    Abstract: A collector for a linear beam has a segmented ceramic collector core that permits sustained operation at high temperatures and power densities. The collector provides efficient heat transfer from the while reducing stresses on collector components caused by thermal cycling and comprises a heat sink having a cavity providing interior vacuum walls for the collector a segmented ceramic insulator disposed inside the cavity, and an electrode disposed inside and against the insulator. The insulator comprises sectors separated from one another by gaps, and may be notched in its outer surface for high-voltage stand-off from the sink. The electrode is preferably not brazed/soldered to the insulator. A stage of the electrode may be probeless and comprise a depression. A molybdenum-fabricated heat sink and stage assembly utilizes an insulator constructed from beryllium oxide, aluminum nitride, or alumina; alternatively, a copper assembly, uses an aluminum nitride insulator.

    Abstract: A semiconductor device which receives and transmits data at high speed is tested at operational speed at wafer sort. A probe card includes a high-speed interconnect that couples probe output bonding pads to probe input bonding pads. The high-speed interconnect connects a respective output of a transmitter in the die to a respective input of a receiver in the die while the probe card is connected to the die. A built in self test circuit in the die generates test patterns and compares them for accuracy. The test patterns are routed on the high-speed interconnect from the output of the transmitter to the input of the receiver allowing the data path through the receiver and transmitter in the die to be tested at operational speed before the die is assembled into a package.

    Abstract: A method of evaluating free-space optical propagation characteristics includes emitting a plurality of laser beams from a corresponding plurality of laser sources, receiving laser beams at different target points, and measuring the time-based spatial fluctuations between the laser beams thus received. The respective distances from the laser sources to each target point are used to normalize the time-based spatial fluctuations. The difference between the normalized spatial positions of the laser beams at the target points is derived and used to obtain the frequency spectrum of time-based fluctuations of the spatial positions.

Additionally, a number of additional ground planes, each patterned out of its own selected conductive layer to minimize an induced eddy current therein thus improving Q (quality factor) under high frequency operation, are employed with either a linear or a rotational offset amongst them to effect a corresponding amount of adjustment of an inductance value of the inductive component. A number of specific design cases are presented with their respective inductance and RF performance parameters.
