Abstract: Method and system for detecting abnormal situations of a person in a living place. One such method involves: receiving information provided by a sensor carried by the person, which information relates to at least one vital variable of the person, receiving information originating from a series of motion sensors provided at various locations in the living place, and comparing said information with predetermined rules involving timeouts established as a function of the location and of the period of the day, or else different timeouts depending on whether an anomaly has been detected at the level of the vital variable, or else according to a common process relaunched upon each arrival in a new location although no abnormal situation exists, and in response to the previous step, triggering or otherwise a signalling of abnormal situation. Application in particular to the telesurveillance of the elderly, with improved discrimination between normal, anomalous and alert situations.

Abstract: Particles conveying a code are incorporated into polymer matrix to form a core document substrate. These particles may be colored to create a distinctive look of the document that makes it unique for a particular document issuer and enables visual authentication. Addition of a covert attribute to the particle, such as a UV pigment or hidden layer of material, allows a covert, forensic characteristic and it also allows a mathematical description to be calculated describing the random distribution of a specific area on a document and then captured on it (e.g., in the bar code or magnetic stripe or digital watermark on an ID document).
Abstract: An apparatus for playing a game comprising a playing surface having a first area and a second area, a projectile, and at least two propulsion devices. Abstract: A bit for removing a broken fastener comprises a tip from which extend two or more notches separated by traction or biting surfaces formed from two-sided frusto-conically-shaped regions. The surfaces are bounded on one side by a nonlinear cutting edge and on the other side by a non-cutting edge and are configured to cut into the fastener when the bit is rotated in a direction opposite to the fastener's direction of engagement. Specific embodiments include configurations where the cutting edges extend at different angles with respect to the bit axis, where the biting surfaces comprise a plurality of serrations, and where the cutting edges are separated by flutes which spiral along a longitudinally extending periphery of the bit.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for performing deterministic processing on a non-deterministic computer system. In one example, the system forces execution of one or more computer instructions to execute within a constant execution time. A deterministic engine, if necessary, waits a variable amount of time to ensure that the execution of the computer instructions is performed over the constant execution time. Because the execution time is constant, the execution is deterministic and therefore may be used in applications requiring deterministic behavior. For example, such a deterministic engine may be used in automated test equipment (ATE) applications.

Abstract: A network provider can receive a request, via a first mobile device and a mobile wireless telephone network, for access to a wireless network secured with at least one encryption key and implemented by at least one wireless access point. In response to the request, the network provider can associate the first mobile device with a user account of a user and can provide a token to a registrar and to the first mobile device via the mobile wireless telephone network. Abstract: A device for lighting a room is described. The device has an envelope with a transparent face, the face having an interior surface coated with a cathodoluminescent screen and a thin, reflective, conductive, anode layer. There is a broad-beam electron gun mounted directly to feedthroughs in a base of the envelope with a heated, button-on-hairpin, cathode for emitting electrons in a broad beam towards the anode, and a power supply mounted on the feedthroughs at the base of the envelope that drives the cathode to a multi-kilovolt negative voltage. A two-prong snubber serves as an anode contact to permit the power supply to drive the anode to a voltage near ground. A method of manufacture of the anode uses a single step deposition and lacquering process followed by a metallization using a conical-spiral tungsten filament coated with aluminum by a thermal spray coating process.

Abstract: A well logging fluid, and methods of using the same, include a base fluid selected from water, water-based mud, or oil-based mud, and an additive material selected from silica or cork or alike. The fluid has an impedance substantially different from that of the base fluid. Such a modified impedance helps improve the measurement accuracy.
