  • Patent number: 4544164
Abstract: A seal for a shaft rotatably mounted in a housing. The seal is fabricated of a resilient material and includes a generally hollow elliptical attachment and an annular lip-shaped element which extends outwardly at an angle from a top side of the attachment. The lip-shaped element has a terminal free end which rests against the housing in a plane perpendicular to the shaft axis. When the seal is slidably positioned on the shaft the elliptical attachment deforms into a cylindrical shape in sealing relation with the shaft. This deformation causes the lip-shaped element to assume an elliptical configuration. Rotation of the shaft relative to the housing causes the free end of the lip-shaped element to move back and forth in a radial direction affecting removal of dirt particles from the housing.

  • Patent number: 4526259
Abstract: In a hydraulically operable release arrangement for clutches, especially for vehicle clutches, the release force is transmitted to the plate spring or the like of the clutch by way of a piston, a fixed bearing ring, a multiplicity of rolling bodies, and a rotating bearing ring. The piston is movably arranged in a housing and is biased by a helical spring arranged in a pressure space formed between the piston and the housing. The piston and the housing are each provided with an axial projection. In order to secure the piston against rotation and to damp vibrations in the piston without additional machining or special parts, the helical spring is arranged with its spring ends abutting the axial projections such that rotation of the piston in the direction of rotation of the rotating bearing ring is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4516962
Abstract: A tension roller for a drive belt is comprised of a two-part pin and a roller rotatably supported on the pin by a rolling bearing. One part of the pin is substantially solid and has a seating surface for receiving the inner ring of the rolling bearing. The other part of the pin is cup-shaped and extends over the seating surface to engage a side surface of the inner ring. An eccentric bore is provided in the pin for mounting the tension roller on a machine frame by means of a mounting screw. The eccentric bore, in the solid portion of the pin, extends to and separates the outer surface of the pin, whereby the mounting screw partially engages the inner ring of the bearing. The arrangement permits the maximum range of tension adjustments for the tension roller.

  • Patent number: 4511989
Abstract: A linear interpolating method and apparatus for signals in a memory wherein first signals are converted into second signals by addressing in at least four-dimensional fashion, for use in a color picture processing machine such as a color scanner, a color facsimile, a color T.V. monitor, and other signal processing machine converting coordinates of signals with at least four variables, are disclosed. The second signals corresponding to certain stepped values of the first signals are read out of the memory, and then the values of the read signals are interpolated at an interpolation point positioned therebetween. At least four-dimensional interpolation unit space is divided into at least four-dimensional dissection spaces, and then it is discriminated which of the dissection spaces includes the interpolation point. Then, the interpolated value at the interpolation point is obtained as a weighted sum of the values at the vertices of the discriminated dissection space.

  • Patent number: 4505369
Abstract: In a clutch throwout, particularly for automotive clutches, a self-centering clutch bearing is arranged on or in a sliding sleeve. The stationary bearing ring of the clutch bearing is connected with the sliding sleeve via an intermediate element, which features guides for the radial sliding, in two mutually crossing radial directions, of the clutch bearing in relation to the sliding sleeve. To enable the clutch bearing to slide in any radial direction and to position itself precisely centered in relation to the tongue ends of the clutch diaphragm spring, without great constraining forces, while, regardless of position, damping the relative movements of clutch bearing in relation to sliding sleeve, intermediate element is radially interlocked with the stationary bearing ring and with the sliding sleeve, in two mutually crossing directions.

  • Patent number: RE31815
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting the presence of caries in human teeth using visible luminescence. A region to be examined is excited with a beam of monochromatic light. The intensity of the visible light emitted from the region is measured at two predetermined wavelengths, one where the intensity dependence of the spectra is about the same for caries and noncaries and the other where the relative intensity increases significantly in the presence of caries. A signal corresponding to the difference in the two intensities is obtained and then displayed. By first determining the magnitude of the difference signal at a nondecayed region, any increases in the magnitude as other regions are probed indicate the presence of caries. The invention is based on the discovery that the visible luminescence spectra for decayed and nondecayed regions of a human tooth are substantially different and that the differences are such that visible luminescence from teeth can be used to detect the presence of caries.
