Abstract: The invention is a method for printing a color proof from an initial halftone bitmap file (10) having individual dots (10a, 10b, 10c, 10d) using a spatial filter (20) which is created from a calibration curve (30) for a printing press (380). The method further consists of sending an initial halftone bitmap file consisting of individual dots to the spatial filter creating a filtered output (40), quantizing the filtered output from the spatial filter to “n” levels to create a quantized image (50), transmitting the quantized image to a color printer (70), and printing a halftone color proof (80) on the color printer.
Abstract: A process of depositing a coating system suitable for use as an environmental barrier coating on various substrate materials, particularly those containing silicon and intended for high temperature applications such as the hostile thermal environment of a gas turbine engine. The process comprises depositing a first coating layer containing mullite, and preferably a second coating layer of an alkaline earth aluminosilicate, such as barium-strontium-aluminosilicate (BSAS), by thermal spraying while maintaining the substrate at a temperature of 800° C. or less, preferably 500° C. or less, by which a substantially crack-free coating system is produced with desirable mechanical integrity.

Abstract: Means are provided for recording, storing, calculating, communicating and reviewing one or more operational aspects of a machine. Insurance costs are based, in part, on activities of the machine operator. A discount may be provided in exchange for recording the operational aspects and providing the recorded information to the insurer. The party may review information and decide whether to provide it to the insurer. The means for reviewing may present comparative information. Information that causes insurance costs to vary may be highlighted. Provided data may be used to verify insurance application information, generate actuarial information or determine insurance rates. Operating data may be reviewed on a computer, a Web site or other display medium so a party can observe how his operating behavior compares to that of other operators of similar machines and may be manipulated so a party can understand how changes in operating behavior can affect his insurance rates.

Abstract: A device that provides resistance to the wheels of a children's toy. The device includes an axle with a first wheel attached to one end of the axle and a second wheel attached to a second end of the axle. A cam with an outwardly extending lever is positioned on the axle adjacent to one of the wheels. The lever rotates the cam which brings the cam closer to the wheel thereby increasing the rolling resistance of the wheel.

Abstract: A method of forming triple poly silicon split gate flash memory cell comprising of select gate, floating gate, and control gate having the three poly-silicon gates fully aligned with each other is described. High-resolution select-gate poly-silicon-1 is patterned using I-line lithography and resist instead of deep UV (DUV) lithography resist, as is normally used in prior art, which reduces cost of fabrication. Further, the triple poly-silicon structure is etched in a self-aligned manner and also provided with dielectric spacers in the source and drain contact regions prior to forming silicided metal contacts. Self-aligned etching in conjunction with dielectric spacers provide electrical isolation on the drain side and prevent potential bridging between select-gate poly silicon-1 and the drain.

Abstract: In general, techniques are described that allow an abrasive manufacturing process to achieve a controlled performance parameter, e.g., an amount of material removal, without requiring the use of feedback controls within the abrasive manufacturing process. For example, a system includes a machine to abrade a workpiece with an abrasive article, and a controller to control the application of the abrasive article to the workpiece by the machine to achieve a substantially constant cut rate for the abrasive article. The controller controls one or more process variables in accordance with an open-loop mathematical model that relates the cut rate of the abrasive article to an application force of the abrasive article to achieve controlled material removal. For example, a constant rate of cut can be achieved or a fixed amount of material can be removed while abrading one or more workpiece in accordance with the model.
Abstract: A method for making chlorine dioxide, by passing an aqueous feed solution comprising sodium chlorite into a non-membrane electrolysis cell comprising an anode and a cathode, adjacent to the anode, while flowing electrical current between the anode and the cathode to electrolyze the aqueous feed solution and convert the halogen dioxide salt to halogen dioxide. The anode is preferably a porous anode through which the aqueous feed solution passes to maximize the conversion of chlorite to chlorine dioxide.

Abstract: Scanner software obtains image data from a scanner device and stores the data to a file storage, and in response to an instruction received from a user reads via the scanner device or accesses to the file storage portion to obtain image data and transfers the data to an application. This can eliminate the necessity of again reading image data once read via the scanner device and the image data, stored in the file storage portion, can be taken in to the application.

Abstract: A method for producing a flexible polyurethane foam in an open state, which comprises reacting a polyol with a polyisocyanate compound in the presence of a catalyst, a blowing agent and a foam stabilizer, wherein as the polyol, a polyol having a hydroxyl value of at most 15 mgKOH/g is used.
Abstract: A process is provided for the preparation of anhydrosugar alcohols. The process involves heating a sugar alcohol or a monoanhydrosugar alcohol starting material in the presence of an acid catalyst, and subsequent purification of the anhydrosugar alcohol. In some embodiments of the present invention, film evaporators are used in distillation and purification of the anhydrosugar alcohols. Anhydrosugar alcohols of very high purity are achieved in the practice of the present invention. In some embodiments of the present invention, very high purities of the anhydrosugar alcohols are achieved without the use of organic solvents.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for selecting a statistical tool or technique to solve data driven user problems. Using a hierarchical decision logic flowdown structure, the user makes progressive data type selections. Selection expansions are offered to the user, based on the data type selections. The selections of the user result in selection of a web-based statistical software tool. Data can be input to the web-based statistical software tool, and an analysis of the most frequently encountered technical problems in industry, business and teaching environments, is made. This all results in the expeditious and proper statistical solution to a problem, based on the data driven selections.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for inspecting cooling holes of a completed, lasered, and deburred turbine airfoil. The cooling holes are covered with a very porous tape before placing the turbine airfoil into an air fixture that has a metered amount of fluorescent liquid dripped into the airline. The atomized fluorescent liquid flows through the turbine airfoil internal cavities, exiting through the open cooling holes, where it is absorbed by the porous tape. A pattern will appear on the tape surface, in the area of the open holes, indicative of the presence of not-through or plugged cooling holes.

Abstract: This invention provides a memory array and its peripheral circuit with byte-erase capability. The advantage of this invention is the ability to access bytes for program, erase, and read operations. This invention allows this access with the addition of one word line switch and one source line switch for each byte to be accessed for program, erase, and read operations. Also, this invention utilizes a new bias condition to lessen the voltage stress on the high voltage device. In addition, this invention utilizes separate and dedicated power supplies for the local word line driver circuits and for the local source line driver circuits. This is coupled with the partitioning of the main memory array into sub-arrays of 8 columns. This allows the placing of high voltage only on the selected 8 column (byte) subarray. This also substantially lessens the voltage stress on the memory cells and enhances long-term reliability.
