Patent number: 10471741Abstract: Provided herein are methods of obtaining good photocured-ink adhesion to low surface energy materials. The methods have greatly improved adhesion of photocured ink on low surface energy materials, including those that are subjected to high humidity or wet environments. The methods take into account the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the materials and the onset for the glass transition temperature, including ink applied to an exposed surface of the material at an elevated temperature that is close to the Tg of the material. The ink is allowed to sit briefly or soak, such as for more than 1 second, before the ink is cured. The ink may be photocured. Furthermore, the methods do not require solvents or surface treatment, including plasma or corona treatments, to obtain good ink adhesion.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2019Date of Patent: November 12, 2019Assignee: Align Technology, Inc.Inventor: Michael Christopher Cole

Patent number: 10467815Abstract: A processing device generates a visual overlay comprising a virtual model of a dental arch that represents a treatment outcome for the dental arch. The processing device outputs the visual overlay to an augmented reality (AR) display or virtual reality (VR) display. The processing device receives user input based on a user interaction with the virtual model of the dental arch, wherein the user input modifies the virtual model of the dental arch and determines an update to the treatment outcome for the dental arch based on a user input. The processing device generates an updated treatment plan based on the update to the treatment outcome and updates the visual overlay, wherein the updated visual overlay comprises a view of the dental arch after the updated treatment outcome.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Align Technology, Inc.Inventors: Ozi Marom, Assaf Weiss, Maayan Moshe, Yingjie Li, Phillip Thomas Harris, Maurice K. Patent number: 10463452Abstract: Orthodontic systems and related methods are disclosed for designing and providing improved or more effective tooth moving systems for eliciting a desired tooth movement and/or repositioning teeth into a desired arrangement. Methods and orthodontic systems include the generation of an overcorrection in the tooth-receiving cavities of an appliance worn in the dentition. The overcorrection may provide an improved and more accurately applied force or moment applied to a tooth. The overcorrected force or moment can move a tooth closer to a desired position than if not overcorrected as sufficient force can still applied to the tooth as it gets closer to the desired position. The overcorrected force or moment may also better target the root of the tooth where the biological response to tooth movement occurs. The overcorrection may be calculated in various ways as described herein.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2017Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: Align Technology, Inc.Inventors: Vadim Matov, Fuming Wu, Jihua Cheng, Jennifer Chen, Chunhua Li, Bastien Pesenti, Igor Kvasov

Patent number: 10456217Abstract: Apparatus, system, and methods for utilizing one or more computing devices to stage the movement of teeth during an alignment treatment are disclosed. The computing device receives an electronic representation of the patient's teeth in their initial position and an electronic representation of the teeth a final position for each tooth. A route each tooth will travel to reach its final position is determined, and the teeth are scheduled to move according to a movement pattern. Moreover, the schedule of movement takes into account a maximum rate of tooth movement for each tooth, the path of movement for each tooth, the distance each tooth needs to move, any needed tooth staggering, any needed round-tripping or tooth movement slowing. The invention also includes techniques for determining an optimum number of stages for the treatment based on the schedule of movement.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: Align Technology, Inc.Inventors: Ian Kitching, Alexander Dmitriev, Alexey Vishnevskiy
