Abstract: Thermal management devices and systems, and corresponding methods of cooling computing devices are described herein. Such devices, systems, and methods may be advantageous in providing optimal thermal management for the computing device and/or minimizing acoustics in the computing device for a plurality of rotational fan speeds. Additionally, optimal thermal management may provide an increase in system performance and an increase in computing device life expectancy. In one example, a thermal management system includes a fan configured to move air through an outlet opening of the fan and at least one airflow guide positioned adjacent to the outlet opening. The at least one airflow guide is configured to direct movement of the air from the outlet opening to dissipate heat within an electronic device, and the at least one airflow guide is configured to pivot about an axis to move between a first position to a second position based on a change in a rotational speed of the fan.

Abstract: An example fighting device has a luminaire and a driver circuit. The luminaire includes a variable electrokinetic optic that includes an electrokinetic fluid between a transparent substrate and a diffuser. The electrokinetic fluid includes a carrier fluid mixed with charged particles. The variable electrokinetic optic further includes a transparent substrate electrode and a diffuser electrode configured to generate an electric field in the electrokinetic fluid in response to a control voltage applied across the transparent substrate electrode and the transparent diffuser electrode. The electric field attracts the charged particles to adjust an effective birefringence of the variable electrokinetic optic. Increasing the effective birefringence increases an output beam angle of the emitted illumination lighting relative to an input beam angle. The driver circuit selectively controls the applied control voltage.
Abstract: An airway has a ventilation tube with a mask attached to its distal end. The mask has a base and a sealing ring surrounding the base. The sealing ring has an exterior side surface extending around the base, an upper surface extending from the exterior side surface toward a center of the base, and an inner surface extending from the upper surface toward the center of the base. The exterior surface, upper surface, and inner surface define an inner volume within the sealing ring. The sealing ring and base define a cavity in the mask. An evacuation tube is attached to a proximal end of the mask and extends through the inner volume of the sealing ring to a distal end of the mask where it forms an opening on the mask distal end on the sealing ring exterior side surface.
Abstract: In one technique, one or more search criteria associated with a first user are determined. Based on the one or more search criteria, a search of a first set of users is performed. As a result of the search, a subset of the first set of users is identified. A second set of users that have responded to messages from users in the subset is identified. Instances of attribute values of an attribute of the second set of users are aggregated to generate aggregated values, each of which corresponds to a different attribute value of the attribute values. Based on one or more of the aggregated values, content that is related to one or more attribute values that correspond to the one or more aggregated values is determined and presented to the first user.

Abstract: An apparatus includes an input coupler configured to receive light excited by a light source. A near-field transducer (NFT) is positioned at a media-facing surface of a write head. A layered waveguide is positioned between the input coupler and the NFT and configured to receive the light output from the input coupler in a transverse electric (TE) mode and deliver the light to the NFT in a transverse magnetic (TM) mode. The layered waveguide comprises a first layer extending along a light-propagation direction. The first layer is configured to receive light from the input coupler. The first layer tapers from a first cross track width to a second cross track width where the second cross track width is narrower than the first cross track width. The layered waveguide includes a second layer that is disposed on the first layer. The second layer has a cross sectional area in a plane perpendicular to the light propagation direction that increases along the light propagation direction.

Abstract: A three-dimensional semiconductor device includes bit lines formed in the lower-interconnect-level dielectric material layers located over a substrate, bit-line-connection via structures contacting a respective one of the bit lines, pillar-shaped drain regions contacting a respective one of the bit-line-connection via structures, an alternating stack of insulating layers and electrically conductive layers located over the pillar-shaped drain regions, and memory stack structures extending through the alternating stack. A source layer overlies the alternating stack, and is electrically connected to an upper end of each vertical semiconductor channel within a subset of the vertical semiconductor channels. Vertical bit line interconnections structures extending through the levels of the alternating stack may be eliminated by forming the bit lines underneath the alternating stack, and the footprint of the layout of the three-dimensional memory device may be reduced.

Abstract: A battery system includes a lithium ion battery that couples to an electrical system. The battery system also includes a battery management system that electrically couples to the lithium ion battery and controls one or more recharge parameters of the lithium ion battery. Additionally, the battery management system monitors one or more parameters of the lithium ion battery. Further, the battery management system controls the recharge parameters of the lithium ion battery based on at least one lithium plating model and the monitored parameters. Furthermore, the at least one lithium plating model indicates a relationship between the one or more parameters of the lithium ion battery and a likelihood of lithium plating occurring in the lithium ion battery.

Abstract: Implementations of the present disclosure relate to a method and apparatus for handling an error for a drive. The logic space of the drive is divided into a plurality of extents. The method comprises determining a type of errors in response to the errors detected in I/O operations for the drive. The method further comprises determining a drive extent of the plurality of extents of the drive that causes the errors in response to determining that the type of the errors is a soft medium error or a data error, the soft medium error being an error that can be repaired by re-mapping of a failed extent and the data error being an error that is caused by damage of data on the drive. Furthermore, the errors can be handled only with respect to the drive extent that causes the errors.
