Abstract: A drive mechanism is disclosed for photographic film and paper processing machines employing a plurality of processing tanks in succession and with roller transports therein for the film and paper, as well as for other components of film processing machines including area measuring apparatus and driers for the film and paper, which drive mechanism eliminates the necessity for careful alignment of the transverse drive shafts for the respective components, the transverse drive shafts for each of the components preferably being loosely pivotally mounted in the frame of the component at one end and loosely carried in the frame of the component at the other end, with provisions associated with the main frame of the machine for retention of the transverse drive shafts, a drive gear mounted on each transverse drive shaft meshing with a worm gear mounted on a longitudinal drive shaft which is supported by the machine frame at spaced locations along its length.
Abstract: Laminated insulation is provided that is of increased efficiency without any great increase in the total thickness of insulation used which has an internal reflector which reflects back both hot and cold air from the internal reflector. The structure includes a plurality of plastic skins with air bubbles trapped therebetween which structure is laminated to other types of insulation and may have internal provisions to increase its strength.
Abstract: Decorative fabrics and methods of making the same are disclosed the fabrics, depending upon their constituents serving a wide range of uses, including wall coverings, floor coverings, upholstery fabrics and fabrics useful for other purposes. The fabrics have an exposed decorative face, preferably composed of parallel longitudinal yarns, which are brought together onto a supporting web and then passed through a needle loom so that fibers from the face extend through and are exposed on the back. Various provisions may be made to achieve the integrity of the decorative fabric including the application onto the back of the supporting web of a bonding coating, or application by an adhesive of a backing of paper or other type web, and additionally, if desired, of a felt or other backing including a resilient or sound absorbing backing.

Abstract: A solar heating system is described which includes solar heat collectors mounted on the roof or side of a building facing toward the sun with air in contact therewith for heating, which air is circulated through ducts in a heat storage unit, the air flow being controlled by a differential thermostat which provides heated air to the storage unit so long as the temperature of the air in the heat collectors is a few degress above that of the storage unit. The heat storage unit has ducts therein communicating with the interior of a building but separate from the ducts attached to the collectors for transferring stored heat from the storage unit to air to be circulated within the building. The air circulation within the building is controlled by a thermostat attached to a blower and to a source of auxiliary heat when the temperature in the storage unit is below a predetermined level. The storage unit may have a pipe loop passing therethrough for pre-heating the water for a domestic hot water heater.
Abstract: Apparatus for extracting tubes from the tube sheets of a heat exchanger is provided which is particularly suitable for the removal of tubes of small internal diameter and which includes a tube pulling dart having a tapered threaded end for engagement within the tube and a sleeve secured thereto for automatic attachment of a power operated pulling mechanism. The threads on the dart preferably have a right triangular cross section with vertical faces for applying the load from the threads onto the tube to be extracted. In another embodiment the attachment is manual.
