  • Patent number: 6523512
Abstract: An angle of rotation of a camshaft relative to an angle of rotation of a crankshaft in internal combustion engines is adjusted for influencing the control times of a valve operation sequence. • Patent number: 6481266
Abstract: A process for the cylinder-selective leakage testing of the combustion chambers of a combustion engine is carried out during engine operation, but with the combustion process being suppressed. From the time progression of an engine shaft speed value, engine shaft speed differentials are determined respectively for each cylinder. Then a respective value for the compression pressure is allocated to each engine shaft speed differential. Preferably, the respective engine shaft speed differential is determined as the difference between the minimum engine shaft speed immediately following the top dead center position of a respective cylinder and the subsequent maximum engine shaft speed for this cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6283007
Abstract: A cylinder and piston unit, which can be utilized to select the gears of and/or to shift a change-speed transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle, has a housing provided with two internal chambers and internal stops and receiving a reciprocable assembly of three pistons including two interconnected pistons each adjacent a different one of the two chambers and a hollow cylindrical piston which surrounds one of the two interconnected pistons. The chambers can receive a pressurized hydraulic or pneumatic fluid jointly or independently of each other to thus effect movements of the interconnected pistons (with and/or relative to the holow piston) against selected stops and to thus select the positions of the interconnected pistons. Such interconnected pistons can be utilized to select the ratio of the change-speed transmission. The chambers can confine springs which assist or oppose the action of fluid upon the surfaces of the interconnected pistons.

  • Patent number: 6234125
Abstract: An apparatus for varying the phase of the camshaft in the combustion engine of a motor vehicle has an adjuster which is connected to the camshaft and is operable to adjust the phase of the camshaft prior and subsequent to starting of the engine. To this end, the adjuster is connected with a hydraulic drive system which can operate the adjuster while the engine is idle. Once the engine is started, the drive system receives pressurized fluid from the lubricating circuit of the engine. Prior to starting of the engine, the drive system receives pressurized fluid from a source other than the lubricating circuit or from a source which is provided in addition to the lubricating circuit. The other source is preferably the hydraulic circuit of the power steering system (such as a speed-sensitive power steering system) of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6170352
Abstract: An operating device for an automated gear box having a shift gate with a selector slot, three or more shift slots intersecting the selector slot, and an actuator for actuating a gear or shifting shaft in shifting motions. The shifting shaft has a pin or shaft extending through the shift gate. A blocking device with one or more blocking elements moveable generally along the selector slot allows movement of the pin to an adjacent shift slot and shifting within the shift slot by the actuator while blocking further movement of the pin along the selector slot upon engaging a blocking element.

  • Patent number: 6116391
Abstract: The friction clutch between the engine and an automated transmission in the power train of a motor vehicle are operated and controlled by an actuator which effects changes in the extent of engagement of the clutch as well as the selection of and shifting into particular gears. The actuator forms part of a unit which receives a pressurized hydraulic fluid from a source including an accumulator and a proportional valve which latter selects the fluid pressure necessary to shift the transmission into a selected gear.

  • Patent number: 6082330
Abstract: A method for the cylinder-selective control of combustion processes in diesel engines. In this case, a measuring device with associated processing unit is used to detect the rotational crankshaft angle and to determine the instantaneous rotational crankshaft speed. A control device determines suitable parameters from the rotational crankshaft speed, which parameters permit a cylinder-selective equalizing or a defined unequalizing of the mean pressures in various operating ranges of the internal combustion engine, thereby minimizing the effects of component differences in the fuel feed system and the combustion system on the combustion process.

  • Patent number: 6024667
Abstract: The prime mover of a power train for use in a motor vehicle normally drives a flywheel by way of a first engageable/disengageable clutch, and the flywheel drives the rotary input member of an automated change-speed transmission assembly by way of a second engageable/disengageable clutch. At least one first auxiliary aggregate (such as the pump of a power steering unit) can receive torque directly from the prime mover, and at least one second auxiliary aggregate (such as the compressor of an air conditioning system) can receive torque from the input member of the transmission assembly or from the prime mover. The rotary output member of the transmission assembly can receive torque from a continuously variable transmission which receives torque from the input member by way of a planetary, or from a planetary which receives torque from a continuously variable transmission. The internal gear of the planetary can be arrested by a stationary brake to thus interrupt the transmission of torque to the output member.

  • Patent number: 5997432
Abstract: An arrangement which operates an automated transmission for use in the power train of a motor vehicle has an element which can transmit motion to a gear selecting and shifting member of the transmission. The element is reciprocable by a first actuator which can employ an electric and/or fluid-operated and/or mechanical drive and is responsive to signals from an electronic control unit. A second signal-responsive actuator can be utilized to index the gear selecting and shifting member, either directly or by way of the motion transmitting element, in order to actually shift into or from a selected gear and/or to cause the member and/or the element to bypass an obstacle which can arrest the member and/or the element in an intermediate position in order to shift into or from one or more gears in certain types of transmissions.

  • Patent number: 5385134
Abstract: A system for monitoring suction leakage of external air into the exhaust gas path of an internal combustion engine during intermittent reduced pressure phases of the engine, during operation, includes an oxygen concentration sensing lambda probe arranged in the path. The probe issues an output signal having a reduced pressure phase pulsation frequency component of reduced pressure phase amplitude indicative of such oxygen concentration during the reduced pressure phases. The output signal is fed to a control device which generates an error signal when that amplitude exceeds a predetermined threshold level indicative of suction entry of external air into the path during a reduced pressure phase.

  • Patent number: 5351526
Abstract: Apparatus for monitoring suction leakage of external air into the exhaust gas path of an internal combustion engine during intermittent reduced pressure phases of engine running, includes two oxygen concentration sensing lambda probes arranged at a distance from one another along the path. The probes issue signals indicative of such oxygen concentration which are fed to a control device, such that an error signal is generated on deviation of the two probe signals from one another as caused by suction entry of external air into the path solely during a reduced pressure phase.
