercurrent flow of heated gas.

  • Patent number: 4971831
Abstract: A novel organopolysiloxane compound is proposed which has, in a molecule, at least three (meth)acryloxy groups localized at only one of the molecular chain ends of the polysiloxane chain. By virtue of the localization of the (meth)acryloxy groups, the organopolysiloxane compound is highly curable by the irradiation with a radiation, e.g., electron beams and ultraviolet light, to give a cured coating film on a substrate surface exhibiting excellent releasability against sticky substances. A synthetic route for the preparation of such a one-end crosslinkable organopolysiloxane compound is described.
