Abstract: In one embodiment, detection of failures in a network device can be achieved by obtaining a last hop of partial traceroutes. For example, the last hops of the partial traceroutes detected in a time period can be sorted by frequency of occurrence. Multiple clusters can be generated, one with last hops that are most frequent and at least one other with the last hops that are less frequent. The hop with the highest frequency and the last hop with the second highest frequency can be compared. If the last hop with the highest frequency exceeds the second highest frequency by a predetermined amount, then the last hop with the highest frequency is alarmable.

Abstract: Techniques are described that enable users to replicate information technology (IT) infrastructures located within the users' on-premises computing environments at a computing environment provided by a computing resources service provider. A user's IT infrastructure can include any number of interworking components including, for example, physical servers, virtual machines (VMs), software components, as well as various types of system configurations related to networking, security, and so forth. A user may desire to replicate an on-premises IT infrastructure at a service provider network, for example, to take advantage of the increased scalability and stability of the service provider network, for reduced infrastructure and management costs, for use in on-demand verification and testing of an infrastructure, or for the ability to automatically failover servers.

Abstract: A database server (e.g., a replica) generates a local checksum from a sequence of database operations and contributes the sequence of operations and the local checksum to a shared log of a distributed database. Additional database servers, similarly, generate local checksums. A checksum replica agent determines a first ordering of database operations of a first database server of a database, determines a second ordering of database operations of a second database server of the database; determines whether a third ordering of database operations that is based at least in part on the first ordering and the second ordering is valid. In an embodiment, a checksum replica agent generates a global checksum over the third ordering. Checksums, in an embodiment, are digitally signed and/or encrypted.

Abstract: A data storage system includes multiple head nodes and data storage sleds. A control plane of the data storage system designates, for a volume partition, one of the head nodes to function as a primary head node storing a primary replica of the volume partition and designates two or more other head nodes to function as reserve head nodes storing reserve replicas of the volume partition. Additionally, the primary head node causes volume data for the volume partition to be erasure encoded and stored on multiple mass storage devices in different ones of the data storage sleds.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for providing one or more streams of digital content to a user. A request for content may be received by a video content provider from a client device. Digital content may be determined by the video content provider, encoded in a stream, and transmitted to the client device. The digital content may be determined based at least in part on a user and/or the client device requesting the digital content.

Abstract: Methods and systems for optimization of task execution are disclosed. A definition of a task is received. A plurality of parameter values for execution of the task are selected based on an execution history for a plurality of prior tasks performed for a plurality of clients. The plurality of parameter values are selected to optimize one or more execution constraints for the execution of the task. The execution of the task is initiated using one or more computing resources configured with the selected parameter values.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for optimizing a load balancer configuration are disclosed. A load balancer is configured to perform traffic management for a distributed system. A new component is deployed to the distributed system or a performance deviation is predicted in the distributed system. In response to the initiation of the deployment or the prediction of the performance deviation, the configuration of the load balancer is modified from a first state to a second state. Modifying the configuration of the load balancer modifies the traffic management for the distributed system. If the configuration was changed due to a deployment, the configuration of the load balancer is restored from the second state to the first state after a period of time has elapsed.

Abstract: A data discovery service provides an automated method of identifying and indexing data sources associated with a user's account without requiring additional configuration by the user. This enables search services to be provided across various different types of data sources a user may utilize. The data discovery service can generate a list of data sources associated with the user's account, the list may include access information for each data source. Each data source or type of data source may be associated with an index policy that identifies the types of data from a corresponding data source are to be indexed. An index may then be generated based on those policies for each data source associated with the account.

Abstract: Forwarding of network packets generated by a networking device may be load-balanced. Network packets may be generated by a networking device, such as a packet processor, that also processes and forwards received network packets. Forwarding decisions for the generated network packets may be made according to a load balancing scheme among possible forwarding routes from the networking device. In at least some embodiments, a destination resolution pipeline for determining forwarding decisions for generated network packets may be implemented separate from a destination resolution pipeline for determining forwarding decisions for received network packets in order to determine different forwarding decisions for the generated network packets. The generated network packets may then be forwarded according to the determined forwarding decisions.

Abstract: Digital certificates include pointers to remote certificate information stores that maintain usage information associated with digital certificates. The pointers provide a mechanism for enabling the remote certificate information stores to be queried for usage information associated with a particular digital certificate. The usage information can be used to determine a validity of the digital certificate.

Abstract: A first data set corresponding to an evaluation run of a model is generated at a machine learning service for display via an interactive interface. The data set includes a prediction quality metric. A target value of an interpretation threshold associated with the model is determined based on a detection of a particular client's interaction with the interface. An indication of a change to the prediction quality metric that results from the selection of the target value may be initiated.

Abstract: A system for registering an input-limited device, such as a voice-enabled device, with a captive access point that requires completion of a portal webpage prior to allowing client devices access to a network, such as the Internet, is described. Such captive access points are commonly found in hotels, and may be used for both freely provided public WiFi and for connections that require providing payment. For registration, the input-limited device operates as a proxy, relaying communications with the captive access point back-and-forth to a second device with rich user-input capabilities via an independent communications channel. Registration information is provided to the access point as though it originated with the input-limited device, allowing the input-limited device to acquire access to the network.

Abstract: A support service application may process a request that contains a hyperlink. The hyperlink may be examined to determine a level of risk associated with accessing a resource referred to by the hyperlink. An execution environment for processing the hyperlink may be identified. The execution environment may comprise a virtual machine drawn from a pool of virtual machines. The resource may be retrieved by a browser process operating within the context of the virtual machine, and a safe version of the resource may be rendered and made available to customer support personnel using the support service application.

Abstract: Migration of mutable data sets between data stores may be implemented. Multiple data sets may be stored at a source data store. Some of the data sets may be identified for migration to a destination data store. Updates to the identified data sets may be blocked while the identified data sets are copied from the source data store to the destination data store. In some embodiments, the copies of the data sets at the destination data store are validated. Updates to the data sets may then be allowed at the destination data store instead of the source data store.

Abstract: An external power supply containment unit includes a chassis configured to mount to a structure external to a rack. The external power supply containment unit further includes one or more discrete power supplies mounted in the chassis and one or more electrical connectors that are configured to couple and decouple with a power distribution system of a rack positioned adjacent to the external power supply containment unit. The electrical connectors are configured such that racks of electrical devices, such as computers, can be replaced while the external power supply containment unit remains mounted to the external structure. Additionally, discrete power supply units included in the external power supply containment unit may be re-used to provide power to electrical devices included in a replacement rack when a rack of electrical devices coupled with the external power supply containment unit is replaced.

Abstract: Technologies are provided for storing data by alternating the performance of data write operations using multiple clusters of storage devices. Data is written to internal buffers of storage devices in one cluster while data stored in buffers of storage devices in another cluster is transferred to the storage devices' permanent storages. When available buffer capacity in a cluster falls below a specified threshold, data write commands are no longer sent the cluster and the storage devices in the cluster transfer data stored in their buffers to their permanent storages. While the data is being transferred, data write commands are transmitted to other clusters. When the data transfer is complete, the storage devices in the cluster can be scheduled to receive data write commands again. A cluster can be selected for performing a given data write request by matching the attributes of the cluster to parameters of the data write request.

A score to indicate a target memory location is able to be determined based at least in part on a source memory location is computed based at least in part on the execution state information. The score and the target memory location are indicated.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for systems and methods for customized video content summary generation. Example methods may include determining a first segment of digital content including a first set of frames, first textual content, and first audio content. Example methods may include determining a first event that occurs in the first set of frames, determining a first theme of the first event, generating first metadata indicative of the first theme, and determining a meaning of a first sentence that occurs in the first textual content. Some methods may include determining a second theme of the first sentence, generating second metadata indicative of the second theme, determining that user preference data associated with an active user profile includes the first theme and the second theme, generating a video summary that includes a portion of the first segment of digital content, and presenting the video summary.
