Abstract: A protection method is used in a portable communication device. The protection method comprises the steps of generating a specific command, and storing the specific command into the portable communication device; the portable communication device waiting and receiving a message; determining whether the message received by the portable communication device comprises the specific command; and performing a protection mechanism for protecting the important information contained in the portable communication device when the message comprises the specific command.

Abstract: A method for acquiring information is implemented in a hand-held mobile communications device to access information in a remote information server through the Internet. The method includes enabling the communications device to acquire partial content of information from the information server at predetermined times, to filter the acquired partial content according to a filtering rule, download information that complies with the filtering rule according to the filtering result, and to display the information complying with the filtering rule or a notification message relating to the information complying with the filtering rule according to a user setting. The method and device permit user convenience and ensure information confidentiality, without incurring extra fees.

Abstract: Systems and methods for registering fingerprints, setting a login method for an application, and logging into the application are provided. In the registration phase, the system receives a fingerprint signal, which is assigned to one of the many finger related data. In the phase which sets the login method, the system detects a login-signal, which comprises an identity, a password, and a command to execute the application. The system commands the display of the fingerprint related data and receives a selection message corresponding to one of the finger related data. The system assigns the application, the identity, the password to the selected fingerprint related data. In the login phase, the system receives the fingerprint signal and thereby, retrieves the corresponding application, the identity, and the password as well. The system generates a start signal comprising the identity, the password, and the command to execute the application.

Abstract: A sound pickup system includes a sound source tracking device that is operable to obtain distance and direction values of a target sound source relative to the sound source tracking device, and that determines nearest and farthest ones of a plurality of microphones in a microphone array relative to the target sound source with reference to determined distances of the sound source tracking device from the microphones, and the distance and direction values obtained by the sound source tracking device. A signal processing unit includes a delay calculator for determining appropriate time delays for the microphones with reference to information from the sound source tracking device, and a delay processor for processing signals generated by the microphones in the microphone array by introducing the corresponding time delays determined by the delay calculator into the signals from the microphones.

Abstract: A security system and method for a plug-and-play (PnP). The security system includes a server, a network system and a client. The server distributes a monitor program on the client via a remote control agent in advance, and transmits a lock or unlock message to the client through the network system. The client receives the message from the server, and locks or unlocks the PnP device by the monitor program via a disk I/O API.

Abstract: The present invention suggests a simplified and robust scanning method as a scenario for scanning video sources of a display device such as a TV or projector. The inventive method is attained by way of grouping the video sources and prioritizing the scanning priority for each video source group in terms of the viewing time statistic or the frame number statistic of each video source group. Therefore, the display device is capable of scanning each video source group based on the scanning priority to discover if there is a video signal inputted into the video source.

Abstract: In a method of mobile information services, a mobile information service device is connected to a remote information server and a telecommunications service provider so as to timely provide information to a hand-held mobile communications device. In the method, the mobile information service device searches the information server according to a filtering rule for information complying with the filtering rule, and sends a notification message to the hand-held mobile communications device through the telecommunications service provider such that the hand-held mobile communications device, after receipt of the notification message, downloads information related to the notification message from the information server, thereby achieving user convenience and ensuring information confidentiality, without incurring extra fees.

Abstract: An audio data rerouting system, architecture and method thereof are disclosed in the present invention. The system includes a first audio device and a second audio device; a first audio driver and a second audio driver, respectively corresponding to the first and second audio devices; and an audio data rerouting module; wherein, as the first audio device is in use, through the audio data rerouting module, audio data received from the first audio driver are dynamically rerouted to the second audio driver so as to redirect the audio data to the second audio device.

Abstract: A multi-mode operation system and method for computer systems is proposed. The system includes a storage device having first and second disk partitions, a mode controller and a master boot program. The master boot program checks the status of the mode controller. If the computer system is running in PC mode, the master boot program hides the second disk partition, boots from the first disk partition, and loads a complete version of an operating system therein, thereby enables the computer system to run in the PC mode. If the computer system is running in a sub-mode being defined as an entry of a multimedia mode class, such as a music playing mode or video playing mode, the master boot program activates the second disk partition, boots therefrom, and loads a refined version of the operating system therein, thereby enables the computer system to run in the selected sub-mode.

Abstract: In a login method for a wireless network with security settings, security settings data for a wireless local area network is provided in a portable wireless device (such as a remote controller) capable of two-way wireless transmission. When it is intended to log a new wireless network device in to the wireless local area network, the portable wireless device is operated to provide the security settings data to the new wireless network device. Therefore, the new wireless network device is able to log in to the wireless local area network upon completing security setup using the security settings data received from the portable wireless device. A wireless network system with security settings is also disclosed.

Abstract: A secure login method for a wireless local area network is implemented using a first wireless terminal that has already been logged in to the wireless local area network and that has obtained a settings value, and a second wireless terminal that has yet to be logged in to the wireless local area network and that has a public key and a secret key conforming to an asymmetric public key technique. The method includes: (A) enabling the second wireless terminal to send the public key to the first wireless terminal; (B) enabling the first wireless terminal to encrypt the settings value into an encrypted text using the public key and to send the encrypted text to the second wireless terminal; and (C) enabling the second wireless terminal to decrypt the encrypted text using the secret key so as to recover the original settings value that serves as a basis for logging in to the wireless local area network.

Abstract: A wireless communication system of a notebook computer includes a first antenna, an antenna array module and a wireless local area network (WLAN) module. The antenna array module includes a plurality of second antennas and a plurality of connectors electrically connected to the second antennas via corresponding signal transmission lines, wherein the distance between two adjacent second antennas is identical, and the length of each signal transmission line is equal. The wireless local area network (WLAN) module has a switch unit electrically connected to the first antenna and the antenna array module to select one of the first antenna and the antenna array module to receive/transmit a signal according to an operational mode of the WLAN module.

Abstract: A portable computer includes: an expansion base module; a system module having a rear side and a connecting end that is slidably pivoted to the expansion base module; and a stand having a first end that is pivoted to a rear end of the expansion base module, and a second end that is pivoted to the rear side of the system module such that the system module, the stand, and the expansion base module are stacked one above the other when the connecting end of the system module is disposed at a front end of the expansion base module, and that the stand and the system module stand from the expansion base module when the connecting end of the system module is disposed at a position between the front end and the rear end of the expansion base module.

Abstract: A latch unit is mounted on an electronic device having first and second housings. The latch unit includes a hook member for interlocking the first and second housings. The hook member is mounted in the first housing and has opposite first and second engaging ends. The first engaging end projects from the first housing and extends into and releasably engages the second housing upon movement of the hook member to an engaging position when the first housing is positioned at a first transverse position. The second engaging end projects from the first housing and extends into and releasably engages the second housing upon movement of the hook member to the engaging position when the first housing is positioned at a second transverse position.

Abstract: A method of automatically enabling utilization of particular types of files is to be implemented by a user computer when utilizing a file with an unrecognized file type extension. The method includes: with reference to configuration information of the user computer, searching a file source mapping table stored in the user computer or a file source mapping server in a network to find source information of an application program server from which an application program suitable for utilizing the file with the unrecognized file type extension could be obtained; and finding the application program server with reference to the source information thus obtained, downloading the application program suitable for utilizing the file with the unrecognized file type extension from the application program server, and installing the application program downloaded from the application program server.
