  • Patent number: 4381534
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement which are of importance in the polarization of shaped articles from polymers. The shaped articles from polymers, polarized by the method as per invention, are finding effective application in electroacoustic converters, piezoelectric switches and in proving electromagnetic radiation within a broad spectral zone.It is possible to obtain by the method as per invention and, respectively, the arrangement as per invention, above-average values for polarization as well as for the piezoelectrical and pyroelectrical coefficients. The arrangement as described, and respectively, the method as described are characterized by the use of charge-limiting polarization capacitors.

  • Patent number: 4370244
Abstract: An improved process for cold mechanical working of metallic materials is disclosed, in which a lubricant containing salts of carboxylic acids with more than ten, and preferably 15 to 20, carbon atoms. The lubricant also contains at least one organic solvent with a boiling point below 200.degree. C., and preferably at least one organic solvent with a boiling point below 30.degree. C. In a preferred embodiment, tensides are added to reduce surface tension. The lubricant combines the advantages of solid and liquid lubricants, and permits the cold mechanical working of materials with high tensile strength.

  • Patent number: 4349481
Abstract: Is the objective of the invention to develop a process for the production of tagged gibberellin-(7)-aldehydes which is of general applicability. As per the invention a gibberellin-(7)-aldehyde is converted into the gibberellin-(7)-aldehyde tagged at the C-15 position of the basic gibberellin skeleton under the influences of ultraviolet radiation, in given cases after the isolation of a developing 7-Hydroxy-7,15-cyclo butane derivative, and in the presence of compounds with tritium or deuterium donor properties respectively. The process is of particular suitability for the tagging of alkali-sensitive gibberellin-(7)-aldehydes. The tagged gibberellin-(7)-aldehydes produced by the process as per invention, are of importance for instance as primary materials for the obtaining of tagged natural gibberellins and their derivatives.

  • Patent number: 4299337
Abstract: A pulsed-flow apparatus for spectrometers and the like has a mixing chamber and two syringes each adapted to contain a different liquid and both connected to the mixing chamber. The plunger of each syringe has an outwardly extending rod provided with a toothed rack. A pair of electric armatures are provided, each reciprocable lengthwise of one of the rods and carrying a pressure spring which moves with the armature and, during each move of the armature towards the syringe, advances the plunger deeper into the syringe by the length of one tooth of the rack, but does not extract it when the armature subsequently moves in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4280096
Abstract: A spectrometer is disclosed in which gradient coils are provided in order to create an inhomogeneous magnetic field for use in analyzing individual regions within the sample under examination. The gradient coils and the modulating coils are operated by discrete pulses, rather than continuously. A keying unit coordinates the interaction of the various components of the spectrometer in order to monitor resonance of the sample under examination while such pulses occur.

  • Patent number: 4225404
Abstract: Straight chain perfluoroolefins compounds of medium length with terminal or double bonds and a minor proportion of trifluoromethyl side chains or mixtures of such perfluoroolefins with perfluoro paraffins of equal chain length and corresponding structure, the perfluoroolefins being present in the mixture in an amount of 40 to 70%. The compounds are valuable as highly reactive intermediate products in the production of surface active agents. The compounds are made by subjecting a highly fluorinated organic compound to degradation by means of a high energy radiation of a density of 0.3 to 3.0 W/cm.sup.2 effected in a radiation chamber which has been subjected to a preceding rinsing with an inert gas or with a monomeric highly fluorinated organic compound.

  • Patent number: 4005238
Abstract: A metallized polymeric article in which the metal coating is more firmly adhered is provided by disposing between the polymeric substrate and the metal top coat a poromeric adhesive coating. The poromeric adhesive coating is produced by coating onto the substrate a solution or dispersion of a polymer which when coagulated by exposure to an atmosphere of a suitably high relative humidity coagulates to form a poromeric adhesive coating.

  • Patent number: 3962465
Abstract: Food additive, having utility for example as a thickener is prepared by mixing an optimum concentration of a starch-hydrolyzing enzyme and a starch or pre-treated starch in water in a concentration of the starch of 15-50% by weight at a pH optimum for the enzyme, heating the mixture to a temperature at which the starch grains swell and permitting the starch to hydrolyze, inactivating the enzyme by additional heating of the mixture, and cooling the mixture to form a gel or dehydrating the mixture to form a dry hydrolyzate.
