  • Patent number: 5055126
Abstract: With the aim of increasing the yield of soybeans, compositions are disclosed which decrease the high rate of absicission of flowers and young fruit. The composition contains gibberellic acid (GA.sub.3) and salicylic acid (SA) in suitable formulations. Application of the composition to the soy plants follows before, during or after the start of blooming. With the aid of the composition according to the invention, the grain yields and length of the shoots can be increased without simultaneously diminishing the stability of the sprouts.

  • Patent number: 4983042
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for measuring the microstructure of technical surfaces on the principle of the interference microscope. In accordance with the invention, the virtual planes of reflection present in the object beam space and reference beam space are imaged in an optically conjugated manner by different offsets, while the point at which the beam is split and the point where it is recombined are separated in space and a correction is performed such that the object beam and reference beam propagate parallel to one another in a common beam space. In this manner it is possible, in interferometric measurement, to eliminate undesired circular interference structures and render unnecessary any physical reference surface.

  • Patent number: 4936988
Abstract: The invention relates to a diagonal flow filter module, particularly for ultra- and microfiltration. The diagonal flow filter module consists of a cuboid stack element (5) with alternating flow channels (9) for crude solution or retentate and filtrate channels (10), which are separated from one another in each case by a filter membrane (6). The flow channels (9) are closed off at the side walls of the stack element (5), while the filtrate channels (10) have openings at the side walls for the discharge of the filtrate. The flow channels (9) are open at the end faces of the stack element (5) and the filtrate channels (10) are closed. The ends of the stack element (5) are sealed to a housing (1) with a synthetic resin composition. Sealed to the end faces there are end caps (12) with the connections for crude solutions and retentate which, together with the seal between the stack ends and the housing (1), ensures a reliable separation between retentate and filtrate space.

  • Patent number: 4849077
Abstract: A process for solid phase sequencing of nucleic acid fragments is disclosed. The object of the invention is to provide a sequencing process which enables the simultaneous sequencing of large amounts of long and short nucleic acid fragments and which is optionally automated. Thus, a solid support combining mechanical stability, anion exchange characteristics, and chemical elution of nucleic acids off the support is used. Immobilized nucleic acid fragments are chemically modified and subsequently the nucleic acid backbone is cleaved and simultaneously or subsequently said fragments are eluted by chemical means. The present invention is applied to molecular biology and gene technology.

  • Patent number: 4740474
Abstract: Diborane is detected in air with high sensitivity (ppb range) and selectivity. The invention is thus suitable for the monitoring of work places and rooms, the emission of plants, etc. The detection is based on an aerosol ionization gas analysis. In addition to an amine, a reagent which does not react with amine is added to the air stream and reacts with the diborane to form a compound which forms aerosols with the amine. The aerosols obtained by this reaction constitute the main measuring effect. When using SO.sub.2 in concentration.gtoreq.3.5 ppm, disturbances due to the SO.sub.2 content of the air are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4536217
Abstract: The invention pertains to the absorbing dressing for wounds, which consists of spherical particles of regenerated cellulose of the size 0.05-0.5 mm (preferably 0.05-0.3 mm) and a macroporous structure characterized by the cyclohexane regain of the dry material at least 0.2 ml/g. The dressing is prepared from the regenerated cellulose swollen with water by replacement with organic solvents and the subsequent drying of the product swollen with the said solvent. The porous structure of the dressing warrants that it can absorb excretions of the wound in the amount 1.5 to 5 g water per g of solids; the grainy macrostructure remains preserved during the absorption so that the material applied on the wound in the form of a powder in the layer 2-5 mm thick, in particular 2-3 mm thick, can be without difficulties and almost without pain rinsed away with water.

  • Patent number: 4410709
Abstract: The invention relates to new sulfobetaines and a process for the manufacture of cyclic sulfobetaines of a substituted 4-sulfomethyl-pyrrolidinium betaine type.Diallylammonium combinations are converted with salts of sulfurous acid, under good mixing and mild reaction conditions, in the presence of catalytic acting transition metallic ions of the first, fifth, seventh or eighth secondary groups of the Period Table and initiators at pH 2-9. The process is technologically easily carried out, requires only little energy, while the combinations according to this invention can be selectively manufactured with a nearly quantitative yield. The fact that no carcinogenic alkylates are employed, technical chemicals and tap water may be used, and hardly any by-products are formed, may be regarded as further advantages of this process. The substances can be used for multiple purposes, for instance as conductive coating and antistatic materials.
