A paper guide is coupled to the stapler, the paper guide being movable between a recessed position within the base portion and an extended position. Insertion of the stack of sheets into the throat does not cause movement of the paper guide.

Abstract: A stapler includes one or more illuminated features that assist the user in guiding the stack of sheets into the stapler's throat for stapling. The illuminated features help the user intuitively position the stack of sheets in the throat to achieve the desired staple position on the stack of sheets.

The stapler is configured to be held in a single hand of the user and can be actuated by the user squeezing his or her hand while holding the stapler.

The stapler includes a base, a magazine for holding staples having a front portion, and a staple driver for driving staples out of the magazine in a staple driving plane. The stapler also includes a nose piece coupled to the front portion of the magazine and a support device coupled to the nose piece. Staples in the magazine are supported on an outer surface by the magazine and on an inner surface by the support device.

The detachable accessory is insertable into and removable from the storage chamber such that the operating end leads during insertion into the storage chamber and the non-operating end leads during removal from the storage chamber. The accessory can be a staple remover, a hole punch, a pencil sharpener, or other office tool.

The staple driving member is configured to engage and drive staples. A cam member is interlocked to the staple driving member to reciprocally move the staple driving member. A drive motor is interlocked to the cam member. The cam member includes at least two rotating cams comprising rotating shafts extending in a direction intersecting a plane formed by said staple driving member reciprocal movement locus. The two rotating cams and the staple driving member abut at at least two points.

The cover sheet is movable between an open position and a closed position such that when the cover sheet is in the closed position, at least a portion of a first edge engages the cover lip and defines a title sheet space between the cover and the cover sheet that is configured to receive the title sheet.

Abstract: A stapler anvil and method for clinching a staple is disclosed. The anvil includes a body having a well. The well has an axis extending between the legs of a staple and is defined by a first surface having a first portion along which the first leg of the staple is directed as the staple is being clinched, and a second portion extending substantially at an angle relative to the first portion to direct the second leg of the staple at least partially away from the axis as the staple is clinched. The well is further defined by a second surface spaced from the first surface. The second surface is configured to redirect the second leg of the staple at least partially back toward the axis after the second leg has been directed at least partially away from the axis by the second portion of the first surface.

Abstract: A staple storage unit (10/20) allows the effective and easy removal of jammed staples (200) from the inside of the apparatus (100) by attracting jammed staples to the staple storage unit. The staple storage unit can be removed from the stapler apparatus frame. The staple storage unit is detachably mounted to a stapler apparatus provided with a storage unit (10) storing staples and a guide unit (20) to guide staples in this storage unit to a staple driving unit (103). The equipment must have an external wall provided with a specially designed, approximately rectangular slot having preselected dimensions. An attachment mechanism includes a housing for a spindle having a first portion rotatable within the housing, a shaft extending outwardly from the housing, and a crossmember at the end of the shaft having peripheral dimensions closely conforming to the internal dimensions of the slot. An abutment mechanism also emanates from the housing, and is located on opposite sides of the shaft intermediate the housing and the crossmember. The peripheral cross-sectional dimensions of the abutment mechanism and the shaft in combination closely conform to the dimensions of the slot. The length of the shaft from the housing to the crossmember is approximately equal to the thickness of the external wall of equipment.
