Abstract: A portable fire extinguishing device capable of suppressing a fire in a room or other enclosed area comprises a housing containing a pyrotechnic composition and a delay fuze. Upon initiation, the pyrotechnic composition burns and generates combustion byproducts that include an inorganic halogen compound that is dispersed as a aerosol of fine particles, or a gas that rapidly condenses into an aerosol of fine particles, the particle size of which is so small that the free-fall velocity of the particles is less than the average air currents in the room. Accordingly, the fire suppression aerosol remains suspended for several hours to act as a fire suppressant and because of its persistence will seek out and suppress even hidden fires.

Abstract: A method for estimating future cash flows of an investment instrument (or portfolio of investment instruments) is performed by simulating past performance (i.e., cash flows similar instruments based on actual data of past performance, using the simulated past performance to generate a distribution of possible future performance outcomes of the investment instrument, and using the distribution of possible future performance outcomes to make estimates of the expected cash flow from the investment instrument. In one embodiment, cash flow time series of private equity funds (J-curves) are simulated for fully-liquidated vintage years by scaling an aggregate net cash flow time series from a plurality of fully liquidated funds for that vintage year. The time series is scaled by scalar coefficients calculated based on statistics of the four parameters, internal rate of return, money multiple, depth of curve, and speed to depth, of the aggregated vintage fund J-curves.

Abstract: A method and system for controlling a horizontal directional drilling machine having a boring tool. A rate of rotation and a rate of thrust are selected by an operator. Controls allow an automatic boring operation mode to be initiated to maintain the selected rate of rotation and thrust without further input from the operator. Periodically, when the rotation and thrust are interrupted, such as to modify the drill string, the automatic boring operation mode is interrupted. The automatic boring operation mode may be resumed without requiring the operator to select the rate of rotation and rate of thrust. The rate of rotation is resumed before the rate of thrust to reduce drill string shock loads and increase drilling performance.

The process adds a new translation rule in a compiler and modifies the AD specification of a unified modeling language (UML) to accordingly translate the source codes into the AD and present the programming logic and executing flow of the source codes in a visualization form. In addition, the process can translate the high level programming language into a unified format for representation, and the AD can benefit simulation and requirement in a following HDL translation.

Abstract: A steam turbine nozzle singlet having a blade or airfoil between inner and outer sidewalls is provided. The sidewalls include steps or flanges which are received in complementary recesses in the rings enabling axially short low heat input welds e.g., e-beam welds. These complementary steps and recesses mechanically interlock the singlet between the rings preventing displacement of the singlet in the event of weld failure. The low heat input welds minimize or eliminate distortion of the nozzle flow path. Additional features on the singlets, provide a datum for milling machines to form singlets of different sizes.

  • Publication number: 20070164835
Abstract: Multi-phase clocks are used to encode and decode signals that are phase-modulated. The input signal is phase-compared with a feedback clock. Phase differences increment or decrement an up/down counter. The count value from the up/down counter is applied to a phase rotator, which selects one clock phase from a bank of multi-phase clocks. The multi-phase clocks have the same frequency, but are offset in phase from each other. An output divider divides the selected multi-phase clock to generate a phase-modulated output. A feedback divider divides a fixed-phase clock from the multi-phase clocks to generate the feedback clock. An analog or a digital front-end may be used to convert analog inputs to digital signals to increment or decrement the counter, or to encode multiple digital bits as phase assignments. For a de-modulator, a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) or a digital decoder produces the final output from the count of the up/down counter.
