  • Patent number: 4416719
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for closely covering with a plastic film at least one surface of a base sheet such as identification card to improve the durability of the base sheet and to prevent any unauthorized alteration of information described thereon. The above apparatus includes a pair of conveying and pressing rollers and a heat radiation lamp incorporated therein to heat the circumference of at least one of the rollers. The base sheet and the plastic film overlaid are preheated by direct heat from the heat radiation lamp while being conveyed toward the pair of rollers, thereby achieving a high-speed processing and prevention of base sheet deformation. Also disclosed is an apparatus equipped with a heat transmission member along the base sheet feed path of a base sheet travelling path. The heat transmission member is adapted to present the base sheet and the plastic film, and may be formed by a part of a reflector plate.

  • Patent number: 4410837
Abstract: A device for lighting a discharge lamp such as a xenon short-arc lamp is provided. The device includes a starter comprising a starter energizing capacitor connected to the boost voltage charging capacitor, a thyristor, a high voltage pulse transformer, a discharge gap, a starting capacitor, a diode and a Tesla coil. The starter is actuated with the energy charged in the boost voltage charging capacitor without any special power source therefor. The ignition voltage of the thyristor is higher than the output voltage of the power circuit of the ballast.

  • Patent number: 4399930
Abstract: A foam dispensing gun of the type having a disposable nozzle for mixing and dispensing separate fluid components of a resin system. The nozzle is retained on the gun by a sliding breech which also pivotally supports a valve actuating trigger to be in an operative position when the breech is moved to retain a nozzle to the gun and disabled when the breech is moved to release the nozzle for reloading. The breech and trigger may be further arranged so that the trigger is inoperative in the absence of a nozzle on the gun.

  • Patent number: 4393964
Abstract: A hybrid power system and method in which a piston engine prime mover having a direct crank shaft power output is combined with a kinetic energy storing flywheel and a variable speed transmission in a manner such that the flywheel serves both as a crank shaft flywheel and as a supply of kinetic energy used to augment the power developed by the prime mover, as a substitute for prime mover developed power or as an auxiliary source of power for continued operation of prime mover driven accessories while the prime mover is shut off. The system enables the storage of kinetic energy resulting from the momentum of an inertial load such as an automotive vehicle and in doing so, conserves the kinetic energy of vehicular deceleration and enables engine shut-down during intermittent operation such as operation of an automotive vehicle under city driving conditions. The variable speed transmission is preferably an infinitely variable or I.V.

  • Patent number: 4378708
Abstract: A biconical torque body construction for traction drive transmissions in which a pair of hollow cone members, telescopically joined at the base or large diameter ends thereof for relative axial movement, are keyed or otherwise prevented for rotation relative to each other. A torque member is supported centrally within the hollow cone members with freedom of movement axially and rotatably relative to both cone members and constitutes the sole connection of the body for torque transmission to a transmission unit output load. The torque member carries one side of a ramp system cooperable with at least one of the cone members so that torque transmission between the cone members and the torque member will develop an axial force acting to separate the two cone members on the axis of the biconical body and proportional to the output torque load imposed on the body. The torque member is compression-resistant at least for that portion of its length between the ramp system and one of the cone members.
