  • Patent number: 9824377
Abstract: Methods and systems for round-robin e-mail scheduling are disclosed. A plurality of e-mail addresses, comprising a first e-mail address and a second e-mail address, are acquired. A first e-mail is sent to the first e-mail address. It is automatically determined whether the first e-mail was successfully delivered to the first e-mail address. If the first e-mail was not successfully delivered to the first e-mail address, a second e-mail comprising the same message content is automatically sent to the second e-mail address.

  • Patent number: 9824232
Abstract: Described are techniques for associating messages with a particular portion of media content. A message received from a first device, associated with a portion of media content stored on the first device, may be provided to a second device and stored in association with a corresponding portion of media content on the second device. Content consumption data associated with the second device may indicate whether the second device has previously accessed the portion of the media content. The message may be suppressed from presentation if the second device has not previously accessed the corresponding portion of the media content. The message may be presented to the second device when the corresponding portion of the media content is accessed.

  • Patent number: 9825831
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring the performance associated with fulfilling resource requests and determining optimizations for improving such performance are provided. A processing device obtains and processes performance metric information associated with processing a request corresponding to two or more embedded resources. The processing device uses the processed performance metric information to determine an allocation of one or more domains to be associated with the two or more embedded resources. In some embodiments, in making such a determination, the processing device assesses performance metric information collected and associated with subsequent requests for the two or more embedded resources using each of a variety of alternative allocations of domains associated with the two or more embedded resources. The processing device may also consider a number of factors, including domain selection criteria obtained from an original content provider.

  • Patent number: 9821944
Abstract: This disclosure describes, in part, systems and methods for package deceleration and protection while packages are loaded into a bulk box. The packaging assembly includes an interference mechanism attached to a bulk box (e.g., a Gaylord container) by multiple elastic members. As packages are dropped into the bulk box, each package contacts the interference mechanism and the elastic members dampen the kinetic energy of the falling package, thereby reducing its velocity before the package continues into the bulk box.

  • Patent number: 9826022
Abstract: Content can be shared between devices by transmitting an encoded signal that indicates, to each capable device within range, instructions for accessing the content. For example, a first device can emit an encoded audio signal that can be received by any capable device within audio range of the device. Any device receiving the signal can decode the information included in the signal and obtain a location to access the content from that information. Using such an approach, a first user can quickly and easily share content with several users at the same time without any of the receiving users having to determine or navigate to the content being shared. Further, using signals, such as audio signals, provides the ability for most existing devices to easily share content without significant hardware modification or additional expense.

  • Patent number: 9823934
Abstract: When providing a user with native access to at least a portion of device hardware, the user can be prevented from modifying firmware and other configuration information by controlling the mechanisms used to update that information. In some embodiments, an asymmetric keying approach can be used to encrypt or sign the firmware. In other cases access can be controlled by enabling firmware updates only through a channel or port that is not exposed to the customer, or by mapping only those portions of the hardware that are to be accessible to the user. In other embodiments, the user can be prevented from modifying firmware by only provisioning the user on a machine after an initial mutability period wherein firmware can be modified, such that the user never has access to a device when firmware can be updated. Combinations and variations of the above also can be used.

  • Patent number: 9824005
Abstract: A leak detection system may be configured to receive a plurality of memory use reports periodically from a user device. The memory use reports may include an indication of memory that may be used and/or allocated by/to a particular process, such as a process that may currently be running on the user device. The memory use report may further provide a relatively granular view of the allocation of memory associated with the process, such as by type of memory and/or category of memory associated with the process. The leak detection system may use the plurality of memory use reports to generate a memory profile associated with the process and particular memory types and/or categories of memory allocation. By analyzing the memory profiles, the leak detection system may be configured to identify a memory leak associated with the process on the user device.

  • Patent number: 9824298
Abstract: Techniques for predicting and detecting produce quality may be provided. For example, visual or infrared characteristics of a produce item (e.g., skin, shape, wrinkles, and other characteristics of an apple, pepper, etc.) may be compared with ripeness characteristics of the type of produce item (e.g., other apples or peppers). The ripeness characteristics may correspond with the type of produce item at different stages of ripeness along a ripeness regression (e.g., a timeline of the produce item from raw to rotten). One or more ripeness scores of the produce item may be determined along a timeline (e.g., raw at day 1, rotten at day 10, etc.), so that when a user requests a produce item corresponding with a particular ripeness score, the produce item can be provided to the user based in part on the visual or infrared characteristics of the produce item and ripeness regression.

  • Patent number: 9826285
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for providing dynamically generated summaries of media content, such as electronic books, audiobooks, audio series, video content series, and so on. A position in media content is determined based at least in part on input from a user. A summary of a portion of the media content is dynamically generated, where the portion of the media content begins or ends relative to the position. A summary of the portion of the media content is presented to the user via an output device.

  • Publication number: 20170331883
Abstract: Hybrid quorum policies may be implemented for access requests to state maintained in a distributed system. An update to state maintained in a distributed system may be sent to multiple nodes in the distributed system maintain the state in order to satisfy a hybrid quorum policy for updating the state in the distributed system. The hybrid quorum policy may include individual quorum policies for multiple quorum sets including nodes of the distributed system. Acknowledgments received from nodes in the distributed system indicating that the update is performed may be evaluated according to the individual quorum policies to determine whether the hybrid quorum policy is satisfied. If the hybrid quorum policy is satisfied, then the update to the state may be considered durable.

  • Publication number: 20170329528
Abstract: A block-based storage system may implement efficient replication for restoring a data volume from a reduced durability state. A storage node that is not replicating write requests for a data volume may determine that replication for the data volume is to be enabled. A peer storage node may be identified that maintains a stale replica of the data volume. One or more replication operations may be performed to update stale data chunks in the stale replica of the data volume with current data chunks without updating data chunks in the stale replica of the data volume that are current. Stale replicas that are no longer needed may be deleted according timeouts or the amount of stale data in the replica.

  • Patent number: 9820049
Abstract: An acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) system that detects and compensates for differences in sample rates between the AEC system and a set of wireless speakers based on a search-based trial-and-error technique. The system individually determines a frequency offset for each microphone-speaker pair using an iterative process, determining an echo-return loss enhancement (ERLE) value for each offset that is tried, and selecting the frequency offset associated with the largest ERLE value.
