  • Patent number: 5935474
Abstract: The invention pertains to flexible heating elements with carbon fiber resistive elements and can be used independently for heating greenhouses, domestic and industrial premises and as a component in other devices such as heaters. The invention also concerns a method of manufacturing the flexible heating elements in question. An electrical heater is a resistive element in the form of a bundle of carbon fibers; an insulating first layer made from a heat-conducting material in the form of a winding or braid, and a second layer made from polymer material; current supply elements each of which has three pairs of lobes. One of these pairs secures the end of the resistive element freed from the electrical insulation between the tip and a section of the first insulating layer; the second compresses the second electrically insulating layer; the third secures the insulating tube.

  • Patent number: 5927082
Abstract: The proposed gas generator includes an isothermal vessel for a cryogenic liquid, the vessel being connected via an electrically controlled valve to a supercharging evaporator, a nozzle unit arranged in the upper part of the gasifier and connected by an electrically controlled valve to the lower part of the cryogenic liquid vessel, the gasifier being partially filled with a heat-accumulating substance and provided with a deflector situated above the nozzle unit and an electrically controlled sealing unit; in the lower part along the gasifier axis are provided a separator and a toroidal elastic casing attached to the bottom of the gasifier, the cavity of the casing communicating via the main pipe (provided with a pre-heating heat exchanger) with the upper part of the iso-thermal vessel, while the heat-accumulating substance is situated above the surface of the toroidal elastic casing, the electrically controlled sealing unit being situated at the separator outlet.

  • Patent number: 5915480
Abstract: A fire extinguishing system has one or more extinguishing units (1) connected together. A heat detector (2) in each extinguishing unit acts as a device for detecting a fire and as a device for triggering an extinguishing process with the aid of a fire extinguishing device (3), which generates a fire extinguishing aerosol spray during the fire. In addition, an electric ignitor (5) and a pyrotechnic electric generator (4) is in each extinguishing unit, and--if several extinguishing units are provided--each pyrotechnic electric generator (4) is connected via wiring (6) to all ignitors (5) in the other extinguishing units. A sensor element of the heat detector (2) consists preferably of a fusible material or of a material with shape memory characteristics. The fire extinguishing system provides a high degree of operational reliability in detecting fires and in extinguishing fires at initial stages, while maintaining favorable characteristics in stand-by operation.

  • Patent number: 5865257
Abstract: In the method for extinguishing fires in enclosed spaces, pre-cooled combustion products are introduced into an enclosed space until in the enclosed space there is an atmosphere that prevents combustion. An ecologically acceptable and fire-inhibiting medium that is not detrimental to health is formed by oxidizing the combustion products completely by an oxygen-containing oxidizing agent prior to cooling. An apparatus for implementing the method has a housing (1) which is divided by a transversely running partition wall (11) having at least one wall opening (15). At the at least one wall opening (15) a mixing tube (8) is mounted coaxially with respect to a discharge nozzle (2) connected to a combustion chamber (14), the end of the mixing tube remote from the partition wall (11) opening into the atmosphere. The space (7) between the mixing tube (8) and the inner wall of the housing (1) is filled with a coolant.

  • Patent number: 5831209
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pyrotechnical, aerosol-forming composition for the purpose of extinguishing fires in confined spaces, containing potassium nitrate in a quantity of 67-72% by mass, phenolformaldehyde resin in a quantity of 8-12% by mass and dicyandiamide as the balance, wherein the particles of the potassium nitrate have a maximum average diameter of 25 .mu.m, the particles of the phenolformaldehyde resin have a maximum average diameter of 100 .mu.m and the particles of the dicyandiamide have a maximum average diameter of 15 .mu.m,A further object of the invention is a method for the preparation of the composition, which can be manufactured in conventional installations, by preparing a phenolformaldehyde solution using a mixture of ethyl alcohol with acetone in a ratio of 30-50:70-50 and by mixing and subsequently granulating during the drying process at 20.degree.-70.degree. C. The drying process is preferably performed at 40.degree. C. by circulating air.
