    Abstract: The present invention pertains to a process for effecting aromatics hydrogenation which process comprises contacting a hydrocarbon feedstock which contains 10–80 vol. % of aromatics in the presence of a hydrogen-containing gas with a catalyst which comprises hydrogenation metals on a carrier, wherein (i) the hydrogenation metals comprise a combination of platinum and palladium, and (ii) the carrier comprises silica-alumina dispersed in an alumina binder, wherein the alumina binder is present in an amount of 5–50 wt. %, based on the total weight of the silica-alumina and alumina binder present in the carrier, and wherein the silica-alumina comprises 5–50 wt. % of alumina, based on the weight of the silica-alumina.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains to a process for regenerating and rejuvenating an additive-based hydrotreating catalyst containing Group VIB and Group VIII hydrogenation metals. The process comprises the steps of regenerating the catalyst by contacting it with an oxygen-containing gas at a maximum temperature of 500° C., followed by rejuvenating the catalyst by contacting it with an organic additive comprising an organic compound, other than a compound that the catalyst is contacted with in the course of its use as a catalyst prior to regeneration and rejuvenation. The organic additive is incorporated into the catalyst. If necessary, the catalyst may then be dried at such a temperature that at least 50% of the additive is maintained in the catalyst. The process according to the invention makes it possible to restore the activity of a used additive-based hydrotreating catalyst to its original level, or even to improve it to above that level.

A flame retardant compound formed from A) tetrabromophthalic anhydride; B) diethylene glycol; C) at least one alpha-omega alkane diol, or at least one alpha-omega alkane diol and at least one aliphatic monool; and D) at least one alkylene oxide; with the proviso that the compound has a viscosity at 25° C. of about 60,000 cps or less, and a bromine content of at least about 43 wt %. Polymer compositions formed from (a) a polyurethane or a polyisocyanurate and (b) a formulation of the invention.

    Abstract: A method of controlling microbial contamination of poultry carcasses in the processing of poultry as food products is described. The method comprises contacting the carcasses with an aqueous medium containing an effective microbial inhibiting amount of active bromine resulting from the addition to the medium of (i) at least one 1,3-dibromo-5,5-dialkylhydantoinin which one of the alkyl groups is a methyl group and the other alkyl group contains in the range of 1 to about 4 carbon atoms or (ii) a solution thereof, or (iii) both of (i) and (ii). Such contacting inhibits contamination of the carcasses by microorganisms, even at least some bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics or antibacterials. Also described are improvements in a poultry chill tank containing an aqueous medium and a plurality of poultry carcasses in contact with the medium.
