  • Patent number: 7212180
Abstract: A method of driving a liquid crystal display device of IPS mode is disclosed. The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer placed between the substrates, gate lines placed above one of the substrates, source lines placed to cross the gate lines with an insulative layer interposed therebetween, a switching element placed near the crossing point of the gate lines and the source lines, and a pixel electrode connected to the source lines through the switching element. A signal voltage required for image display is supplied to the pixel electrode by the source line through the switching element. The method sets an average value of the signal voltage in such a way that an average value of a positive polarity voltage and a negative polarity voltage of the pixel electrode varies with a grayscale to be displayed, and inputs the average value of the signal voltage to the pixel electrode.

  • Patent number: 7208713
Abstract: A light source unit includes a light source having LED chips for emitting different colors of light and an optical sensor for detecting light from a light mixer. A light source control section controls by feedback control luminance of each of the LED chips according to values detected by the optical sensor. The light source unit also includes a temperature control section for controlling the temperature of the light source. The temperature control section is a feedback control system. Keeping the light source at a constant temperature allows suppressing spectrum changes of the LED chips with temperature, thereby suppressing changes in the luminance and chromaticity of the light source unit.

  • Patent number: 7015887
Abstract: The present invention is directed to provide a driving circuit and driving method for a LCD having high performance of moving image displaying within few amount of memory and downscaled circuit. In the present invention, a voltage applied to a pixel to drive liquid crystal material in the pixel is determined as a voltage with which the transparency of the pixel at the end of the current field becomes the designated transparency. To determine the voltage, a data table for quick response in which output data is stored in correspondence with some of the possible value of a preceding field image data and some of the possible value of the current field image data is employed, and the output data corresponding to the preceding field image data and the current field image data is determined by the data table through linear interpolation. The voltage corresponding to the output data is applied to the pixel.

  • Patent number: 7012338
Abstract: A terminal interconnection 45a including an aluminum alloy film 4a and a nitrogen-containing aluminum film 5a layered together is formed on a glass substrate 2. Nitrogen-containing aluminum film 5a in a contact portion 12a within a contact hole 11a exposing the surface of terminal interconnection 45a has a predetermined thickness d1 determined based on a specific resistance of the nitrogen-containing aluminum film. The thickness of the nitrogen-containing aluminum film outside the contact portion is larger than that of the nitrogen-containing aluminum film within the contact portion. Thereby, a semiconductor device or a liquid crystal display device having a reduced contact resistance and an appropriate resistance against chemical liquid is achieved.
