  • Patent number: 4939334
Abstract: In order to avoid unnecessarily long withdrawal movements and to eliminate as rapidly as possible short-circuits upon contact of a countersinking electrode with the workpiece being worked in the electroerosion machine, whilst also adapting as flexibly as possible the path of the withdrawal movement to the geometry of the workpiece to be eroded and the path eroded therein, the withdrawal movement of the countersinking electrode during a short-circuit is controlled so that in the presence of a short-circuit the countersinking electrode is initially moved back by a predetermined distance along the previously covered or eroded path from a short-circuit point to an intermediate point and then the electrode is moved away from the intermediate point over the given withdrawal path if there is still a short-circuit on reaching the intermediate point.

  • Patent number: 4903213
Abstract: A numerical control system performs path interpolation calculations for the control of highly dynamic processes having different path contour geometries wherein a vector having a length L connects in linear form a first point P1 to a second point P2. These points are located in three dimensional Cartesian space having axes x, y, and z. Length L has Cartesian components X, Y and Z and is subject to an angular rotation C about the z axis. The system also has process parameters S and K wherein S is an address identifying the parameter to be modified and K identifies the modified parameter value. A coarse interpolator outputs the path elements L, X, Y, Z and C and the parameters S and K between path increments as course interpolations which are a function of the path contour geometry but are independent of time frame. A fine interpolator having an intermediate memory is connected downstream from the course interpolator. The fine interpolator outputs the path elements and parameters as fine interpolations.

  • Patent number: 4864091
Abstract: A servocontrol device for controlling a distance between an erosion electrode and a workpiece in an erosion machine calculates an error signal from an actual distance between the erosion electrode and the workpiece and a desired distance. The error signal undergoes low pass filtering, before it is used as a control signal for a drive connected to the erosion electrode to drive the latter. For optimizing the dynamic characteristics, the servocontrol device has a variable cutoff frequency, which is dependent on at least one parameter of a processing pulse supplied to the erosion electrode.

  • Patent number: 4858140
Abstract: A coarse interpolator is adapted for use in a numerical control system for performing path interpolation calculations for the control of highly dynamic processes. These processess have different path contour geometries wherein a vector having a length L connects in linear form a first point P1 to a second point P2. These points are located in three dimensional Cartesian space having axes X, Y, and Z, Length L has Cartesian components X, Y and Z and is subject to an angular rotation C about the z axis. The interpolator responds to a group of predetermined vector lengths, starting with the maximum length, in order to calculate the path elements L, X, Y, Z and C for the maximum length vector. A path error E is then determined for the path elements so calculated. The error E is then compared with a praedetemined maximum error value. If the error E does not exceed the maximum value, the calculated path elements are outputted.

  • Patent number: 4810892
Abstract: An element of a machine is provided with a magnetically or optically readable data medium. The data medium is divided into grooves and sectors. A corresponding scanning head for scanning the data medium is arranged on another element of the machine. The data are coded so that it is possible to identify each sector and each groove on the data medium. After reading the contents of the data medium of the element of the machine by the scanning head of the other element, a value of the measurement of the relative positions of the two elements is affected to the data read by the head. This value may be used to control the position of the elements or to displace one of the elements relative to the other. The data medium may be linear or may be configured as a disc. The scanning head may be secured to the associated element. It may also be attached by means of a mechanism so as to have a relative motion with respect to the data medium even when the elements are stationary with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 4778973
Abstract: A wire guidance arrangement for guiding a wire electrode of a spark erosion machine has several replaceable wire guides, which are mutually spaced to thereby form individual erosion zones. The individual wire guides are held by spring tension in corresponding openings of a guide plate, which rest on a base block. The common plane of the guide plate and the base block forms a reference plane on which are axially centered the undersides of wire guidance members of the individual wire guides. Even in the case of a greater wire electrode fixing length, this always ensures a satisfactory guidance of the wire electrode. In addition, the individual wire guides can be simply replaced without any adjustment being necessary.

  • Patent number: 4752665
Abstract: For the securing and removal of waste fragments from eroded openings of a workpiece on a spark erosion machine, a collecting plate is provided below the workpiece to retain the waste fragments. In the case of an X/Y-movement of the workpieces, the waste fragments move over the top of the collecting plate. A collecting container is arranged on the edge of the collecting plate and the waste fragments drop into it in the case of a corresponding X/Y-movement of the workpiece. According to another variant, a lifting cylinder can be positioned above the workpiece and with a gripper (e.g. a magnet) grips the waste fragments and draws them upwards out of the eroded opening. By moving the lifting cylinder, the waste fragment is then placed on a conveyor belt or can be directly conveyed into the collecting container.
