  • Patent number: 4080822
Abstract: A method of leak testing a transport vessel for radioactive material is disclosed. Tracer gas (helium) and pressurizing driving gas (nitrogen), the latter in condensed form, are introduced into the transport vessel when in open condition. The tracer gas is introduced in a plastic bag which occupies a major part of the interior of the transport vessel the through which the tracer gas diffuses at a low rate. The liquid pressurizing gas is introduced in a smaller vessel. After the transport vessel has been sealed, the tracer gas diffuses out of the collapsing plastic bag and the pressurizing gas boils off resulting in a pressurized tracer gas atmosphere within the transport vessel. The transport vessel is now examined on the outside with respect to any tracer gas penetrating out through possible leaks in the transport vessel.

  • Patent number: 4073045
Abstract: There is provided a convector for heating rooms and a method for manufacturing same. This convector comprises a plastic tube wound to form a flat coil. The plastic used for the tube is preferably a cross-linked plastic, such as cross-linked polyethylene. Some of the coil-turns may be displaced inwards or outwards from the basic shape of the tube coil, in order to improve the convection.

  • Patent number: 4018563
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for analysing low halogenide ion contents, the analysis being performed photometrically after an electrodialysis concentration of the halogenide ions, whereby the halogenide ions are also converted into elementary halogen. By said conversion contaminating halogenide does not have any adverse influence on the photometric analysis.

  • Patent number: 4004984
Abstract: There is provided a distillation plant of the multiple stage flash distillation type. The plant comprises a reinforced concrete shell which is divided into a large number of flash chambers and a heat supply chamber by means of separation walls. At least some of a bundle of continuous condensation tubes of plastic extend throughout all of the chambers. The tubes may be extruded in situ so that they directly move into position in the shell. The inlet and outlet manifolds for the tube bundle are defined by an end of the shell and an adjacent separation wall. The shell has preferably a plastic coating or consists of a polymer concrete. Preferably, the walls consist of or comprise plastic so that the bundle of plastic tubes may be sealed to apertures in the walls by gluing or welding.

  • Patent number: 3980862
Abstract: An electric fluid heating apparatus include a number of electrically conductive pipe coils arranged side by side in parallel and connected to and extending between inlet and outlet pipes for flowing the fluid to be heated from the inlet pipe to the outlet pipe. Each pipe coil is disposed in a vertical plane and comprises a plurality of vertically extending laterally spaced pipe sections joined by U-bends at the top and bottom to form a single continuous serpentine coil. The central electrical points of the pipe coils are electrically connected to the phases of a polyphase alternating current source in a repetitive order and means associated with the ends of each pipe coil completes the circuit to the respective phases whereby the coils are resistively heated by the current flowing therethrough.

  • Patent number: 3972548
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of joining components made of cross-linked polymers, at least one of the components being a tube, which method comprises deforming at least one of the components so as to deviate from the cross-linking shape, inserting an end of the tube into the other component, and heating the joint location to the temperature where the deformed components tend to return to the cross-linking shape, the heating being maintained for a time sufficient to produce fusing together over the joint location.

  • Patent number: 3961923
Abstract: In a separator, a vapor-liquid mixture is passed upwardly through a pipe over an annular arrangement of curved vanes which whirl the mixture and effect the separation of its vapor and liquid components as it continues to flow upwardly above the vanes. Viewed in vertical section, each vane has a curved cross-section with its radius of curvature increasing from its radially inner end to its radially outer end. The vanes have the form of a section of the outer surface of a right circular cone whose axis extends transversely of the axis of the pipe containing the vanes and whose height is less than the diameter of the portion of the pipe containing the vanes.

  • Patent number: 3944830
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for human bone density determination in vivo. .gamma.- or x-ray radiation of two different photon energies is scanned across the human body part to be examined. For the two photon energies, the logarithms of the intensities of the radiation transmitted through the human body part are determined simultaneously. The logarithm values obtained are processed on line such that the ratio of these values is changed by a predetermined factor. The processed values are subtracted from each other to produce a simultaneous output value which is integrated to give an examination result proportional to the bone tissue content expressed as weight per length unit in a direction perpendicular to the scanning direction while being independent of the surrounding soft tissue.
