Abstract: A computer system stores a database of multi-dimensional variables indicating field values of rate plan objects. The database stores rules related to each rate plan object. The computer system forms a primary catalog comprising all of the multi-dimensional variables from all rate plan objects from the database. The computer system receives a first user input indicating a first plurality of field entries. The computer system forms a secondary catalog that inherits all rate plan objects of the primary catalog. The computer system identifies, in the secondary catalog, first fields values that do not correspond to the first plurality of field entries based on the rules for the rate plan objects corresponding to the first plurality of field entries. The identified first fields values are removed from the secondary catalog. A second rate plan object is formed based on the secondary catalog.
Abstract: A system and a method disclosed herein provides search and recommendation mechanisms for selecting attorneys. In an embodiment, a processor identifies a claim litigated by a candidate attorney. The processor uses historical claim data and a claim score for an attorney who opposed the candidate attorney when litigating the claim to determine a claim score for the candidate attorney. The processor then uses the candidate attorney claim score to recalculate the opposing attorney claim score, and checks to see whether the claim scores have converged. If the scores have not converged, the processor iteratively recalculates the claim scores of the candidate attorney and the opposing attorney until the scores converge. Finally, the candidate attorney claim score is used to determine an overall score for the candidate attorney which can be compared against the scores of other attorneys and used for attorney search and recommendation.

Abstract: A business method and the dBIRD software solution enables success through collaboration and data competency resulting in project-ready blueprints, an input synthesizer, and an embedded conversational chat bot. The project-ready blueprints ensure rigor and standards and result in activating cognitive thinking while enabling collaboration within the business team. The input synthesizer develops business insights, facilitates accountability, and ensures accessibility to model reports. The embedded conversational chatbot engages interdisciplinary teams, results in the transfer of knowledge amongst the team, creates analytics translators, and ensures role-specific coaching. The Chatbot is embedded within the system and provides guidance about methodology, roles, research questions, data science terminology on as-needed basis.
Abstract: One embodiment provides an optical spectrometer. The optical spectrometer can include a lens-and-filter system configured to collect light scattered from a sample, a spot converter configured to convert a substantially circular beam outputted from the lens-and-filter system into a substantially rectangular beam, and a slit comprising a rectangular aperture to allow a predetermined portion of the substantially rectangular beam to enter the rectangular aperture while blocking noise. The slit can further include at least one microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based movable structure configured to adjust a width of the rectangular aperture.
Abstract: A system is presented for predicting the amount of energy required by a manufacturing plant over a period of time, and then providing a recommendation on the best amount of energy to sell at each period, taking into consideration the energy requirements based on the production schedule, the price of energy, possible penalties for over selling energy, and other factors. A user interface is provided to present relevant information to a user, allow the user to plan the use of energy, and determine the energy offering for sale in each period. Based on a known future production schedule of a steel mill, implementations provide a forecast of electrical energy usage per hour over the same time horizon as the production schedule. Based on the forecast and electricity selling and billing rules, a recommended amount of energy to be sold to the market by the hour is presented with the corresponding offer price.

Abstract: Single loop inductive sensors are widely deployed in infrastructure for traffic data collection, however, these loops currently provide little more than vehicle detection. A system and method are provided that enable single loop inductive sensors to be used for vehicle classification (e.g., identification as motorcycle, passenger car, bus, etc.). Classification may be done using the Federal Highway Administration's 13 class system. Initially a signature library is built from vehicle signatures with known classifications. Vehicle signature waveforms of unknown classification obtained from inductive loop sensors are analyzed to identify specific features in the waveform including the number of “peaks”, the first peak location and its magnitude. A classifier (e.g., K-nearest neighbor) uses a representation of the vehicle signature and the features to determine from the signature library the classification of the vehicle.

Abstract: A system authenticates sound verbalized or otherwise generated by a live source within a monitored setting for voice-controlled or sound-controlled automation of a responsive process. One or more classifiers each generate a decision value according to values of predetermined signal features extracted from a captured digital stream, and a sound type classification is computed according to an aggregate score of a predetermined number of decision values. The actuation of the responsive process is authenticated when the system discriminately indicates the captured sound signals to be verbalized or generated by a live source. The responsive process is thereby suppressed when the sound is instead determined to be reproduced or otherwise previously transduced, for example by a transmission or recording.

Abstract: As a user uses a programming system to create programs, data are stored into a computer memory. The data describe actions of the user in creating the programs. The programming system has a user interface and a set of templates for functions. The user interface is designed to receive input from the user to direct the system to assemble functions from the set into the programs, the functions being functions for processing of data. As the user uses the user interface to assemble a program, suggestions to the user are computed, the suggestions recommending functions to be added into the program. The computation of function suggestion is based at least in part on the stored action data.
