  • Patent number: 5377536
Abstract: A method for identifying misfiring is employed in an internal combustion engine with multiple cylinders. The identification is effected by measuring segment times required for the crankshaft to rotate about given angular segments during the cylinder work cycle. Any fluctuations are then calculated and compared with threshold values. During thrust cutoff, i.e. when no fuel is supplied to the cylinders, errors in the segment time measurement are identified and corrected, and in dependence of the number of the completed cycles for calculating the correction factors, the threshold values are modified.

  • Patent number: 5378410
Abstract: A process for in-drum drying of liquid radioactive waste includes sealing a shielded container by placing a plug in a central opening formed in a lid of the container. The plug is removed from the opening and a filling adapter having an outside diameter that fits the opening is inserted into the opening. To measure the fill level a sensor is inserted into the filling adapter and protrudes from a free end of the filling adapter into the interior of the container. Liquid radioactive waste is poured into the sealed container and vapors are vented from the container, through the filling adapter. The liquid radioactive waste is heated in the container with a heater.

  • Patent number: 5375892
Abstract: A quick coupling for detachably connecting a hose nipple to a pipe socket of automotive hoses has a pipe socket and a hose nipple with a first and a second end. A hose is fixedly and sealing connected to one end of the pipe socket and the hose nipple. A sealing ring is connected to the outer wall surface of the free end of the hose nipple. The hose nipple is inserted with its free end into the pipe socket and fixedly and detachably connected to the pipe socket such that the sealing ring radially seals the space between the inner wall surface of the pipe socket and the outer wall surface of the hose nipple by being radially compressed. The free end of the pipe socket has a plurality of openings and the hose nipple has a plurality of tongue-shaped springs for engaging the openings extending axially from the sealing ring toward the connected hose. • Patent number: 5375546
Abstract: In a process and a device for shortening the needle thread end at the beginning of sewing and at the end of sewing in two-thread lockstitch sewing machines, the catch thread device (23) of an already existing thread-cutting device (22; 60; 90) is moved into its thread-catching position during the first stitch formation cycle, and it is ensured, either by the selection of a suitable point in time for moving the catch thread device (23) or by a compressed air flow discharged from a compressed air line (81), that at least the reserve-side leg of the needle thread loop will be caught by the catch thread device (23). Part of the needle thread end is cut off during the return movement of the catch thread device (23) into its starting position. Furthermore, the needle thread is clamped either under a leaf spring (44), or is pushed by a sufficiently large feed step under the pressure foot, and is thus held in a frictionally engaged manner.

  • Patent number: 5377249
Abstract: A computer tomography apparatus has an anode in the form of a partial ring along which a focus is electronically moved to generate a scan beam from different directions, and a partial ring detector which generates a number of data sets from the attenuated radiation at the different directions, includes a computer wherein the data sets are weighted independently of the measured values so that image reconstruction can be undertaken with a standard computer tomography method, such as convolution and back-projection. The weighting is selected so that the boundaries of regions having constant values represent smooth curves in the sinogram. The image can thereby be reconstructed without complementary interpolation, which is normally required in computer tomography systems having a partial ring x-ray source and detector.

Abstract: An electrode device for intracorporeal stimulation of body tissue, in particular for intracardial stimulation of heart tissue, has an electrode cable containing a coiled, flexible, insulated first wire running along substantially the entire length of the electrode cable and whose interior forms a channel, with at least one partially conductive electrode head provided on the distal end of the electrode cable. The cable also contains a second wire provided in the channel, this second wire running coaxially along the entire length of the electrode cable and being attached at or near the distal end of the electrode cable. The proximal end of the second wire extends beyond the proximal end of the electrode cable, a device for displacing the second wire in relation to the electrode cable in a selected way is provided so that by compressing the coiled first wire the electrode cable can be made stiff or pliant, as desired, with the need for a stylet.
