  • Patent number: 4409177
Abstract: A wraparound closure article comprising a slit tubular body having upstanding rails extending along the slit is formed by a combination of blow-and compression-moulding. The rails are formed by compressing a longitudinal edge portion of a parison between two parts of a closed split-mould to form a flange, and the tubular body is formed integrally with the rails by blowing the remainder of the parison into contact with the closed mould. The flange is then cut to provide the slit of the wraparound closure article and to divide the flange into two discrete rails. The slit extends along the pinch-line that forms as a result of compressing the edge portion of the parison in the closed mould.

  • Patent number: 4407087
Abstract: A method for attaching detachable snells to a fishing line while the line system is being set out from a moving vessel at sea. The snell and the line have cooperating coupling members consisting of a peg with stop studs rotatably attached to the line and a radially elastic ring attached to the snell, the ring being detachably fastened to the peg by being pressed down into a locked position behind the stop studs. The line is drawn through an apparatus having a peg orienting means, and the pegs pass a discharge opening on a ring magazine where each peg is brought into engagement with the central opening of a discharged ring and carries the ring along with it to pass between two converging surfaces whereby the ring is pressed down into a locked position on the peg. The converging surfaces consist of a pressure surface for the ring provided with a guide/clearance groove for the peg, and a backstop surface for the peg.

  • Patent number: 4408185
Abstract: An arrangement for transferring both power and information on one or more common AC power lines in which a first type of information is transmitted by terminating the current from the power supply in periods which constitute a fraction of a halfwave cycle. The transmission of this first type of information is dependent upon the frequency of the AC power supply. A second type of information is transmitted during the periods in which the current from the power supply is terminated, and the second type of information is transmitted at a higher frequency independent of that of the AC power supply.

  • Patent number: 4405855
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for regulating the power which is supplied to a heating element (2) in a water heater (1), preferably a reservoir water heater containing water which is to be heated to a certain temperature, the power which is supplied to the heating element for heating the water, is regulated not only in dependence on the temperature of the water (15), but also in dependence on the temperature of the heating element (2, 4), so that the temperature of the element is kept below a predetermined critical value. The temperature of the heating element is measured directly and/or indirectly, and when the temperature of the element is below the critical value and the temperature of the water in the water heater is below the rated value, maximum power can be supplied to the heating element.

  • Patent number: 4402165
Abstract: The opening and closing device permits simultaneous opening of for instance 100 m long roof hatches. Gear wheels are permanently mounted in housings on a transverse driving shaft at regular intervals. The gear wheels drive their respective rack for simultaneous displacement of the entire window. The cogs of the gear wheel have a larger width and are thin compared to the corresponding measurements of the rack cogs. In order to ensure the gear wheel mesh the rack comprises supporting surfaces engaging the cylindrical surfaces of the gear wheel and support rolls. This device ensures that the racks hinged to the window frames may be displaced along or turned about their engaging points with the gear wheel without disengaging said gear wheel, and in such a manner that squeezing is avoided in connection with the longitudinal stretching and shrinking of the shaft due to variations of the temperature.

  • Patent number: 4400994
Abstract: A first segment usually attached to a tractor is pivotally linked by a first bolt to a second pivotal segment. For example, which may be moved between an extended outward working position and a retracted, non-working inward position. A hydraulic cylinder and piston are mounted on the fixed segment and the free end of the piston is pivotally linked to the base of a substantially U-shaped member. One arm of the U-shaped member is pivotally linked to the fixed segment, and the other arm of the U-shaped member is pivotally linked to one end of a coupling member. The other end of the coupling member is pivotally linked to the pivotal segment. In the extended position, the arms of the U-shaped member pivot down wardly, and the end of the coupling member connected to the pivotal segment comes to rest between the arms of the U-shaped member in horizontal alignment with the links connecting the U-shaped member to the fixed segment and pivotal segment.

  • Patent number: 4401889
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for isolating and measuring the intensity of gamma radiation or other type of radioactive radiation from a radiation active deposit contained within a liquid sample, in which the measurement is performed in step with a previous isolation of a sample by an intermittent advance (10) of the sample from an isolation station to a measuring station. The measurement is made in step with the intermittent advance of the sample in a plurality of immediately succeeding partial measurements in a measuring unit which comprises a plurality of successively arranged radiation detectors (36) corresponding to a predetermined number of partial measurements. Each partial measurement constitutes a part of the total measurement of the same corresponding to the step of advance. The measuring results from the individual partial measurements of the sample are summed up (60), and the sum is registered. The sample may be deposited on disc-shaped membrane filter carriers.
