  • Patent number: 7380529
Abstract: A method for adjustment of the relative angle of rotation between a camshaft and a crankshaft in an internal combustion engine through an electromechanical phase adjuster is provided. The invention provides a rapid and precise adjustment behavior. To that end, a deviation of the adjustment speed (??) between a desired adjustment speed (?SOLL) and an actual adjustment speed (?IST) is calculated from at least one measurement parameter in a second control loop cascaded below the first control loop. An output parameter is calculated dependent on the deviation of the adjustment speed (??) through an adjustment speed adjuster (26) cascaded below the angle of rotation adjuster (23), with the output parameter being used to adjust the angle of rotation (?) using an electromechanical actuator (14). The relative angle of rotation can be rapidly and precisely adjusted by adjusting the adjustment speed. A phase adjuster for controlling the relative angle of rotation is also provided.

Abstract: A guiding and tensioning device for chain drives in vehicles is provided, having a guiding and tensioning element that can be fastened at a supporting part (4) of the vehicle and can be brought into an effective contact with the chain (1) of the chain drive. The device is provided as a rail (2) arranged in a plane of the chain drive and supported at the carrying part (4), which in order to reduce oscillations created by the chain drive can be acted on by at least one actuator with a force acting in the direction of the chain. In order to effectively and permanently suppress chain whining in such chain drives, the rail (2) is provided as a carrier supported on two supports. One support is formed by a drag bearing (3) arranged on the supporting part (4) in a locally fixed manner and the other support is a movable support (8) on the rail (2), which can be displaced in the longitudinal direction. At least one actuator (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d) is arranged between the supports and engages the rail (2).

  • Patent number: 7146947
Abstract: An arrangement for adjusting the angle of rotation of a camshaft (5) relative to a crankshaft is provided. The arrangement requires many components, which partially also require different operational conditions. The new arrangement is structured in a modular fashion, so that the components of the arrangement are no longer arranged inside a common housing, but rather are separately constructed according to their function and/or operational conditions, for example, they are used jointly by other control or adjustment devices. It is particularly advantageous that such arrangements can be produced in a reduced size and in a more cost effective manner and can be used for adjusting the valve play of internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 7137370
Abstract: A gear arrangement has two turntables nested or arranged concentrically in one another, and interconnected with one another via a swashplate. The gear arrangement preferably is used for adjusting the angle of rotation of the camshaft relative to the angle of rotation of the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine to affect the control times of the charge-cycle valves of the engine. The swashplate is connected with the first turntable formed as a camshaft gear via at least one pin, and the swashplate is connected with the camshaft via the second turntable by means of a gear ring.

  • Patent number: 7036474
Abstract: A control device and method for adjusting the angular velocity ratio (?N(t)/?K(t)) between a camshaft and a crankshaft is provided. Various control devices and methods for rotating the camshaft relative to the crankshaft provide a drive which may advance and retard the camshaft in comparison to the crankshaft. Previous systems have the disadvantage that either two drives in different directions are necessary for each actuation direction or the drive must have right-handed rotation and left-handed rotation. In the control device and the method according to the invention, the advancing of the camshaft is achieved by a drive in the running direction of the camshaft and the retarding is achieved by a braking device. It has been shown to be especially advantageous if an electric motor in two quadrant mode is used as the drive, which may then also be used as the braking device. Such a control device and method are required for setting the control times in internal combustion engines.

  • Publication number: 20050235939
Abstract: A device for adjusting the timing of valves is provided with a driven camshaft (1) comprising two groups of radial cams with at least one radial cam (4, 6) each for controlling valves. The circumferential positions of the radial cams (4) on the camshaft of the first group is adjustable in reference to the circumferential positions of the radial cams (6) on the camshaft of the second group. For this purpose, the device is provided with a wobble plate mechanism (14) having two rotary bodies (2, 10) with a common rotational axis, connected to one another in a form-fitting manner by way of a wobble-plate (13). The first rotary body is connected to the first group of radial cams (4) and the second rotary body is connected to the second group of radial cams (6). Additionally, an internal combustion engine is provided, comprising two camshafts, each with a wobble plate mechanism and two groups of radial cams for adjusting the timing of valves. This results in a very flexible adjustment of the timing of valves.

  • Publication number: 20050229881
Abstract: A device for adjusting the phase position between a camshaft and a crankshaft is provided. A quick and precise electronic adjustment for mechanical adjustment devices for adjusting the phase position between a camshaft and a crankshaft have previously not been known. The adjustment device is a component of an electronic circuit, either automatically adjusting the desired phase position directly or indirectly via another parameter, with the circuit including at least one loop between the control device and the adjustment path, by which a quick and precise adjustment can be achieved. Such arrangements are needed for a quick and precise adjustment of the phase position of a camshaft in reference to a crankshaft in internal combustion engines.
