Abstract: A portable communication device includes a status indictor in the form of a single multicolor generating LED. The single LED indicates radio channel and battery status. The LED is responsive to a menu button press to indicate a current channel by color. Channel change is indicated by changing to another color. The LED is also responsive to a power button on the portable communication device to generate predetermined colors associated with battery status. The use of a single LED eliminates the need for knobs or a display as part of the status indicator of the portable communication device.

Abstract: A method for creating and a device for a rotary switchable multi-core element, permanent magnet-based apparatus, for holding or lifting a target, comprised of two or more carrier platters, each containing a plurality of complementary first and second core elements. Each core element comprises permanent magnet(s) with magnetically matched soft steel pole conduits attached to the north and south poles of the magnet(s). Core elements are oriented within adjacent carrier platters such that relative rotation allows for alignment in-phase or out-of-phase of the magnetic north and south fields within the pole conduits. Aligning a first core element “in-phase” with a second core element, that is, north-north/south-south, activates that core element pair, allowing the combined magnetic fields of the pole conduits to be directed into a target. Aligning the core element pair “out-of-phase,” that is, north-south/south-north, deactivates that core element pair by containing opposing fields within the pole conduits.

This allows for support for client devices having differing computing capabilities. Natural language operations can also be supported as desired. A user can thus interact with content also accessible at a web page and select items of interest using speech as a mode of input. Dynamic grammars can assist in the recognition operations to improve speed and comprehension.

Abstract: A recovery system for a computer operating system and applications is described which uses selectable and configurable snapshots. In one example, a start-up sequence of the computer system is initiated, a plurality of snapshots in a hidden section of a mass storage device are identified before loading an operating system for the computer system, each snapshot containing an operating system, applications, and computer system configuration settings. One of the plurality of snapshots is booted including loading the operating system and applications of the one snapshot, and the start-up sequence is completed.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a display section, a storage section, and a continuation reception section. The display section displays a plurality of setting items, and the setting items relate to only one of the plurality of functions. The storage section stores a single or plurality of groups of setting items relating to a function in a time-series manner. The continuation reception section receives an option of whether or not the provided function is continuously executed. When receiving the option, the continuation reception section causes the display section to display the group of the setting items and to display the history data in a list to select one from the single or plurality of groups of the setting items. When receiving the option for not continuously executing the provided function, the continuation reception section initializes setting of the provided function and clears all the history data.

Abstract: A system monitors parameters (e.g., speed, position, threshold boundaries) of mobile items attached to beacons and produces signals indicating these parameters. The system also monitors non-mobile parameters (e.g., battery life, door locks, windows) in the items. Different technologies (e.g., wireless) are provided for communicating between the beacons and a beacon controller interface. Different technologies are provided for locating and indicating item positions. The beacons and the interface provide for new beacons to be added to the system with different characteristics than the existing beacons for monitoring the operation of new beacons without affecting the operation of existing beacons. The system includes resellers, retailers, users and subscribers in a flexible relationship to enhance the ease in the system operation. Beacons can perform more than one function (e.g. tracking, threshold monitoring) simultaneously. Scenarios for the beacons can be created and monitored.

Abstract: A portable medical waste processing system and method includes a processing device and a medical waste container. The processing device has an enclosure with a housing and a lid, with at least one heater, a control system, a filtration system and a cooling system inside the enclosure. The control system regulates the temperature of the heater and time of the process cycle. The filtration system prevents noxious odors emanating from the container during the process cycle. The cooling system prevents heat build-up inside the enclosure and also ensures that the sides of the enclosure do not exceed harmful temperatures. The portable medical waste processing system melts syringes and sterilize needles, lancets and infectious waste that are placed in the medical waste container that is inserted into the heater. The system identifies and responses to short and long term power interruptions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for delivering repetitive jarring impacts to a stuck object downhole. The jarring tool is deployed on coiled tubing or other tubular well conduit, and fluid pressure is used to cycle the jar without reciprocating the well conduit at the wellhead. A hydraulic reset assembly is included. The hydraulic chamber is in fluid communication with the flow path through the tool. Thus, when the internal fluid pressure inside the tool exceeds the external pressure in the well, the fluid pressure drives the piston in the hydraulic chamber to urge the tool toward the contracted position. In this way, the reset assembly can overcome the tendency of fluid pressure to extend the tool. The reset assembly can be configured to equalize the extension pressure, to prevent undesired cocking of the tool, or to overcome the extension pressure to contract the tool for recocking the jar mechanism.
