Abstract: An exemplary lighting system utilizes intelligent system elements, such as lighting devices, user interfaces for lighting control or the like and possibly sensors, and utilizes network communication amongst such intelligent system elements. Some processing functions performed within the system are implemented on a distributed processing basis, by two or more of the intelligent elements of the lighting system. Distributed processing, for example, may enable use of available processor and/or memory resources of a number of intelligent system elements to process a particular job. Another distributed processing approach might entail programming to configure two or more of the intelligent system elements to implement multiple instances of a server functionality with respect to client functionalities implemented on intelligent system elements.

  • Patent number: 8896924
Abstract: An improved tubular daylighting system comprises a plurality of tubular shaft sections connected to a skylight lens for transmitting light through the shaft sections to the interior of a building. Adjoining top and bottom shaft sections have different diameters to enable one to be inserted into the other, the top shaft section having a plurality of tabs, the bottom section having a plurality of slots which register with the tabs of the top shaft section, such that selectively bending the tabs outwardly or inwardly from the shaft wall of the top shaft section through the slots of the bottom shaft section interconnects the top and bottom shaft sections in coaxial alignment. In one embodiment an inverted dome diffuser is mounted below the skylight lens atop the shaft sections to diffuse light entering the shaft sections.

  • Publication number: 20140313718
Abstract: A shield for a light emitting diode (LED) luminaire includes a frame mountable to the LED luminaire such that the shield is removable therefrom. A plurality of rows of shield surfaces contact the frame and have a first side that faces a row of LEDs located on the LED luminaire and an opposite second side. The first side has a fully or partially reflective surface. The plurality of rows of shield surfaces prevent light from the LEDs from reflecting toward the back of the LED luminaire. The shield may include notches for allowing removal of one or more of the plurality of rows of shield surfaces or a portion thereof from the frame and for customization of light distribution from the LED luminaire. The shield may also be cut lengthwise such that each of the plurality of rows of shield surfaces includes a partial shield surface and shields only a portion of a row of LEDs located on the LED luminaire.

  • Patent number: 8854208
Abstract: Systems and methods for wirelessly detecting area changes are provided. Predetermined thresholds may be stored in memory. Each predetermined threshold is associated with a time of day, calendar day, and/or activity. The sensor may detect a change in the in the targeted area. The detected change is evaluated to determine an applicable threshold. Then it may be determined whether the detected change meets a predetermined threshold. If so, information regarding the change is wirelessly transmitted to an associated controller that controls light in the targeted area. The operation of the light may be controlled based on the wirelessly transmitted information.
