Publication number: 20180054923Abstract: A rack-mountable computer system enables an airflow that cools components in an upstream portion of the computer system interior to be cooled through mixing with a bypass airflow downstream of the components in the upstream portion. The mixed airflow can cool components in a downstream portion of the interior. The bypass airflow is directed by a bypass plenum that is unencompassed by the separate plenum that directs the airflow to cool the upstream portion components. The bypass plenum can be at least partially established by an external surface the computer system and one or more external structures, including an external surface of an adjacently mounted computer system. Relative flow rates through the separate plenums can be adjusted, via flow control elements, to separately control heat removal from components upstream and downstream of the air mixing, based at least in part upon air temperatures in the separate interior portions.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2017Publication date: February 22, 2018Applicant: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David Edward Bryan, Christopher Strickland Beall, Darin Lee Frink

Patent number: 9898099Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are disclosed for processing stylus interactions with a device and drawing the results of those interactions in a manner that reduces noise and latency. This includes selecting a filter based on a velocity of an input, the velocity determined by comparing coordinates and timestamps associated with the input events. A first filter may be determined using previous input events to reduce latency and a second filter may be determined using previous and subsequent input events to improve accuracy of the filter selection. An output may be generated using the first filter and/or the second filter to combine the benefits of the reduced latency and the increased accuracy.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2014Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Heidi Christine Schubert, Lutz Gerhard

Patent number: 9898614Abstract: A data storage system may implement implicit prioritization to rate-limit secondary index creation for an online table. A secondary index may be generated for a table stored in a data store. The table may be incrementally indexed, performing multiple indexing operations to populate the secondary index. Prior to performing an indexing operation, an evaluation of a capacity limitation for performing indexing operations may be made with respect to capacity to process access requests at the data store. If a determination is made that performance of the indexing operation exceeds the capacity limitation, then the indexing operation may be throttled. If a determination is made that performance of the indexing operation does not exceed the capacity limitation, then the indexing operation may be performed.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2015Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Kiran Kumar Muniswamy Reddy, Wei Xiao, Adam Douglas Morley, Lokendra Singh Panwar

Patent number: 9900919Abstract: A first device is activated and transmits wireless beacon frames. The first device acts as an access point to a temporary wireless network, while the beacon frame invites a second device to connect thereto. The beacon frame may be sent at various rates or intervals in the interest of expeditious discovery or contact, conservation of battery-based energy resources, or according to other goals. The second device may respond to the beacon, and accepted by the first device for connection to the temporary wireless network. The second device may then provide network access credentials corresponding to an established network. The first device may then switch to a station mode and connects to the established wireless network by way established corresponding wireless access point. The temporary wireless network may be terminated after the first device successfully connects to the established wireless network.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2014Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventors: David George Butler, Richard William Mincher, Yi Zhu

Patent number: 9898542Abstract: A process is directed to the generation, maintenance, and provision of narrations for requested network content. A client computing device transmits a narration of a network resource, such as a web page, to a network computing provider. The narration can be separated into portions, each portion corresponding to a portion of the network resource. A second client computing device can request the network resource and the narration. The network computing provider can determine whether there has been any change in the requested network resource since the narration was received, and can modify the narration provided to the second client computing device accordingly. The second client computing device can playback appropriate portions of the narration while still being capable of regular interaction with the requested network resource.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2015Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Amazon Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Andrew Hayden
