  • Patent number: 5393686
Abstract: A new method of forming a high quality silicon oxide under a gate electrode for an integrated circuit is described. A gate silicon oxide layer is formed for the gate electrode. A blockout mask is provided for all areas of the integrated circuit not requiring an ion implant. The ion implant is implanted through the gate silicon oxide layer into those areas not covered by the blockout mask. The blockout mask is removed. The gate silicon oxide layer is cleaned to improve the electrical breakdown and charge breakdown characteristics to the state they were before the mask and ion implanting steps by a) treating the gate silicon oxide layer with ammonia and peroxide fluid in the concentration NH.sub.4 OH:H.sub.2 O.sub.2 :H.sub.2 O=(0.4-1):1:5.5 for between about 3 to 7 minutes at a temperature of between about 60.degree. to 80.degree. C. and b) subjecting the gate silicon oxide layer to an atmosphere of C.sub.2 H.sub.2 Cl.sub.2 and excess oxygen at a temperature of between about 775.degree. to 875.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5392599
Abstract: Engine air/fuel ratio is controlled in response to a comparison of an exhaust gas oxygen sensor output with a reference value. A correction voltage is generated which is related to a change in the midpoint between saturated output states of the sensor during a test period in which engine air/fuel operation is first forced rich and then forced lean of a preselected air/fuel ratio. The sensor output amplitude is shifted with the correction voltage to reduce variations between the reference value and the midpoint.

  • Patent number: 5393905
Abstract: This invention relates to a four step process for purifying amido-carboxylic acids by liquid/liquid extraction from a reaction mixture containing an amido-carboxylic acid. The first step involves distilling impurities from a reaction mixture containing an amido-carboxylic acid to form a distillate residue. The second step involves mixing the distillate residue with a nonpolar hydrocarbon solvent wherein the mixture is maintained above the freezing point of the distillate residue. The third step involves allowing the hydrocarbon solvent and distillate residue to achieve phase separation of an organic phase containing the amido-carboxylic acid and an organic phase containing the nonpolar hydrocarbon solvent. The fourth step involves separating the organic phase containing the nonpolar hydrocarbon solvent from the organic phase containing the amido-carboxylic acid.

  • Patent number: 5394227
Abstract: A compliant hard fusing pressure roller for reducing media curl and wave in electrophotographic printers as part of an improved fuser apparatus. The improved fuser consists of the standard components of a fuser, namely of a heated fuser roller and one or more pressure rollers. The pressure roller is constructed with a central rotation shaft with a cylindrical deformable material such as silicone rubber is formed around the central rotation shaft. However, a cylindrical hard outer shell is formed around the deformable material. The compliant hard pressure roller exerts a tangential force toward the fuser roller. Because the outer hard shell of the compliant hard pressure roller is formed from a malleable type material, it provides some compliance and therefor deforms slightly from roundness for small, sharp errors in the fuser roller or media.

  • Patent number: 5392859
Abstract: The present invention is a method to improve permeability of a formation in the vicinity of a production wellbore. An acid treatment composition is placed in the formation after a foaming composition is injected and a foam created from the foaming composition, thus forcing the acid treatment composition into less permeable strata. The foaming composition contains a sulfate surfactant as a foam stabilization agent. The sulfate hydrolyzes after a time period that is long enough to permit placement of the acid treatment composition. After the sulfate hydrolyzes, it becomes ineffective as a surfactant. Fluids produced from the formation after the acid treatment according to the present invention therefore do not contain significant concentrations of active surfactants, and therefore do not create foams or emulsions in surface separation equipment.

  • Patent number: 5394269
Abstract: The invention relates to a reflectance reducing silicon dioxide film formed on a glass substrate by the sol-gel process. To make the film minutely rough, at least two sols are respectively prepared from at least one compound selected from the group consisting of silicon alkoxides and silicon acetylacetonates, such that polymers of the sols have different average molecular weights. Then, the at least two sols are mixed with a solvent so as to prepare a coating solution. The coating solution is applied to the glass substrate so as to form a sol film on the glass substrate. The thus coated glass substrate is heated so as to transform the sol film into a gel film. The gel film which is minutely rough is satisfactory in reflectance reduction.
