Patent number: 9104410Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided which allow telecommunication equipment to adjust its power consumption. By replicating the functionality of a standard component for processing traffic on a general purpose CPU, traffic can be routed within the equipment to the general purpose CPU for processing instead of the component under certain conditions. If the maximum bandwidth supported by the functionality on the general purpose CPU is less than the maximum bandwidth supported by the component, then the component can be powered down during times of low traffic and the traffic routed to the general purpose CPU instead. Since the maximum bandwidth supported by the functionality on the general purpose CPU is less than the maximum bandwidth supported by the component, less power is necessary to operate the telecommunication equipment and hence cost is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2011Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Kin-Yee Wong, Joseph Rorai

Patent number: 9106413Abstract: To address the security requirements for cyber-physical systems, embodiments of the present invention include a resilient end-to-end message protection framework, termed Resilient End-to End Message Protection or REMP, exploiting the notion of the long-term key that is given on per node basis. This long term key is assigned during the node authentication phase and is subsequently used to derive encryption keys from a random number per-message sent. Compared with conventional schemes, REMP improves privacy, message authentication, and key exposure, and without compromising scalability and end-to-end security. The tradeoff is a slight increase in computation time for message decryption and message authentication.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Young Jin Kim, Vladimir Y. Patent number: 9107184Abstract: For applications with very small data activities, connection of a UE to a wireless network for sending or receiving such small data traffic increments via conventional connection set-up processes is quite inefficient in terms of spectral resource utilization. The invention provides a new connectionless methodology for transmission of such small data increments between a UE and a serving eNB. In particular, the invention methodology contemplates identifying a set of preamble sequences among the pool of preamble sequences provided for access requests from a UE to an eNB via the Random Access Channel as corresponding to a request from the UE for access to transmit an increment of data smaller than a predetermined threshold data size. When a UE has data traffic to transmit of a size smaller than the predetermined threshold size, it selects one of the preamble sequences in the identified set and sends an access request, using the selected preamble sequence, to a serving eNB via the Random Access Channel.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2011Date of Patent: August 11, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Yang Yang, Xin Wang, Jialin Zou
