Abstract: A controllable variable volume clearance pocket for reciprocating compressor cylinders is disclosed. The invention includes a device for varying the clearance volume of a variable volume clearance pocket in a controlled manner. The device can be used repeatedly to change the compressor cylinder clearance volume as required to control compressor capacity and power required from the compressor driver. The device is typically mounted on the outer or head end of a reciprocating compressor cylinder, but can also be scaled and configured for use either in conjunction with a variable clearance volume unloader operating over a reciprocating compressor valve pocket or a special port in a reciprocating compressor body.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a measuring device comprising a flexible polymer plate (1) and at least one cavity (R0) formed within the polymer plate, comprising a window opening onto an upper face of the polymer plate and configured to receive at least one physical value sensor (SR) arranged in a casing (SP0). The measuring device also comprises electrical conductors (11, 13) embedded in the polymer plate and comprising a termination extending into the cavity (R0), to electrically couple the sensor to an electrical input/output point (4) of the polymer plate. Application mainly to measurements of parietal parameters.
Abstract: A suction valve for a reciprocating compressor includes a hollow cylindrical valve seat having a plurality of suction ports formed therethrough. The suction ports are covered by flaps moveably mounted on the inner surface of the valve seat which open and close in response to pressure differentials in the compressor. The flaps are oriented in a consistent circumferential direction so as to induce a vortex effect in gas moving through the suction ports.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a device for quantitative analysis of an analyte in a liquid sample by detecting a magnetic label, an instrument for controlling the analysis process and displaying the results and a method for performing said analysis with said device and said instrument.

Abstract: A device for separation of damp silicon wafers from a wafer stack, whereby the damp wafers may be removed individually from the stack, transferred to a subsequent conveyor device and the damp thin fragile wafers held in the stack can be rapidly separated and isolated even in large format. The device comprises separation rollers on which the wafer stack may be placed. On rotation of the separation rollers, the lowest wafer is displaced under a doctor strip through a wafer-thin gap between the roller plane and doctor strip and withdrawn from the wafer stack by elastic pressure by a pair of superimposed delivery rollers driven at the same speed.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for aligning overlapping ends of metal strips, particularly contact bands for photovoltaic solar cells, wherein the end of one of the metal strips is bent back. The device has an advance, displaceable first alignment element for aligning the upper end of one metal strip and a trailing, displaceable second alignment element for aligning the bent end of the other metal strip, and a contact element for the first alignment element and a contact element for the second alignment element. In this manner, a rapid and simple mechanical automated alignment of the overlapping ends of metal is made possible.
Abstract: An unloader system for a reciprocating gas compressor includes an unloader valve assembly which may be installed as the suction valve assembly or the discharge valve assembly of the compressor. The valve assembly includes a valve seat having one or more seat passages formed therethrough and a valve guard having a number of valve members movably mounted thereon equal to the number of seat passages. One of the valve guard and valve seat is rotatable relative to the other. The rotatable member is driven by a constant torque motor or other power source which stalls when a retarding force caused by pressure differentials across the valve members overcomes the torque supplied. Once pressures across the valve members equalize, the rotatable member can resume rotation. A method of unloading a compressor using the unloader system includes selecting a rotational speed for the rotating member to allow backflow.
Abstract: Support structures for footwear are described including, in one embodiment, one structure in the heel portion of the footwear and another structure in the forefoot portion. One or both of the support structures may be hollow and may include internal support elements such as ridges or posts to support the foot. Additionally, air may be included in the structures with a passageway between the internal support structures permitting the transfer of air back and forth as the wearer treads. Thus, energy is absorbed as the foot strikes the treading surface and is either stored to be returned as the foot rolls forward or, when air is included in the design, is transferred from the heel to forefoot portions and then back again as the foot pressure moves from the heel portion to the forefoot portion.
Abstract: A cushioning device for a footwear sole has multiple vertically directed columns. One column is located on a medial side and another is located on a lateral side, and are adjacent and spaced apart from each other. The medial column has the relatively larger volumetric property relative to the volumetric property of the lateral column. In another sense at least one of the columns has different elastomeric and/or compression properties relative to other columns. The device is located between an upper support plate and a lower support plate, and the support plates have more rigid characteristics than the cushioning device. Each column includes an upper larger area and a lower smaller area, and downwardly directed walls taper inwardly towards a lower location. The lower portion is where the bases of the columns are spaced apart.

Abstract: Footwear such as a shoe has a closure which includes a strap. The strap is releasably and removably secured at the toe of the upper and extends across an access opening down the access of the shoe and can be releasably and removably fastened to the upper adjacent to the ankle end by VELCRO™ secured between the strap and the upper. Other engagement devices can be used in place of VELCRO.
