  • Patent number: 6250206
Abstract: A filled hydraulic piston assembly includes a piston body having first and second ends and a compartment in the piston body extending inwardly from the second end toward the first end. The piston is filled with an insert element which is inserted into the compartment of the piston and then held therein by pushing an annular lip on the second end of the body inwardly and against the adjacent end of the insert element. The insert element is comprised of a material that is less dense than the material of the body but has a higher bulk modulus than hydraulic oil. Oil channels can be formed in a variety of shapes on or around the insert so that oil may flow through the filled piston. The piston insert element can be formed from a variety of materials, such as plastic, magnesium, aluminum or other nonferrous metals. The body is generally comprised of steel.

  • Patent number: 6249582
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing the overhead of a block cipher includes shortening the length of the initialization vector so that its length is less than the length of each block of information processed by the block cipher. The block cipher is utilized in cipher block chaining mode. The shortened vector is loaded into the block cipher with other pseudo-random bits. Cipher block chaining prevents the overall cycle length of the block cipher from decreasing. Thus, channel burden of repeatedly transmitting the initialization vector is reduced because it is shorter, but security is not unduly diminished because cycle length is not diminished. Late entry can be achieved. Also, combination of this method with coasting can increase accurate synchronization even in severely corrupted channels. Security level versus amount of vector shortening can be selected.

  • Patent number: 6244196
Abstract: An apparatus and method for burning organic material including farm bedding waste of the present invention includes a firebox having an air injector disposed within the firebox. A heat exchanger is also disposed within the firebox above the air injector. The fuel to be burned, a mixture of organic farm bedding waste, is piled in the firebox surrounding the air injector and heat exchanger. By injecting air into the pile of fuel, the fuel is burned from the inside out, surrounding the heat exchanger with the burning fuel. The unburned fuel acts to insulate the burning fuel from the walls of the firebox.

  • Patent number: 6238444
Abstract: The tantalum chip capacitor of the present invention includes a anode terminal which is substantially flat. The tantalum wire which extends from the tantalum pellet through the insulating material terminates substantially flush with the insulating material, allowing the termination materials to be applied over a substantially flat surface. The tantalum chip capacitors of the present invention are created by methods which include the step of grinding the anode end of the capacitor so that the tantalum wire is flush with the insulating material. Conductive materials can then be applied to the anode end of the capacitor creating a substantially flat anode terminal.
