  • Patent number: 4228475
Abstract: A ground monitoring circuit for detecting the existence and proper connection of the ground wires in an electrical power cable of a type commonly used at a surface mining site. A complete conductive loop is established between the ground conductor, or conductors, and the ground check, or pilot, wire of the cable. A sensing signal at a frequency higher than the power frequency is coupled onto the ground monitoring loop. The voltage and current in the loop are separately sampled. Various comparisons of the voltage and current samples are made to detect any deviation in the resistance and/or reactance characteristics of the loop. Any deviation from desired conditions in the loop produce one or more output signals that change the condition of a trip relay. The trip relay initiates action that ultimately opens circuit breakers to remove power from the cable.

  • Patent number: 4206009
Abstract: The invention relates to the formation of a tire tread profile by the application of rubber tread material upon a tire casing by employing a micro-computer programmer in conjunction with a tread material applicator apparatus. The control system employed during tread formation uses a programmer having a micro-computer unit, a floppy disk and a keyboard, interfaced with a tread material application apparatus. In operation, the programmer is connected to a drive motor of the tire tread application assembly and operates under the control of a tire profile program stored in the floppy disk. Proper tread profile shape is arrived at as a function of the digital ratio between the actual position of the tire rotation and the transverse position of the tire tread applicator assembly. The latter is digitally controlled within the parameters of a preprogrammed set of commands, as a direct and sole function of the position of the tire casing about its spin axis.

  • Patent number: 4204681
Abstract: A bumper strip surrounding the upper peripheral portion of a racket and for providing protection against injury to another player and to painted surfaces of a playing court is structurally integrated with the racket frame by passing string with which the racket is strung through the holes formed in the bumper strip whereby upon the string being tightened, the bumper strip is forced into engagement with the racket frame and whereby upon the bumper strip being removed the racket is rendered inoperable for play; and/or, a throatpiece is structurally integrated with the racket frame by passing the string through holes formed in the throatpiece which string upon being tightened in cooperation with projections extending outwardly from the sides of the throatpiece and extending into holes formed in the racket frame structurally integrates the throatpiece and the frame.

  • Patent number: 4201177
Abstract: Compound bow having two eccentric wheels or cams at each end. One of the wheels may be quickly manually adjusted with respect to the other without disassembling the strung bow to adjust the magnitude of drop off at full draw without significantly changing the draw length or peak weight. Also, a ball and socket type quick connect and disconnect device is provided for dead ending the bow cables or strings to the eccentric wheels or cams.

  • Patent number: 4194031
Abstract: A method of prolonging the life of a tool joint on a drilling pipe, the tool joint including an external tapered surface of 18.degree. providing an elevator shoulder, including steps of preparing or treating the tapered eroded surface, depositing in the area of said tapered surface a selected amount of material of selected metal hardness, and grinding the external surface portions of said deposited material to provide a smooth external uninterrupted surface of selected hardness and smoothness and inclined at 18.degree. to the longitudinal axis of said pipe. A tool joint for a drill pipe having an external cylindrical surface and an external tapered surface merging with the surface of the pipe length, said external tapered surface on hardened metal being smooth, uninterrupted, and lying in a surface generated by rotating a straight line at an angle of 18.degree. to the axis of the drill pipe.

  • Patent number: 4177367
Abstract: A momentary pushbutton switch has a circular actuating button with a downwardly extending center post. The post is in continuous contact with a center cantilevered leg of a spring contact member. The spring contact member also has side arms that are joined at opposite ends to respective end portions. One end portion is fixed to one terminal on a base member and the opposite end portion is free and spring biased above a stationary contact on the base. Depression of the actuaing button forces the cantilevered leg and free end downwardly toward a stop on the base. The free end then engages the stationary contact, closing the switch contacts. The base and contacts are specially formed to make assembly simple and error free.
