  • Patent number: 8660400
Abstract: When a power source 22 is turned on, recording management information is obtained from a recording medium 70 and the obtained recording management information is analyzed. Whether or not recording of new image data on the recording medium 70 is possible is determined, based on the analysis result. If it is determined that recording the new image data on the recording medium 70 is possible, reception of recording start input that allows the image generation unit and the media management section respectively to generate and record the new image data generation of the new image data by an image generation unit 104 and recording of the new image data on the recording medium 70 is permitted.

  • Patent number: 8659685
Abstract: The invention includes methods and apparatus for correcting shading non-uniformity in camera systems. A method includes capturing at least two sets of flatfield images from at least two sets of camera modules under first and second illuminant, respectively. Pixels for each image in the sets of flatfield images are then averaged to form first and second averaged flatfield images, respectively. The first averaged flatfield image is transformed using the second averaged flatfield image to create a transform image. The transform image is then saved in memory for calibrating the shading non-uniformity of the camera module.

  • Patent number: 8661412
Abstract: An application for which approval is requested is identified and multiple automated tests are applied to the application in groups of automated tests. Each of the groups of automated tests includes multiple ones of the multiple automated tests. If one or more automated tests in a group of automated tests returns an inconclusive result, then a manual check is initiated for the application based on the one or more automated tests that returned the inconclusive result. If one or more automated tests in a group, or a manual test applied in the manual check, returns a fail result then an indication that the application is rejected is returned, the indication that the application is rejected including an identification of why the application is rejected. If none of the multiple automated tests returns a fail result, then a manual testing phase is initiated.

  • Patent number: 8661449
Abstract: Computations are performed on shared datasets in a distributed computing cluster using aggressive speculation and a distributed runtime that executes code transactionally. Speculative transactions are conducted with currently available data on the assumption that no dependencies exist that will render the input data invalid. For those specific instances where this assumption is found to be incorrect—that the input data did indeed have a dependency (thereby impacting the correctness of the speculated transaction)—the speculated transaction is aborted and its results (and all transactions that relied on its results) are rolled-back accordingly for re-computation using updated input data. In operation, shared state data is read and written using only the system's data access API which ensures that computations can be rolled-back when conflicts stemming from later-determined dependencies are detected.

  • Publication number: 20140050475
Abstract: Computing bus devices that enable quantum information to be coherently transferred between topological and conventional qubits are disclosed. A concrete realization of such a topological quantum bus acting between a topological qubit in a Majorana wire network and a conventional semiconductor double quantum dot qubit is described. The disclosed device measures the joint (fermion) parity of the two different qubits by using the Aharonov-Casher effect in conjunction with an ancillary superconducting flux qubit that facilitates the measurement. Such a parity measurement, together with the ability to apply Hadamard gates to the two qubits, allows for the production of states in which the topological and conventional qubits are maximally entangled, and for teleporting quantum states between the topological and conventional quantum systems.

  • Publication number: 20140052647
Abstract: The present invention enables people to propose campaigns for crowd-source funding intended to label some public claim as bogus or to label some public claim that's being widely denied as true. A fee and several inputs are required to submit the proposed campaign application for vetting, review, editing and approval. Approved campaigns are published on a website so people can find them and contribute to them. A cash bounty is offered as a reward to any challenger who can refute (falsify) the campaign message. A fee and several inputs are required to submit a challenge for evaluation and decision. Challenges are processed sequentially until one is sustained (upheld as proving the campaign position is wrong), or until the campaign duration expires. When a challenge is sustained, the bounty is paid to the challenger, other pending challenges are closed and their fees are returned, and the campaign ends as “falsified” (“unsuccessful”).
