Abstract: A binding or boot strap is provided that allows a rider to easily, rapidly and/or effectively tighten and/or loosen the strap about his or her boot. The strap includes a boot-engaging strap portion that engages with an engagement strap coupleable to the boot, as may be the case with boots used for step-in bindings, or to the binding, as may be the case with strap-type bindings. An arrangement for facilitating tightening/loosening of the two strap pieces so that a rider can slip his or her foot into or out from the boot or fasten the boot to or loosen it from a snowboard binding is also provided. In one embodiment, this arrangement includes a tightening element, such as for example a cord, lace or strap, suitably coupled to one or both strap portions such that a rider can pull on the tightening element to move the strap pieces relative to each other and tighten the strap.

Abstract: A flash real time operating system for embedded applications employing flash memory is capable of storing and accessing individual bytes of data corresponding to a particular logical address in real time. The operating system writes data bytes to sequential physical blocks within the flash memory. Physical blocks written with data bytes corresponding to the same logical address are connected by a linked list, which is dynamically modified to reduce access times required to read and write data to the flash memory. The operating system also monitors the number of physical blocks written with data within each physical sector. When one physical sector reaches its storage capacity, the operating system transfers the physical blocks holding valid data from the old physical sector to a new, previously erased physical sector.
Abstract: A system and method of conducting resource flow control sessions in a computer network comprises sending a resource request from a client computer to a server computer; assigning to the client computer a flow control window, wherein a size of a flow control window is based on resources available to the server computer and a level of activity of a corresponding client computer, wherein the server computer is in any of a busy and idle state of activity; determining whether to change the size of the flow control window upon receiving the resource request based on the level of activity of the corresponding client computer and a current utilization of resources during a particular session of use; tracking a number of active sessions of use of the resources in a predetermined time window; and maintaining the flow control window with a maximum queue size per number of sessions value.

Abstract: A high speed data communication system uses a single-ended bus architecture with a reference signal extracted from a differential periodic signal that is transmitted along with single-ended data. By using a periodic signal such a clock signal with approximately 50% duty cycle, a much more stable and accurate reference signal is established for receiving single-ended data.
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a dye material which can be employed in short-wavelength optical recording media, while being excellent in solubility to solvents. The dye material in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention contains a cyanine compound and an azo compound. The cyanine compound contains at least a trimethinecyanine compound in which an aromatic structure including two nitrogen-containing heterocyclic rings is combined to a trimethine group. At least one of the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic rings includes a benzyl group which may have a substituent, while at least one of them includes an organic group having a carbon number of 2 to 30 substituted by a nitrogen atom. The azo compound contains at least a chelate compound of a compound containing an azo group and a metal.
Abstract: Distributed caching and download of file. A method is described that includes building a peer list comprising a listing of potential peer servers from among one or more networked computers. The peer list includes no more than a predetermined number of potential peer servers. Potential peer servers in the peer list are queried for a file or portion of a file. A message from a peer server in the peer list is received indicating that the peer server has the file or portion of a file available for download. The computer system downloads the file or portion of a file from the peer server.

Abstract: A method of dividing a non-metal substrate having a first surface and a second surface formed parallel to the first surface, comprising: a deteriorated layer forming step for forming a deteriorated layer in the inside of the non-metal substrate along dividing lines by applying a laser beam capable of passing through the non-metal substrate from the first surface side with its converging point on the inside thereof; and a deteriorated layer exposing step for exposing the deteriorated layer to the first surface by grinding the first surface side of the non-metal substrate having the deteriorated layer formed therein.
Abstract: An apparatus having and method of forming grooves in the surface of a substrate adjacent and parallel to sidewall locations for circuit chips or die mounted on the surface. The grooves have physical dimensions to retain fill material formed between the packages and the surface of the substrate so that the fill material does not bridge between chips, thus reducing warping of the substrate due to mismatches in coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) between the fill material, the substrate, the chips, and mold material formed over the substrate, under fill, and chips.

Abstract: An exercise treadmill is disclosed which includes various features to enhance user operation and to reduce maintenance costs. These features include handlebars with an upwardly curved center section and outwardly flared side portions along with pivoting rear legs for the treadmill frame. The control panel features include snap-in user trays and an overlay covering the numerical key pad along with an auxiliary control panel having a subset of user controls that are larger and more easy to use than the same controls on the main control panel. Maintenance enhancing features include the provision for access panels in the treadmill housing and a belt lubrication system that uses a priming pulse to clear the wax spraying nozzle along with using treadmill operating criteria for scheduling and operating the lubrication system. For injection molded parts such as the control panel, structural strength is enhanced by utilizing gas-assist injection molding to form structural ribs.

Abstract: Each front sensor senses a load, which is applied to a front part of a seat, and each rear sensor senses a load, which is applied to a rear part of the seat. A size of an entire load sensing range of each front sensor is smaller than a size of an entire load sensing range of each rear sensor.
Abstract: Fabrication of far infrared photoconductor arrays, especially for low background astronomy, is particularly challenging due to arrays' relatively large pixel size, susceptibility to stray radiation, and the requirement for low bias levels. A hybrid-far infrared photoconductor array as presented, provides a system and method for the development of large-format far IR arrays. The hybrid-far infrared array is provided with a blocking layer, situated in between a detecting layer and a readout layer, which allows detection of far infrared signals without complications based on readout glow. In particular, the readout glow, detector heating, and thermal mismatch between the readout and the detecting layer are addressed by careful selection of the materials for the blocking layer. The blocking layer is provided with an array of conductive vias passing through the bulk of the blocking layer in order to efficiently transmit electrical signals between the detecting layer and the readout layer.
