Abstract: Where links between a port module and plural switch fabric slices are of various lengths, a cell is transmitted from the port module to a switch fabric slice in response to a grant. The transmission is delayed by an amount based on a link round trip delay (RTD) value for the corresponding link between the port module and the switch fabric slice, and a predetermined global delay value. As a result of this delay, the cell arrives at the switch fabric slice at a fixed number of cell times (equal to the global delay value) after issuance of the grant, independent of any link lengths.

Abstract: Session services are employed in a networked computing environment to apply specific processing to an exchange of data between processes. In a wireless communication network, a single wireless link is typically shared among multiple users through wireless channels, which are allocated and switched among the users on a demand basis. Packets sent over the wireless link need to be signaled and tagged accordingly to initiate and employ the session service for the intended packets which comprise the flow. A method for identifying and applying session services to a wireless link includes identifying a packet flow over the wireless link corresponding to a received message by employing a flow identifier and filter. The packet flow corresponds to a session, and is mapped to at least one session service. The mapped session service is then applied to the received message.

  • Publication number: 20030227906
Abstract: A fair multiplexing of synchronous transport signals facilitates emulation of synchronous transport signals, such as SONET signals, across a packet-oriented network. A system and a process include receiving a data representative of a synchronous transport signal at several channel processors, storing the data in a memory element, creating a number of packets conforming to the protocol of a packet-oriented network using the stored data. The system and the process also include storing the packets in a different set of memory elements associated with each of the packet processors, selecting one of the memory elements based on the amount of information stored by each of the memory elements, and transmitting the packets associated with the selected memory element via the packet-oriented network.

Abstract: One aspect of the present invention provides a process and a system for emulating a synchronous transport signal across a packet-oriented network. The process includes the steps of receiving a data representative of a synchronous transport signal at each of several channel processors, creating a number of packets, each having a header conforming to the protocol of a packet-oriented network, and transmitting the packets via the packet-oriented network. In addition, the process also includes the steps of storing each of these packets in a set of memory elements associated with each of the channel processors and adjusting timing of the synchronous transport signal based on the packet-count telemetry associated with each of the memory elements.

  • Publication number: 20030227926
Abstract: Data cells of plural classes are transferred from input ports to output ports through a switch by storing the cells at each input port in class-specific virtual output queues (VOQ) within sets of VOQs associated with output ports, and providing credits to VOQs according to class-associated guaranteed bandwidths. When a cell is received at a VOQ having credits, a high-priority request for transfer is generated. If a cell is received at a VOQ that does not have any available credits, a low-priority request for transfer is generated. In response to requests, grants are issued to VOQ sets without regard to class, high-priority requests being favored over low-priority requests. When a grant is received for a particular VOQ set, an arbitrator selects a VOQ from the set, giving priority to VOQs having credits over VOQs without credits, and a cell from the selected VOQ is transferred.

  • Patent number: 6661802
Abstract: Congestion management is provided using one or more receive queues organized into a queue list. Each queue is associated with a high water mark and a low water mark. The high water mark indicates a length at which the queue is considered congested. The low water mark is a length at which a congested queue is considered no longer congested. When a queue reaches or exceeds its high water mark, newly arriving frames destined for that queue which are eligible for discard are dropped. Frames arriving not marked as eligible for discard are enqueued at the queue's tail. Queues in the queue list are organized by relative priority. When a single queue above a predetermined priority is determined to be congested, all queues in the queue list are treated as congested. Congestion in lower priority queues results in only the individual congested queue being treated as congested.

  • Patent number: 6661525
Abstract: On a circuit-board intended for constant-wire-length (CWL) bonding, one or more special “test” pairs of bonding pads are provided along with, in each case, a series of markings adjacent the pads. In use, the board is populated with CWL bonds (this includes the normal circuit-related RF bond-pads as well as the test bond-pads) and the test bonds are distorted so that the bond-wires in question lie aligned against the markings. The alignment position relative to the markings indicates whether the bond-wires for the whole board are of correct or incorrect length. Measurement may be either absolute, in which case the markings are associated with a scale indication, or relative, in which case one of the markings will usually be visibly distinguished from the rest in some way. Depending on the length determination, the bond-forming device (e.g.

  • Patent number: 6661634
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for filtering electrical power to and from an electrical appliance to reduce or eliminate electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). In one embodiment, an electrical outlet strip apparatus is provided for interconnection between an AC power source and an electrical appliance that provides transient voltage surge suppression for the appliance while substantially reducing or eliminating EMI from the AC power source from reaching the appliance. Additionally, the apparatus reduces or eliminates EMI produced by the appliance from propagating into the AC power system. The apparatus and method utilize a multistage EMI filter to filter the electrical power. In particular, the electrical power is filtered in a broadband range associated with digital subscriber line (DSL) systems to provide for improved DSL system performance.

  • Patent number: 6660198
Abstract: A process for making inner and outer ducts for a simple but effective plastic heat exchanger by a simple blow molding or thermoforming technique. Seals are formed by providing initially closed inner ducts which are stacked on one another and the end portions of the inner ducts are placed in a mold. A castable adhesive sealant is placed in the mold and around the stacked inner ducts. After curing, the mold and the stacked inner ducts are separated and a portion of the stack and a portion of the seal material are cut and removed. Thereafter, the outer duct is positioned about the stacked inner ducts so that two different flow paths are formed. Instead of molding the seal, a preformed seal may be press fitted to the stack of inner ducts.
