Abstract: Fault tolerant techniques to update a distributed database in a switched-fabric network are described. A commit master switch initiates an update operation using a four-phase process that provides for the automatic fail-over to a second (or more) switches if the commit master should not complete the update operation. In response to a lost commit master switch, one or more switches may assume the role of the commit master to either abort or complete the update operation.

Abstract: Communications method including the procedures of modulating a second generation carrier signal, with a first generation Baseband bandwidth signal, when transmitting to first generation devices, and, modulating the second generation carrier signal, with a second generation Baseband bandwidth signal, when transmitting to second generation devices, wherein the frequency of the second generation carrier signal, is an integer multiple of the first generation Baseband bandwidths, away from a first generation carrier signal frequency.
Abstract: An ESD protection circuit uses an inductor to create an electromagnetic resonance in conjunction with the load capacitance of a conventional ESD device. By properly tuning the resonance of this combination, the protective properties of the ESD device can be maintained while minimizing its capacitive load on the main circuit. The inductor can be interposed in various series configurations with the ESD device between the main circuit and a voltage rail; alternatively, the inductor can be connected in various configurations in parallel with the ESD device. The inductor may be implemented as an on-chip inductor using conventional IC fabrication technologies, or may be implemented using IC chip bonding wires as inductors.

A first base station subsystem is connected to the wireless device for transferring location information to and from the wireless device. A network subsystem is connected to the first base station subsystem and to a location computation entity for transferring location information between the first base station subsystem and the location computation entity. A second base station subsystem is connected to a location measurement entity and to the location computation entity for transferring location information between the location measurement entity and the location computation entity. The location computation entity generates and sends location information to the wireless device and/or location measurement entity and processes location information received from the wireless device and/or location measurement entity to obtain the geographic location of the wireless device.

Abstract: A method of constructing a record utilizing information contained in an information stream sent from a detection device that monitors a transaction processing system, to a reporting device, commences with the detection of an expiration of a predetermined time interval with respect to the detection device. A time delimiter is then inserted into the information stream propagated from the detection device to the reporting device. The time delimiter indicates the expiration of predetermined time interval with respect to the detection device. Information derived from the instruction stream is assimilated into a record at the reporting entity. Time delimiters in the instruction stream are utilized to measure, at the reporting device, the expiration of the predetermined time interval at the detection device.

Abstract: Is disclosed a method and a relative circuit adapted to transfer to a microwave transmission carrier the angle modulation of an intermediate frequency signal. The conveyor of angle modulation is a PLL (100) which VCO (2) generates the microwave carrier (RF) modulated like the intermediate frequency signal (S4), taken as reference for the phase comparator (10) of the PLL. The comparator receives moreover a copy of the signal generated by the VCO, converted at intermediate frequency (S3) by means of a subharmonic mixer, and it generates an error signal (S5). The PLL comprises further a regulator circuit (101) which maintains automatically constant relation K between the locked band of the PLL and the bandwidth of the reference signal (S4), the lanter being a signal susceptible of band width variations, generally due to the choice of different transmission speeds.

Abstract: A system and method for processing a call comprises a signaling interface to receive and process call signaling and transmit call signaling between a call processor and communication devices such as a local number portability service control point. A call processor processes call signaling to determine call connections. A local service control point (local SCP) provides information such as, for example, for N00 routing and virtual private network (VPN) routing. The local SCP resides with the call processor on a single platform so that they are connected, for example, through a backplane or bus architecture. In this configuration, transaction capabilities application part messages do not have to be transmitted between the signaling interface and the local SCP. Instead, direct communication can occur through control messages transmitted between the local SCP and the call processor thereby realizing increased speed and processing efficiency.
Abstract: A method for setting a number plan and providing a service for an advanced intelligent network (AIN), includes the steps of searching a first trigger which corresponds to a detected AIN call, judging whether the first trigger is a second trigger for a subscriber group, searching subscriber group information of the first trigger when the first trigger is the second rigger and detecting an identification number of a PNP(Private Numbering Plan), searching a PNP corresponding to the identification number from a NTT(Number Translation Table) of the first trigger, and gathering an additional number based on number gathering information of the searched PNP and performing a number translation based on corresponding PNP, thereby setting a certain number plan by the subscriber group and providing a subscriber-based advanced intelligent network service.
Abstract: An integrated-optical device including a substrate having waveguide and a plurality of electrodes to receive electrical signals for controlling the light transmission through the pathways. The waveguide pathways are in an interaction zone of an electro-optically active waveguide material whose refractive index changes in response to electrical signals applied to the electrodes, and also in an access zone providing optical access to the interaction zone. The active waveguide material in the interaction zone is preferably a different material from the waveguide material in the access zone, enabling improved performance and/or simpler fabrication in a number of described respects.
Abstract: A document retrieval and navigational system and method based on a user's role, scenario, and context in a given context or scenario. A database is provided which has a plurality of documents which are stored therein. Each document having metadata defined by at least one predetermined tag and corresponding value which is assigned thereto. Selection criteria is received and corresponds to a user scenario. The received selection criteria is compared to the metadata of each document to determine if there is a document match. In the case that a document match is found, a retrieval report is generated for presentation on the output device which includes each document match.

Abstract: A system and method for enhancing the performance of an equalizer in a modem. Multiple techniques are disclosed which improve the modem performance. A first technique uses stored parameters for each burst from each remote site to demodulate a received data stream. A second technique compensates for the gain droop caused by storing parameters across each burst. A third technique minimizes errors caused by adapting the equalizer coefficients for each data burst by analyzing the SN ratio and error rate of the received burst. A fourth technique improves the convergence of the equalizer by using a two-part preamble, whereby both parts are transmitted using different modulation techniques. A fifth technique is provided which performs a soft reset of the modem without performing a complete reset of the modem. A sixth technique determines a modem adaptation factor based on the expected modulation type of an incoming burst transmission.

Abstract: The VCO of a synthesizer operates with a coarse tuning and a fine tuning. During the coarse tuning, a binary search method is used to match the VCO frequency to one of a finite number of discrete reference frequencies. The coarse tuning operates without frequency division and phase comparison in a closed feedback loop, thereby speeding up the settling time and increasing the lock-in range. The fine tuning operates as a conventional analog PLL.
