Abstract: An indicator gauge has a flat light conducting prism with an upper beveled surface positioned between the translucent dial and movement of the indicator. The prism receives light from a source located in the rear portion of the gauge and laterally of said movement, such that light is reflected downwardly by the beveled edge through the prism to illuminate the dial and pointer. A second annular prism may also be provided with a beveled surface so as to reflect light from the source across the face of the dial.

Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring the thickness of filter cake on a filter by using the difference in pressure between the inside of the filter apparatus and the inside of a hollow body spaced from a filter element to provide a signal of measurement.

Abstract: A Bourdon tube sensing element for a fluid-filled temperature gauge is made by inserting strips of silicone rubber into a partially flattened tube, especially one of beryllium copper, which is shaped on a fixture or mandrel. The shaped tube is subjected to a heat treatment during which the silicone rubber expands and deforms the tube. After heat treatment, the tube is cooled retaining its shape and the silicone rubber contracts from the inner surface of the tube to form a small passage between the silicone rubber and the tube so that the pressure of the fluid may be uniformly applied to the interior walls of the tube.

Abstract: A valve arrangement having a disc which is tapered in cross section from the center to the periphery so that upon impact closure with the seat, deformation of the disc will absorb impact energy. The valve arrangement can consist of two check valves in back-to-back relation, the valve discs being swingable relative to the seats therefor, one of the valves being held in an open position and released upon abnormal conditions so that it can close.

Abstract: A vertical centrifugal is provided with an imperforate basket and a center feedcone which discharges the feed stream at the bottom of the basket through a plurality of discharge tubes extending radially from the lower portion of the feedcone. Within the feedcone are provided a plurality of substantially vertically extended vanes for accelerating the liquid feed stream.

Abstract: A pressure leaf filter with a pair of sluicing assemblies oscillatable independently of each other to spray sluicing fluid on said leaf elements to remove filter cake. The sluice arms can have fixed or rotatable nozzles. A control means is provided to energize electric or fluid operated motors at predetermined times so that the sprays of the nozzles do not interfere with each other.

Abstract: A novel method for the selective electrodeposition of a metallic coating onto a base material and the products produced thereby. In the method of the invention, a thin adherent coating of an electrically conductive material is initially applied to the base material to mask off those portions of the material not to be electroplated. The composite thus formed is then placed in a suitable electroplating apparatus wherein a metallic coating such as gold or other precious metal is electrodeposited onto the portions of the composite not covered by the masking material. After electroplating, the masking material may readily be removed from the base material by chemical or mechanical means, or it may be left intact on the plated article to perform a utilitarian or decorative function in the end product application.

Abstract: In an electric motor fan unit, a motor section frame enclosing a motor ventilating fan moving air through an internal motor cooling air path includes an end bracket with an enlarged rim for mounting fan shell and interior partition structures defining a fan section housing with a chamber for a working air centrifugal impeller mounted on the motor shaft outboard of the end bracket and drawing a working air stream into a housing axial inlet for discharge at the housing circumference, and with an inner chamber for a slinger disk on the shaft to afford bearing protection from working air borne moisture, contaminants, and high temperature and humidity, by simple, low cost, durable structure.
