  • Patent number: 6162013
Abstract: An arrangement to regulate the flow of steam extracted intermediately from a steam turbine and to induce a steam flow, between separate turbine parts, in a direction that is essentially axial with respect to the rotational direction of the turbine rotor. The steam turbine consists of two turbine parts separated by a partition wall and has an intermediate steam extraction outlet located between the first turbine part and the partition wall. Steam may pass between the two turbine parts through a passage, within the partition wall, having an externally controlled valve used to regulate the steam flow. The valve is configured to reduce the external force needed to control its position. Together, the valve and passage are configured to minimize the pressure loss and turbulence of the steam flow as it passes between the two turbine parts so that the steam flow pressure on the second turbine part is maximized.

  • Patent number: 5971018
Abstract: A valve device for influencing an overpressurized flow of media comprises a control valve for controlling the flow of media, and a closing valve which is either totally open or totally closed to stop the flow. The valves are arranged in a common valve housing and can seal independently of each other against a common valve seat. The valve seat presents an outlet side which forms the outlet channel of the valve device. The valve device can be made compact, and the number of necessary redirections of the flow of media is minimized.

  • Patent number: 5564897
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for mounting an axial turbo-machine, preferably a low-pressure compressor for a gas turbine, constructed without a parting line with a whole or constructed rotor. From the design point of view, problems arise regarding the mounting of the stationary guide vane rings in the case of a design without a parting line and a whole rotor. The problem is solved by dividing the guide vane rings into sectors in a number greater than two. These sectors are brought radially into position and are guided and fixed in the correct position by guide rings which are applied around each guide vane ring composed from sectors. Each composed guide vane ring with the surrounding guide ring is guided and fixed to the preceding guide ring and all the guide vane rings are successively built up around the whole or constructed rotor. The guide rings mounted together constitute a stiff annular element.

  • Patent number: 5464318
Abstract: The present invention relates to a control system for controlling injection and extraction of steam in a steam turbine (1), the same valves (5,6) being used both for injection of steam to the turbine (1) and for extraction of steam from the turbine (1) . The valves (5, 6) commonly used for injection and extraction are controlled to be timely opened and closed in dependence on the pressure conditions at injection points (2,3) and extraction points (2,3), respectively, in the turbine and on the pressure (P3) prevailing in a process network connected to the valves (5, 6) such that injected or extracted steam is utilized in an optimal manner.

  • Patent number: 5347936
Abstract: A method and a device for preheating a particulate fluidized bed which is supplied with air for fluidization of bed material and for combustion of main fuel through gas paths that include fluidization members for injection and distribution of the air over the fluidized bed. The bed material is preheated to the ignition temperature for the main fuel used in the fluidized bed by members arranged in the gas paths for combustion of starting fuel. These members are designed and arranged so that the air is supplied to the fluidized bed along the same path through gas paths and fluidization members upon preheating with starting fuel as upon combustion of main fuel in the fluidized bed. The members for combustion of starting fuel are arranged in the fluidization members and comprise fuel injectors, fuel pipes, ignition members and control members.

  • Patent number: 5335630
Abstract: In a method and device for controlling power output during combustion in a pressurized fluidized bed, energy developed is taken out by heat transfer surfaces and a gas turbine, and heat is utilized in a steam turbine. The heat transfer surfaces include a high pressure section with one evaporator and a low pressure section with at least one intermediate superheater. In case of changes in the power output, the bed depth of the fluidized bed is varied, whereby heat transfer surfaces included in the evaporator are exposed or covered by the bed and production of high pressure steam, evaporation power, is controlled. Heat taken from the fluidized bed is controlled by controlling the temperature difference between the bed and low pressure stream flowing in the intermediate superheaters. High pressure steam, produced in the evaporator is superheated in a heat exchanger arranged outside the bed by low pressure steam from the intermediate superheaters before it is expanded in a high pressure steam turbine.

  • Patent number: 5297622
Abstract: A method is provided for cooling of particulate material from a combustion plant, especially intended for cooling of fine-grained dust which has been separated from the flue gases from a PFBC power plant, and in which the material is transported pneumatically with the flue gas as transport means. A cooler is provided at the inlet of which there is a space for separation of the particulate material from the transport gas. The transport gas is removed via a gas cleaner. The particulate material is collected in a duct where it forms a particulate column. The duct includes cooling modules, suitably water-cooled, which cool the material on its way down through the duct. The duct comprises devices for the supply of a gas for stirring the material in the duct while the remaining flue gas is being separated from the particulate column.

  • Patent number: 5244285
Abstract: Squeeze film damper with a viscous damping agent between two concentric cylindrical surfaces (5) on the internal (3) and external (6) parts, respectively, of the damper. The clearance between these two surfaces (5) is supplied with a viscous damping agent, usually oil, from a groove (4) in the cylindrical surface on the internal part (3) of the damper. This groove (4) does not extend all around. In the lower part of the internal part (3) of the damper there are instead two pockets (7) which are separated from each other and from the long damper oil groove (4). When these two pockets (7) are supplied through channels (8) with oil of an adjusted pressure, a lifting force arises which acts on the internal part (3) of the damper so that this part and the associated shaft (1) are lifted and centered, whereupon during operation a damper clearance, extending all around, is obtained without mechanical means. • Patent number: 5241863
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the pressure within a fluid-conveying member of a mixture of a fluid and particulate solids comprises an outlet port in the fluid-conveying member, a buffer vessel having walls defining a buffer volume for containing a buffer medium, the buffer vessel having first and second end portions, and having a measuring outlet at the first end portion being in fluid communication with the outlet port of the fluid-conveying member. An impulse conduit has its first end in fluid communication with the second end portion of the buffer vessel and a fluid pressure measuring device is in fluid communication with the second end of the impulse conduit. A source of purging medium is in fluid communication with the second end portion of the buffer vessel. • Patent number: 5176089
Abstract: The invention relates to a power plant with combustion of a fuel at a pressure exceeding the atmospheric pressure in a fluidized bed (18) of particulate material, a so-called PFBC power plant. A combustor (12) is enclosed within a pressure vessel (10) and surrounded by compressed combustion air. Ash chambers (44) in the lower part of the combustor (12) are enclosed in one or more spaces (50) with walls (52, 53) which are suitably designed as plane, water-cooled panel walls. The ash chambers (44) are designed with uncooled walls (62). Pressure equalizing openings (64) are provided in the ash chamber walls (62), which openings equalize any pressure differences which may arise between the ash chambers (44) and the surrounding space (50). The walls (52, 53) which form the space surrounding the ash chambers absorb the pressure difference between the ash chambers (44) and the space (32) between the combustor (12) and the pressure vessel (10).

  • Patent number: 5146856
Abstract: In a power plant, for example of PFBC type, with a cooler for cooling of ashes originating in a fluidized bed, the cooler comprises a cylinder with a transport screw which transports the ashes through the cylinder. The transport screw has a tubular shaft which is transversed by cooling water. The cylinder may be air or water-cooled. At the bottom of the cylinder one or more fluidization devices are provided, which maintain the ashes in the cylinder in fluidized condition, so as to obtain good contact and effective heat transfer to cooling surfaces of the shaft and the cylinder. The fluidization also reduces the propensity of the ash to form a heat-insulating layer on the inside of the cylinder which reduces the cooling capacity.
