  • Patent number: 8094843
Abstract: A low-profile speaker assembly comprises a substrate and a substantially plan piezoelectric element disposed in a plane substantially parallel to the substrate and mechanically connected to the substrate at one or more edges. A tuning mass is attached to a face of the piezoelectric element, to improve low-frequency performance of the speaker assembly. In some embodiments, the tuning mass is disposed on the surface of the piezoelectric element facing the substrate. The substrate, which may comprise a printed circuit board, may include a cut-out region arranged to allow movement of the tuning mass within the cut-out region.

  • Patent number: 8095364
Abstract: The present invention provides a speech recognition system combined with one or more alternate input modalities to ensure efficient and accurate text input. The speech recognition system achieves less than perfect accuracy due to limited processing power, environmental noise, and/or natural variations in speaking style. The alternate input modalities use disambiguation or recognition engines to compensate for reduced keyboards, sloppy input, and/or natural variations in writing style. The ambiguity remaining in the speech recognition process is mostly orthogonal to the ambiguity inherent in the alternate input modality, such that the combination of the two modalities resolves the recognition errors efficiently and accurately. The invention is especially well suited for mobile devices with limited space for keyboards or touch-screen input.

  • Patent number: 8095859
Abstract: Encoding of a low-density parity check code uses a block-circulant encoding matrix built from circulant matrices. Encoding can include partitioning data into a plurality of data segments. The data segments are each circularly rotated. A plurality of XOR summations are formed for each rotation of the data segments to produce output symbols. The XOR summations use data from the data segments defined by the circulant matrices. Output symbols are produced in parallel for each rotation of the data segments.

  • Publication number: 20120004575
Abstract: An apparatus and method for collecting heart rate information associated with a user while the user is viewing and/or listening to multimedia content and/or experiencing real-life events. The heart rate information is interpreted to determine a level of physical arousal. The level of physical arousal may be stored with the multimedia content. Interpretation of emotional characteristic can provide several gradations of user's preference (e.g., the degree to which the user is aroused).

  • Publication number: 20120005032
Abstract: A data repository receives a user's request to subscribe to a data backup service, and receives data from one or more remote devices associated with the user. The data repository stores the data in storage at the data repository, and receives a request to restore at least a portion of the data to one of the remote devices. The data repository determines, responsive to the request, a restoration fee for restoring the at least the portion of the data, and determines whether the user agrees to the restoration fee. The data repository charges the user the determined restoration fee if the user agrees to the fee, and provides the at least the portion of the data to the one of the remote devices.

  • Publication number: 20120000362
Abstract: Concentrating particles in a turbulent gas flow may include receiving, in a receptacle, a turbulent gas flow that includes particles. The concentration of particles in a gas flow exiting the receptacle at a first port is increased as compared with a concentration of the particles in the gas flow received by the receptacle. The increased concentration of particles is accomplished by removing a portion of the gas flow by using a second port, and fluidly communicating the gas flow through a tube in the receptacle. The tube has a smaller diameter at the end of the tube at which the gas flow exits the tube than diameter at the end of the tube at which the gas flow is received.

  • Publication number: 20120002684
Abstract: The present invention relates to a private network communication technology, and it provides an implementation method, terminal, relay station and system for DMR private communication with respect to the existing defects that each of the communication terminals can only communicate with each other by using the same time slot in a group, and thereby a frequency width of 12.5 KHz can not be used sufficiently. The DMR private network communication terminal includes a communication module for receiving CACH information, receiving and transmitting DMR private network communication, a synchronization module for establishing synchronization and determining which time slot the received DMR private network communication occupies based on the received CACH information; and controlling the communication module to make a response for the received DMR private network communication in the time slot.
