Patent number: 6622258Abstract: A method for reconfiguring a ring of nodes connected by a working fiber and a protection fiber upon disruption of the signal in either the working fiber or the protection fiber includes signaling the other nodes. Each node determines whether it is a node adjacent to the disruption. Those nodes that are not adjacent to the disruption undergo no change in their operation. A receiving node adjacent to the disruption forms a bridge isolating the disruption and sends an acknowledgement signal back to a signaling node. Upon receipt of the acknowledgement signal, the signaling node also forms a bridge. This results in the isolation of that portion of the ring having a disruption and the formation of a new ring.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2000Date of Patent: September 16, 2003Assignee: Appian Communications, Inc.Inventors: Charles Lee, Ray Paradiso, Jonathan Morgan

Publication number: 20030170060Abstract: The present invention provides a plurality of destination screens having a plurality of pages, in which a plurality of destination selection keys are displayed. The destination screens are displayed in layers, each screen having a tag to select a desired destination screen. When a specific tag is selected, a page of the corresponding destination screen with a registered destination selection key is displayed. When page scroll key are pressed, the registered destinations can be searched as each page of the destination screens is scrolled in the ascending/descending order. When no more pages can be scrolled in one destination screen, another destination screen is displayed, instead of terminating the operation. Therefore, it is not necessary to perform a separate operation to switch to another screen, when no more pages can be scrolled by pressing a page scroll key. Accordingly, it is possible to reduce the operator's burden to find a desired destination, thereby improving the convenience of the operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2002Publication date: September 11, 2003Applicant: Matsushita Graphic Communication Systems Inc.Inventors: Hidemi Nakadaira, Hidenobu Kanda

Publication number: 20030169693Abstract: A communications network connected to a plurality of communications lines and method of managing connections to the network. The presence of an interface connection to a communications line is detected and initialized for signaling. First, the interface connection is initialized for a first signaling protocol, e.g., CCS. If initialization is successful, the connection uses that first signaling protocol. If not, the interface connection is initialized using a second signaling protocol, e.g., CAS. If initialization to the second protocol is successful, the connection uses that second signaling protocol. Otherwise an error message is returned.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2002Publication date: September 11, 2003Applicant: Siemens Information and Communication Network, Inc.Inventors: Bertram Geck, Francisco Olympio Marcon da Rocha, Robinson Osmar Lima, Enoch Ragin, Luiz Cesar Zaniolo

Patent number: 6617936Abstract: An oscillating signal in an oscillator is caused to phase shift toward the phase of an input signal coupled to the oscillating signal. The resonant frequency of the oscillator is about equal to an integer multiple of the frequency of the input signal. The input signal may be generated in a pulse generator to have an input pulse duration less than or equal to that of the oscillating signal. The oscillator circuit may be used as a filter to filter pulse width variations or to filter jitter from a reference clock. The oscillator circuit may also serve as a buffer by amplifying the input signal. Phase interpolation can be obtained by coupling at least one input signal with at least one oscillating signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2001Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Velio Communications, Inc.Inventors: William J. Patent number: 6617810Abstract: A high-current, high-gradient, high-efficiency, multi-stage cavity cyclotron resonance accelerator (MCCRA) provides energy gains of over 50 MeV/stage, at an acceleration gradient that exceeds 20 MeV/m, in room temperature cavities. The multi-stage cavity cyclotron resonance accelerator includes a charged particle source, a plurality of end-to-end rotating mode room-temperature cavities, and a solenoid coil. The solenoid coil encompasses the cavities and provides a substantially uniform magnetic field that threads through the cavities. Specifically, the MCCRA is provided with a constant magnetic field sufficient to produce a cyclotron frequency a little higher than the RF of the accelerating electric field. A plurality of input feeds, each of which respectively coupled to a cavity, are also provided. According to an embodiment of the invention, the beam from the first cavity passes through a cutoff drift tube and is accelerated further with a cavity supporting a still lower radio-frequency electric field.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: L-3 Communications CorporationInventor: Robert Spencer Symons

Patent number: 6618040Abstract: A pen-based tablet computer system that locates objects in a collection of stored images by using partial tracing of a graphical data object. The system uses data generated from the partial tracing of the graphical object to control a search of the input data file for the most likely graphical object which is a match. When the most likely match is located, the input data page containing the matched image is determined. The system then may determine the page of form data that applies to the input data page that contains the graphical object and the correct input data page and form data page are simultaneously displayed on the computer display screen. The graphical object may be an image, text data, a line drawing, etc.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2000Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Targus Communications Corp.Inventors: Shane D. Patent number: 6616254Abstract: A transmitter apparatus and method for use in a spread spectrum data communications system that utilizes the Differential Code Shift Keying (DCSK) or non-differential Code Shift Keying (CSK) modulation technique. The transmitter transmits data in the form of packets to the receiver. Each packet is consists of a header, one or more data symbols followed by a CRC checksum. The preamble comprises a sequence of one or more zero rotated symbols and one or more predetermined non-zero rotated symbols. In one embodiment, a shift index is calculated based on the input data. The shift index is used to form the address in a PN sample ROM. The PN sequence is read out using a counter of length modulo the PN sequence length. Samples of the PN sequence are read out and input to a Manchester encoder whose output is amplified and filtered to obtain a particular spectrum shape. In a second embodiment, the shift index is loaded into a counter and used as a starting address to address the PN sample ROM.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1999Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Itran Communications Ltd.Inventors: Dan Raphaeli, Avner Matmor

Patent number: 6618471Abstract: A method and system for measuring the usage of advanced intelligent network (AIN) resources includes providing a call processing record (CPR) logic diagram for a service control point (SCP) in an AIN to follow for providing an AIN service for a call. The CPR logic diagram includes separate paths having functions to be performed by the SCP during the call. The processing times required by the SCP for performing the functions associated with the paths of the CPR logic diagram is then estimated. The estimated processing times are then associated with respective paths of the CPR logic diagram. The SCP is then monitored to determine which path the SCP follows during the call. The actual processing time expended by the SCP during the call is then determined as a function of the path followed by the SCP for the call.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1998Date of Patent: September 9, 2003Assignee: Qwest Communications International Inc.Inventors: Robert B.
